I liked the ending. Flaws aside, it got rid of Ashi, got Jack back to his home, and gave us assurance that Aku has been eliminated in both timelines.

It's like in Chrono Trigger, where Robo goes back to the future at the end of the game. He's not gonna stop existing forever. He's simply going back to a future worth having.

It's just a glaring flaw with time travel stories. I mean, look at the image. The top images black line represents the timeline of the world, with Jack's trip to and from the future. The bottom figure erases the rest of that black line past his arrival and diverges into the timeline that I've marked as blue because Aku isn't around anymore, so the entire timeline past Jack's departure was undone due to Aku no longer being there to rule over it, leaving Jack's future trip fate in question.

Besides, it can only be called a closed loop if the cause/reason of departure and return can be the same thing in perpetuity. The fact that Ashi is the cause of Jack's return and she ceases to exist means that the loop isn't truly closed.

I would have preffered this ending. It would have been a "happy" ending, for Jack, but he would've been crushed that he couldn't go back, that so many have to suffer. But the beauty would've been in creating something new and beautiful with the strange world Aku made.

You could've had the ending we got work too, if you rememebr the first pepisodes where he fights Aku, it's long, it vicious, and it tests all of Jack's skills. He wins, but it was by the skin of his teeth. This fight was not at all like that, and it completely wasted Aishi's potential. If they didn't want it to be a waste, they could've done the double Aku thing someone else suggested, or the fight in the future goes sour, and so in a last ditch attempt to save Jack and the future, SHE flings him into the past.

The ending as is doesn't really work because she fades out when it's most convenient. So it loses a lot of the emotional impact.
