Invincible was good but I'm pretty sure you don't follow that. Button finale stuck the landing. People are getting triggered that Steve delegates the more gruesome tasks to his underlings like any good fascistic dictator. The eagerness with which people are jumping on Spencer (not to say that he doesn't deserve a good portion of it) is ridiculous.

In other news, crankypants still hates crossovers.

SECRET EMPIRE EXPANDED TO 10 ISSUES

God, Superman vs. Dr. Manhattan is stupid bullshit, but even that is a better idea than Marvel's constantly expanding annual events.

I swear, next year they'll announce a 5 part event that will somehow stretch into 2020 as it bloats to 18 issues.

Yeah, and Imra was voiced by Kari Wahlgrenn, reprising her role from the animated series. It's like they were pandering to me in particular.

DC's Legion push has been weird in that it's subtle-ish. I swear, the slow build has been torturous, but effective. They keep popping up in random places, and it does keep you on the look out even in stuff you wouldn't normally care about. Crafty bastards.

Hey Tex. Why is Odyssey of the Amazons so fucking boring and generic? Why is it the one Wondy spinoff we've gotten in ages has virtually fuck all to do with anything Wondy related?

OT: on a recent drive down to Houston I spent five hours listening to the P5 OST, despite the fact that I probably won't even get to play it for several years because no PS4.

>>92469959
I don't really understand why it was made, it gives no insight into the Amazons and features none of the named Amazons who will be in the movie.

Someone today said it seems more like they just took a generic fantasy/mythological script and slapped some Amazons on it and I'm inclined to agree with that.

Things started to make sense when I looked up the writer and found he's one of the co-creators of the Underworld franchise.
>>
>>92470064
working on it but it boots in like 15 seconds now, it's amazing
>>
>>92470000
I originally was just going to play NieR and Automata, and then I found out they're a sequel to the Drakengard series. Then I found out just how fucking insane the Drakengard continuity is. Like, there's fucking PLAYS and shit that are relevant to that canon.

Sadly, my curse is being a mad bastard (I once went all the way back to SMT...If to absorb the Persona timeline), so I know I'm gonna have to do it eventually, I just need to find the PS2 games.
>>
>>92469071
I am still weeks behind.

I read... ...the end of the Button of what's new? Thawne time travel shenanigans are kinda old to me at this point. Maybe they always were, given that the big example of it is killing Barry's mom, which is a tremendous "oh fuck off" point to me.
>>
>>92470061
I'm glad I'm into fucking weird were games that don't go to the PC, because with the myriad of car problems I have, there's no way I can afford a half decent gaming rig.
>>
>>92470107
I don't think you actually need any of Drakengard or even the original NieR for Automata. It's pretty complete and independent as a game (and .v. good). There is a fuckup metaplot though so I guess if you like that, get into it.

Everyone in Drakengard is a horrific human being.

NieR's ending is so damn final that I'm curious how it could possibly tie in to a sequel.

I mean Your character gets erased from existence and everyone's memory and then the game deletes your save file.

The ending is like a nightmare scream, yeah. It's completely fucking chilling to go through the plot and the reveal at the end and the self-reflection of the main character and have THAT as your finish. After I finished it I checked goodreads and instantly hated anyone who downrated it for being edgy or was like "I liked this when I was 14 - I don't anymore"

There were some fair points made about parts of the book being more a history lesson than story but I think that's kind of essential for the finish and you still get a strong PoV throughout. And it doesn't drag, at all, so it's a trade-off.

Let me know what you think of 1979 Einstein, it's a trip to realize that they're working from the same text, you know? It's shorter (had to be due to the LP format) and IMO weirder and rougher

Didn't The Reanimator/DCAU Question Jeffrey Combs voice him?

Thanks for posting as always, Storyteller.

I really gotta get around to reading some books, the poor things are just collecting dust on my shelf. Summer may be less miserable with some decent literature.

It's also very John Barnes that it's kind of a sequel/same universe as two practically YA novels (Orbital Resonance and Sky So Big And Black), and then one introspective grown-up book (Candle)
>>
>>92471740
I haven't read much else of his; another thing to (probably not) get around to.
>>
>>92471620
Thanks again OP

>>92471620
The fact his name is Guy Smith is fucking perfect.
>>
>>92471791
There's also the Giraut books, the excellent Million Open Doors followed by the insanely depressing but gripping Earth Made of Glass, and he promised me some day he'd finish A Far Cry (I drunktweeted him about it)

He's a smart guy.

The Hugo voting packet came out last night. Having over twenty books get dumped in your lap is an experience.

anything good?

any canine-forced John C. Wright this year?
>>
>>92473388
Just one short story, mercifully. (Also some dino porn.)

They got the entire Craft Sequence in the packet, which is impressive. Full list: http://file770.com/?p=35109#comment-637090

I needed to dunk my head in bleach after actually reading the entire essay collection that one year.

(also be sure to tell us what's good)

I've had clear and strong anti-recs for the McGuire novella and the Palmer novel.

>Stix Hiscock

Man, I miss when lady writers just used their initials. What a lousy pseudonym.
>>

Haven't read them yet, so I'm sure I'll have opinions soon enough!

(I also have a reasonable tolerance for "bad" as long as it's interestingly bad -- more of an issue for novels, really, since I read quickly enough to not worry about wasting too much time on shortfic.)

Speaking of interestingly bad -- I saw somebody on Twitter complaining today about Lois Lane losing a leg and saying that clearly this would never happen to male characters. I just wanted to force them to read Cry for Justice.

I'm down for new Oracle. She'd never work with the Squad though

>Lois Lane losing a leg
when did that happen?
>>
>>92473928
Superman #23 today.

>I just wanted to force them to read Cry for Justice.

What, so they could yell at you for giving them a story when a character's daughter dies so he could relapse into heroin addiction?
>>
>>92473971
... fair enough.
>>
>>92473879
The McGuire was dinged for being a tumblr lecture and failing utterly as a mystery despite the killer premise. Having read other work of hers, I believe this critique on its face.

The Palmer was more of "you can't do this twist in the second book without actually hinting at or setting it up in the first".

Stix Hiscock where, though?

OH SNAP! I've never heard about this one before! It's like a lost issue of X-Statix! Thanks, JSA storytime bro!
>>
>>92477610
You know, an X-Statix: the Lost Tapes would probably be one of the few good ways you could do a revival.
>>
>>92477682
After the recent Doop mini, I wouldn't trust Milligan with X-Statix again....

What was bad about it?
