Oban? It's great. A bit different in tone to Code Lyoko, the anime influences are more apparent in the plot whereas in CL it's really just the design, but it's a lot of fun and has interesting characters and world.

The creator of Oban, Savin Yeatman-Eiffel (I see people on /co/ often mistakenly credit Thomas Romain who created CL with creating both - he did work on the show but he wasn't the creator) is actually trying to get a continuation off the ground. Pic related.

So what were your favorite episodes?

Too many to really count, but I can't help but love Ghost Channel. It's weird that XANA didn't try a similar scheme of putting the kids into more fake worlds to fuck with them beyond that one instance in the final season with Aelita and her childhood home. Could have been a great way to drive them insane if it had cooked up something to make them lose their grip on reality.

On that topic, what do you think was a wasted opportunity for an episode, story, or even character arc?

To me, I think Aelita's character and backstory could have been explored even further, especially after what we learned midway through the series. We don't really know what happened to her mother other than she was taken by government agents, which would make for a great character arc if you ask me. I could imagine the conflict being like The Southern Raiders in Avatar, she could be bent on revenge for finding the people responsible for kidnapping her mom and act very out of character in the process. We also have this issue with her living under a false identity, which the show did explore, but didn't take advantage of it. Seriously, this can make for a great conflict and stir some good drama and yet is ruined by XANA attacks. Also, considering that her father died right in front of her in the second to last episode, how would she cope with that? She could easily sink into a deep depression after witnessing her dad die RIGHT IN FRONT OF HER VERY EYES. And what about her relationship with Jeremie? We know that they're a more stable couple than Ulrich and Yumi, and yet there's the situation with Jeremie ALWAYS doing some kind of work on Lyoko as opposed to spending time with her. Also, could they elaborate on Project Carthage a bit, how did the situation combined with Lyoko's creation affect her and her father's relationship? Does it have something to do with her mom's kidnapping? What even is Project Carthage, there's gotta be more to it other than simply disrupt communications, it's because of that Project is why Lyoko exists in the first place.

Seriously, they have all this crap on their disposal and never take advantage of it, what the hell? And I'm sure that I left out something cause there's gotta be more than where that came from.

Apparently while Aelita learns more about her father's past, she finds out that some dude named Mark Hollenback (changed his name to Hannibal Mago) is responsible for kidnapping her, taking her across Europe, and made her lose her memory, and is forced to work with him in a MAFIA-LIKE TERRORIST GROUP!

This could easily end up something like Kill Bill with her getting revenge on him for basically ruining her chance of living a normal life, but they don't ever interact with each other, not even making eye contact with one another. Jeremie is the only person who meets the two in one place, since he gets kidnapped by Mago's troops. I can guarantee that if that was Aelita there instead, it could be a VERY different story.

If I could do a remake story, I'd probably adapt parts of what Evolution had, albeit into the course of events from the original story as opposed to the footnotes version that Evolution pretty much felt like. That whole thing felt like "Oh shit, we never wrapped up this plot thread. And while we're at it, let's bring back XANA because fuck being original!"

Jim could have had to make judgment calls on who to let run off during attacks, maybe having to let them off one at a time or in pairs if he could to avoid drawing suspicion to them and himself. Likewise, they could have had him refrain from going to Lyoko outside of really dire moments, instead choosing to stay at the academy to ensure the children were safe. It could even have led to him eventually deciding to leave the gang and commit full time to defending the school, possibly having his memory wiped so he wouldn't bring harm to the gang if something were to happen to him.

Hard to say. 4kids were the only really prominent dub group that made heavy location changes. Even Saban usually kept Digimon in Japan, but just altered things like names of locations to easier to remember. Funimation I think only ever changed one show's locations, and that was with Detective Conan. Though I think it was said the studio behind the show, TMS, apparently wanted the show's location changed for the dub. And we all know how much of a disaster that was.
