dude its a fucking image I had for this thread, you know it's people like you who shit themselves the moment anything even slightly reminds them of something they feel is bad that "ruin everything"

Weird how it was my refuge just after grad school. So many good storytimes, and rec images. And the the movie and sjw wars started.
>>92593510
>>92594480
Holy shit.
You're right, I mean obviously the lack of storytimes didn't kill /co/, but damn if that wasn't the start of a sharp decline.
I kind of miss the SFW porn threads.
The reactions the the deep lore in the Bob's Burgers porn were priceless.

The true face of /co/
>>92595825
Talking about /co/ HMMMMMMMMMMM?Seriously though, I know nothing about Linkara beyond dank meemz and that shitty comic he made.
>>92594480
/co/ went to shit loooong before hiro showed up
>>92596101
the decline most obviously started in 2012 when Avengers and TDKR brought in a shitload of normies and /tv/ crossposters that only want to talk about the movies, but the kneecapping of storytiming is what took it from the "faltering but still recoverable" to hospice care.

How far back was the whole "slutfire" controversy?
Because that was when political shit-flinging became the norm here. I don't know if it's necessarily the worst thing to ever happen to /co/, but it definitely did lasting harm to the quality of the board.
>>92596101
What the fuck is Hiro's problem, anyway?
Why make posting even MORE difficult?
We already had the fucking capcha!
>>92596306

>>92596306
Early 2012, which as another anon pointed out was when things generally went to shit.
Previously, 7/10 /co/ posters were, ime, prone to unprovoked decency.
When I first got here "casual" was almost always used ironically. /rs/ was fucking loaded with comics. It was chill.
>>92596385
Yeah, it was Nu52.
>>92596306
We were definitely doing it before then, but yeah, there would have seemed to be a lot more. DC was an easy target. Failed - very badly failed, very heavily hyped - movies, everybody clinging to the Nolan train and then getting *speaks into a cup in a child's voice* The Dark Knight Rises the following year and then Man of Murder the year after.
And the low point for the comics was there too. DC had an OK couple of years prior to the relaunch, then suddenly they've got this huge push except they forgot to advertise it properly or relaunch the whole line so that it didn't have needless callbacks to a dead continuity. And then they sent DiDio out to conventions to plug it and instead of engaging with the audience when he was asked a fairly foreseeable question, he started yelling at Batgirl.
And then the fanboys got in to try and defend him, because they needed something to do before they were all about ethics in gaming journalism. You know your relaunch is fucked when the neckbeards choose it as the hill they will die on in defense of men not having to listen to women.
I felt terrible for DC. Diane Nelson must have thought it was the end of her career. DiDio was way out of his depth and he knew it - he's a backroom drone, not a hype guy. Should never have been out there. Johns was just fucking around taking no notice of anybody with his comics. And in retrospect they were probably already fighting against the move to Burbank that eventually happened. Lot of friends losing jobs there.
Poor dumb bastards. Shitty job, relaunch down the crapper and latched on to by the worst kind of comics fans over an avoidable, accidental incident at a con.
but yeah, around then. We had so many threads about that cosplay chick. Shitty, shitty threads.
>>92596487

>>92598026
>>92598447
Because we're all handsome on the comics side of /co/.
>>92596179
Storytiming is such a pain in the ass now, unless it's for just a single issue. I really wish they'd drop it back down, but I doubt it'd do any good now. Too little, too late.
>>92594437
Literally this. How can this fucking place be so insecure about what reddit does. Is so fucking sad
>>92598725
A solid percentage of 4chan users are assholes. Not everyone, of course, but a solid amount; probably more than half. And because they're assholes, they can't admit that the reason most people in real life won't hand out with them is that they're an asshole, so they have to pin it on something else.
On /co/, you've got a lot of assholes who tell themselves that the reason people don't like them isn't that they're an asshole, but because they like shit like comics that "normies" just don't understand. And that was pretty good cover for a while. But then Marvel blew the doors open and started making billions of dollars, and getting critical acclaim, and somehow turning a talking space raccoon and his tree friend into household names. So the "no one likes me because the things I like" excuse started crumbling.
But again, an asshole can't admit they're an asshole and that sometimes shit is their own fault, so instead the narrative becomes how Marvel movies are wrong somehow and "made for normies" and that true comic fans would't like them.
>>92594389
I always like it when a depraved post has Master Shake as its image.

/co/ was only good for a few months of its existence. It was shortly over run by fetish losers who wanted to talk about farts and lolis.
>>92599113
liking the movies =/= liking the comics
comics are still very much a niche hobby/medium, despite the success in other mediums of properties originating in comics, and ESPECIALLY comics that don't have Marvel or DC in the corner
>>92594242
not bad actually
>>92599437
Model building is a niche hobby, but no one has ever blamed the fact that they spend their downtime building a 1:18 scale model of a 1948 Studebaker as the reason they can't make friends.

Homer joins the Navy, accidentally guides the sub into Russian waters and America debates if he's a communist traitor. This scene comes after the news is aired. The Russian representative at the UN offers to pardon those on board and refers to himself as the "Soviet Union". The US representative points out that they broke up, but in response the Russian representative presses a button on his desk, flipping the "Russia" to "Soviet Union" and says "Yes, that's what we wanted you to think!". Cue Russia and the rest of the world undergoing a transformation back to before 1991.

Now it's a nest of political shitposters who has nothing better to do than aggressively complain about things and belittle anyone with the temerity to try and enjoy comics or cartoons.
