I mean, it happens, if you've got a good enough drive and the talent, plus all the hours of hard work, then yeah it happens.

The thing is, what happens when you've done all that, but no studio wants your shitty idea anyways? What's the message there? You tried, you did the work, you just had a really shitty idea.

What we're missing here is the part where people give criticism, and she improves through that, instead we're lead to believe that she had this one and done idea that everybody in the whole fucking world loved.

Also fuck Katy Perry.

I became a librarian for the same goddamn reasons. Dad said it wouldn't make enough money, that I should go to the coal mines where they make fifty dollars and hour(Yes, he really fucking believes this, even after I've pointed out that it's not true and that, at most, the fucking foreman makes 30 dollars an hour.). Nevermind the fact that he had to stop doing that because he kept having trouble breathing down there and almost died on two occasions, sitting around helping kids find books isn't a real job.

Now he has stay at home with me because all those years in the mines fucked up his lungs and he can't live by himself. Doesn't matter I actually own my own goddamn house, he still makes comments about how I should've become a miner like him, because 25 bucks an hour isn't good money apparently.

being afraid that I wouldnt be able to make money doing the thing I love caused me to waste years trying to find something I hated but would pay bills. but I realize now Im going to struggle to get by no matter what so I may as well follow my dreams

but I wasted a lot of time and caused myself a lot of heartache because I let people tell me it would either be too hard or wouldnt work out.

Miyazaki also hates the concept of war and anime in general, He fucking loathes giant robot shit, He probably hates rap, and He's always fucking angry. Like, always. I've never not seen an interview with him where he wasn't at least stern for a large portion of it.

The Zen Pencils comics where he appears are like the authors private imagined version of Miyazaki. Some kind of weird fetishized completely different version of him that the creator wishes Miyazaki was like, because it supports his view of the world, but not reality.

Encouragement is not good enough. The road to hell is paved with good intentions and all that. Besides morale, you need skill, either through your background or through effort. You also need a platform from where to launch from, again likely from your background and less likely through effort this time. You also need fine knowledge of the medium and good eye, all effort this time around and encouragement can act against this by inflating your ego and making you impervious to criticism(see : Dobson) .

And even if you have all that, there's still the x factor. Luck, fortune, being able to resonate with audiences in a meaningful profound constant and perhaps more important timely way(thousands of forgotten gems that were ahead of their time, failed to resonate with their audiences and remain to this day as cult classics), being able to find a good enough sponsor who will employ you like a korean animator slave and reap the fat of the profits(and in this fucked up world, that is still GOOD). And then you have to wait till the bitch stars align just right so the reviews of the final product aren't marred by your image, the image of your sponsor or even have their thunder stolen by another competing product or a damn war or a tornado or whathaveyou social sensation flavor of the nanosecond.

Encouragement is not warranty of success, or even of a finished product. See Patreon.

His opinion of what is and isn't art is very broad. (He considers standup art?) I wouldn't be surprised if he considered engineering art, if only to win that specific argument.

Seeing this comic and the major theme of this one next to the Dinomites one, I really have to question how averse to criticism the Zen Pencils guy is? Like, his art isn't honestly that bad, it's okay. There's some stuff about it I don't care for that he could easily improve, but it's not 23 year old autist making Sonic OC art bad. But did he have a really bad experience or something? Did he have a strict art teacher in college or whatever? I'm sincerely curious, because it seems like he lumps all criticism into a pile along side metaphorically murdering people with Kaiju. He must really resent critics.

While we're on the subject of Zen Pencils: This comic has very little to do with the idea behind the Dinomites one, but I still can't tell if this is sarcastic or if it's supposed to be ironic or a joke or if he's totally one million percent serious about it.
It's about a Church of The Beatles that he's imagined that's drawing clear religious meaning out of their work and their ideas or whatever, that he's clearly holding in high regard, and he's set it to a quote that's basically John Lennon saying "Don't worship me or my friends".
(Isn't turning The Beatles into religion what caused the whole Charles Manson thing?)
>>
>>92618433
People are going to try to argue that with you. I don't fucking know why, but some people seem to think that nature is no excuse for diet. Which is retarded as fuck. Apparently, "Human empathy should allow us to rise above nature" is somehow a valid argument these people try to make. Never mind that in nature we are literal predators and that huge protein ingestion is vital to our continued survival and a healthy life. I don't understand how "empathy" is supposed to dissuade me from eating prey. Lots of animals have empathy, but still eat other animals. It's the food chain.

Also, let's not forget, that Vegans and vegetarians often have issues with calcium and protein intake. They argue nuts and mushrooms (which are much closer to animals than plants, by the way) but those aren't actually enough to offset the need for protein in the human body and will ultimately lead to malnourishment unless offset themselves with daily vitamins. Ironically, protein and calcium vitamins are always made from animal parts, so most vegans and vegetarians don't realize it, but they're still eating animals to survive.
>>
>>92614710
Looking at it purely from a health perspective, it's objectively not how the human body is designed to eat. While most people in developed countries do eat an excess of meat and dairy, they're still important parts of the human diet that a vegan diet can't entirely replace. You could limit your meat/dairy intake to milk, seafood, and eggs and get basically all the benefits of veganism without being a vegan.

Ideologically, you do you but honestly it's kind of dishonest for people to talk about veganism as though it helps the animals that are being eaten when it would most likely cause their extinction once they no longer serve a purpose as food.

I think the message is not to worship musicians and to do things for yourself/make your own dream.

Also I think it's a "We're bigger than Jesus!" joke.

So like. Any negative emotion or feeling is evil to this guy? Man how repressed he must be.

Let's not forget that those designs were specifically created to appeal to children for toy sales. Almost all of those are literal toy commercial series and should be treated as though they have the art depth of a thimble.

I was thinking that. That's why I said I couldn't figure out if he meant it as a joke, but I also kind of question if maybe that's giving Zen Pencils too much credit? Also, there's literally nothing negative displayed about the church and the concept of using that quote in the way he does, actually kind of invalidates the point regardless of what he's trying to do.

>"Don't quote me like I'm special, don't regard me as god."
>Okay, I'll just draw a comic about a church that does that.
>I'll add some of the points this person has made that are good to their scriptures.
>I'll make note of the idea that all their points were valid and good.
>The church will literally do nothing wrong and will instead be presented in a completely positive light.
>There will be no real lesson to this comic as nothing will happen.
>And I'm going to add the comment this guy said to it, because he's special and it's a life lesson on par with religion, I sure do love every quote ever made by famous people.
>So inspirational!

Also how Miyazaki hates the mecha genre for exactly this sort of shit.

How far up his ass is the artist's head?
Does he not realize that Miyazaki would downright despise this shit?

The fact that he used a Miyazaki expy as the main character in this is embarrassing.

I liked the version where she goes 'hey what sort of music do you listen to?'. Makes the 'now I have to kill her' face Ronnie's got make a lot more sense.

The old lady gives an actual critique of a performance rather than a non-specific negative comment.

Because there's no fucking way to respond to someone who's essentially a legend of the industry jumping down your throat with a sob story about how your tech demo about AIs doing animation is offensive to his disabled friend. How is an engineer supposed to respond to something so completely out of left field? It's so painfully obvious that miyazaki is getting angry and making up a reason because he thinks this is a step to computers taking over more work that human animators can do.

I don't get why anyone thinks miyazaki is a good or cool person just because he makes good art. Everything I read or see about the person itself makes him look so incredibly dismissive and arrogant, it's fucking astonishing. This and the "gun otaku" spiel being the biggest offenders.

>the "gun otaku" spiel
He has something against guns?
>>
>>92622423
It was in an interview where the interviewer asked him "Aren't you also an otaku too?" and he responded:

>“Otaku? The people I hate most are those gun otaku. Speaking honestly, I think they’re really low level, and out of firearm fans, the pistol nuts are the worst. They’re the ones that have the most immature character traits left over. Ha ha, don’t you agree?”

He doesn't have anything to say about guns themselves in it, but you can probably guess his opinion on them. The fact that he's so dismissive to an entire group of people over a fucking hobby he doesn't like is mindboggling.

Well I remember seeing weaponized shouts in Dune and that was handled ok.
