A few reasons.

He resented the notion of being a tool to them.

He was created to replace them.

He also saw how many of the threats to the world came FROM the Avengers, as well as several of them representing a massive threat themselves - if you remember that montage of him learning about the Avengers through the Internet with Jarvis. It was about 3 seconds long. Easy to Miss.

I don't think he actually hated the Avengers. I think he hated Tony. Or resented him at least,

As a villain he wasn't very well written.

It's implied that metahumans were the next step in evolution, and that their existence was threatened by non-metahumans/mutants.
