You need to know the difference between being a Sony Pictures CEO, and being a Sony Shareholder.

A Sony Shareholder would be happy if Spiderman films make money, no matter who made the film.

A Sony Pictures CEO, however, would be horrified if Spiderman made money while the CEO had no hand in its success. Because if you can't take credit for Homecoming, then you can't claim that you are worth your salary or bonus.

Sony Pictures could make billions off MCU Spiderman, but if the Sony Pictures CEOs couldn't take credit then they are screwed. They would have no reason to exist and would be downsized.

It's like if you outsource all the work to a third party, and then your boss decided that they would just hire the third party and fire you.
