Roman Regins is a wrestler that WWE is trying to push as their big star to replace John Cena, except he mostly gets booed.

Fans understood the rules as "if we boo a guy all the time, WWE will stop pushing him, or turn him heel."

Women and children liked Cena, men hated him, but WWE kept pushing him because he was their top merchandise seller, kids loved him, and they'd hand-picked him to be their top guy.

Now they've spent the last several years trying to position Reigns as the replacement, the fans are rejecting him, and unlike Cena, he doesn't have huge support amongst children, he doesn't have huge merchandise sales. There's nothing stopping WWE from backing down except their own stubbornness and unwillingness to concede failure.

This is why the comparison to Carol Danvers exists, as she is a character Marvel have been trying to push to the top for years now, it isn't working, and they refuse to give up. With a movie happening, it's only going to get worse.
