With Aku defeated, Jack becomes King of the Past. He then goes to The Guardian (who has been guarding the portal for eons). He defeats The Guardian, and this portal has special properties/ powers no other time portal has. He can visit alternate timelines, or bring people back from alternate timelines. He uses it to bring back Ashi.

We always assumed that the Guardian wouldn't let Jack pass because he had yet to defeat Aku and save the future his failure created. What if it's the opposite? That Jack couldn't use the portal because the Guardian only existed to make sure no-one used that time portal in Aku's timeline?
