Bruce became a police officer, then Gotham's new police commissioner. Selina became a socialite and birthed a daughter. But... eventually Selina's past caught up with her and an old henchman started to blackmail to pull one job for him which ended in her getting killed. Bruce got depressed as fuck and their daughter became a vigilante known as Huntress with a thirst for revenge. Huntress from that point forward, specially after learning about her parent's past, always walked a small line between being a hero like her dad was or giving in to her rage and becoming a criminal like her mother. She also started to despise her mother.

Yes, Dini was the one that paired them the most following Hush, but if you look what Bruce is saying there and their following interactions Bruce is being much more subdued. Sure, he's saying that he'll always love her, but he also said he doesn't know if he could ever offer her more than they already has which is basically friendship and sex.

I find that sort of dynamic much more appealing than what King's doing where Bruce feels that Selina's the only one that gets him and that he needs her recognition and acceptance to feel at ease and he loves her with all his being.
