If homestuck has taught me one thing, it's to get to the fucking point of your comic.

I'm currently making a comic I'd like to make into a series, but pacing it pretty much like very short comic issues. And honestly? That kind of brevity is really important and helps you tell your story more efficiently, and part of becoming a better storyteller is to tell all the stuff you want to tell in any amount of time given, just figuring out what the best method of going about it is.

It leaves me thinking I might be rushing too fast in parts where the audience might be able to have some time spent enjoying the characters or atmosphere, but when you remember how utterly sick of making the comic hussie got near the end, it's a good idea to keep things going so you can take a bow gracefully

I kind of feel it started to go wrong when the characters in the comic went from being platforms for jokes and plot progression.

So basically, when Hivebent started to introduce more character driven plots and drama, that's where Andrew started to lose his reigns on the comic. It doesn't help that the comic became popular BECAUSE of this, so Hussie started to incorporate it more into the comic with act 5.2 and 6.
But Hussie's lack of skill in character writing/development became incredibly apparent down the line when not only did he use a retcon to completely get out of most of the cast needing character development, but he also refused to tie most characters at the actual end of the comic. Leaving all the characters the fans loved so much half-assed in the end

I've been debating with myself whether or not to host a panel at the upcoming anime convention about the more theoretical aspects of Homestuck and the rise and fall of MSPA as a whole. I feel like they don't care about the comic itself as much as the fan culture surrounding it, which hasn't really changed since like 2013. Yeah they'd get mad if I started ranting about tumblr being the root of all evil, but I think I can control my autism enough for it.

Like, I talk about the burgeoning of internet media in the mid-00s due to availability of Flash places like Newgrounds, and influences from text adventures, along with concurrent projects like Rubyquest. Then Hussie's earlier projects from TSO to Problem Sleuth. Then the formula's application to Homestuck and the real influences that went into plot devices and game mechanics.

I feel that I've finally moved on from Homestuck. I just hope this game fails miserably, putting the last nail in Homestuck's coffin. I don't even feel pity for Hussie anymore.

I don't even know if I'll play the game. I probably will, but I'm not really interested in the game. Not even in the more than likely REFERENCES to Homestuck's lore and backstory. We'll see more of Doc Scratch, big fucking whoop. During the comic, she definitely changed from 'our desperate attempts to stop him will end up being hopeless; and I just want to see everything get destroyed already like its supposed to by lord english, now im just gunna fuck around dream bubbles and wait until we all die' to 'well even if we do get fucked i still wanna try to stop him'.
