I really love the feel of Dixon's run. He did the atmosphere of New York City so well.

That's one thing I miss about old Marvel. They used to get New York just right and made it seem like a legitimately scary place that these superheroes fit right into. Frank Miller's Daredevil and Bill Sienkiewicz's Moon Knight were the perfect examples of that. Now half the company's from Portland.

So are The Elite, Mr. Payback, and The Holy. That list isn't perfect. There's a surprising lack of pure vigilantes in Marvel or just in modern comics in general. Honestly, if there was a Justice League of Vigilantes then best way to fill the roster would be to use Golden Age characters, because back then a lot of superheroes were gun toting crime fighters that killed criminals, like The Blonde Phantom or Miss Masque or The Woman in Red.

Or take it to the actual middle east. The whole shitshow with Syria, Kurdistan and everyone else. The firing squad that used rocket launchers or any of the other isis meme videos.

ISIS analog shows up in Suicide Squad as a breakaway from the League of Assassins.

There was a scene with African Muslim rapists in Injustice, and fucking Champions of all comics had an issue where Islamofascists were the enemy.

There are probably more I can't think of now or just haven't read.

You're right that comics focus a lot more on white racists and Nazis than they do on Islamofacists, but they're not non-existant.

Underplayed is exactly what I mean. Normally, comics need action, so they take real life war or drama or conflict and crank up the action, and crank up the bigotry for whatever kind of moral conflict they need. Here they consistently underplay both of them.

When they DO use them, it's almost always in the same way, as was popular been since 1979, as generic terrorist baddies that get steamrolled and are never heard from again, like say, their use in the Iron Man movies.
