I still go with the idea of a split timeline theory. Ashi still exists, however she cannot exist in Jack's time. So in that respect, everyone who fought against Aku in the ending is probably all dead, and he's laughing it up that he's not dead, meaning he must've killed the Samurai by that logic.

It would've been nice to have seen Birth of Evil 2.0, it could've been called something like, The Death of Evil. Something like that. Jack could've piloted the robot and Neon-Genesis'd Aku too.

I like to think of it as a direct continuation of the first fight.

The pit isn't Aku's essence, it's just another part of the same entity of ultimate evil.

The thing about Aku's death isn't that it's "wrong"; it's just that it played it safe. It wasn't exciting or interesting, it's exactly what everyone expected. This wouldn't inherently be a bad thing if we got a proper showdown with future Aku, but we didn't. All we got was a bunch of regular people who obviously wouldn't hurt him attacking him, Jack saving Ashu with literally the fucking power of love, "oh hey you can use Aku's powers", and Jack going back to kill Aku. Nothing held any weight, and it felt like, once again, everything was compressed to make room for Ashi's wedding and her death, even though her death held no weight because she's a bland character with no depth. We don't get to see how Jack's parents feel, the great warriors, or the future without Aku, just MUH LADYBUG SYMBOLISM.
Anyone who thinks this is a satisfactory ending, let alone a GOOD one, is an absolute moron.

Stabbing the ground let Aku bleed out into the earth in the ruins of the castle and eventually resurrect, stabbing him into the Pit of Hate, which the sword is made to destroy, just killed both. He wiped out both the last shred of Aku's essence and the point of origin that he used for Resurrection. Jack can obviously force Aku out of the sword, he did it twice, so where the fuck was he going to go when the Pit of Hate was just as vulnerable to the blade? Nowhere, which is why the last scrap of him burned away and the Pit of Hate exploded.

Looking back on it all, making Aku into a likeable, comedic character was a mistake from the start.

Don't get me wrong, I love Aku.
But it shows that Genndy and the crew never had any intention to end Samurai Jack at all.
There's NO way you would spend that much time making your big bad villain into a likeable, funny character if you really wanted the audience to want him dead.

To me, that's part of why the conclusion feels weak.
Because they're not killing someone I've been taught to resent, they're killing someone who's been the star of some of the best episodes.
They're killing a character who is undoubtedly the best source of comedy in the entire series.

Even the scenes where he does evil shit are played for laughs pretty often, even killing the Scotsman.
It's just poor foresight, and it means that they really didn't have ANY creative ideas on how to end the series without Jack just straight up murdering Aku.
Because let's be honest, an ending where he traps a weakened, tiny Aku in a little bottle or some shit and we get to keep hearing Aku's jokes would have been great, but they just didn't have the time or the creativity to do something like that I guess.

Aku fought Jack one-on-one in those episodes (granted with combat modifiers, taking Jack's sword in one and using Chronos' armor in the other), but there still have been times when Aku has dropped the cowardly pretense and just gone straight for the fucking kill.

The way I see it, she had Aku as part of her. She was essentially half Aku and could survive independent of him just as he survives independent of the darkness that was destroyed by the gods. The problem is that Aku is less menacing and interesting than the cult that made the daughters. The season completely shifted in tone by the end, when it should have shown Aku at his most brutal and vicious. He can still be a comical doofus, he should just be able to jump into ripping people limb from limb while laughing maniacally.

Aku is absorbed by the sword, you see his eyes blink, the sword is thrust into the ground, and Aku seeps into the ground. The only difference was the structure appearing in the Dad's case and the stock explosions in Jack's case.

It does because Jack is selfless. And not aware of time paradoxes. Far as he was likely concerned, he would have returned, those people would apparently die without him, and he'd live in an Aku-free world believing they died to help him. Jack would hate feeling that.

Jack absorbs Aku into the sword and instead of stabbing it into the ground, he forces Aku out of the sword and is going to run him through. That would have been the "final blow", maybe even killing Aku, but the way Jack defeats Aku after returning from the future is the same way his Dad did, which means Aku is most likely sealed.
