My only problem with this book is the aimless narration box that doesn't connect to anything. Nick Spencer did that shit in Avengers World too, and it got to the point where I just started skipping narration boxes completely.

Also, there were some pretty slick panels/pages in this issue. I liked it.

>So why did they switch artists with the last two pages from Sorrentino to Reis?
Because it was a hasty rewrite shoe-horned in. The original ending to this issue probably had to do with Baron Mordo since this issue was supposed to be partially about him and he's nowhere to be found.

I think FC was planned that way from the start, part of Morrison whole meta saga, with Bruce running through time.

Armageddon 2001 comes to mind.
Captain Atom was going to be the villain, it leaked, and they changed it in the last issue to be Hawk, despite the previous issue literally ending with Captain Atom looking ominous as shit.

I may not LIKE what Spencer & Marvel editorial were doing but at least I'd respect if they stayed on course. Now this even is truly a giant bloated version of What If #44 by based Gillis.

So at the end of this will New Old Steve be fresh from WWII again? With lots of "Eye-phone? You have telephones made of eyes?!?" gags? Or maybe "Sam...you NEED to be Captain America because you ARE America for the 21st century!" with a pat on the back? I keep feeling they'll still want to downgrade his status to make their agenda characters appear prevalent.

Ah well...its fun to watch Marvel scramble to recoup.
>>

Fucking hell, why can't they use art from other books for the mugshots? Taking it from this issue for characters that only show up in the background and group shots looks so damn cheap.
>>
>>92462046
Morrison knew that Bruce would never stay dead, and that fact was a core element to his B&R run, this was planned from the word go.
>>
>>92462046
Final Crisis at least waited till the end to do that as a cliffhanger.

I'd say Civil War II is worse in that they had Banner killed off and just a few issues later reveal the Old Man Logan future could happen, meaning Banner was going to come back and that story had less weight.

That's a pretty fucking random cameo. I mean, it makes sense that he'd be there, since he was doing the street vigilante thing in his solo, but it's just so weird since Marvel dropped all their Squadron Supreme stuff after that little halfhearted push.

Then again, Spencer has been using Hyperion in the space forces, so maybe he just likes the SS.

Wiping out the X-gene and causing tons of deaths as a result, and making the X-Men an even bigger target on the brink of extinction is also way heavier. It's really weird. The way Spencer handles it seems the only way: imply that Hawkeye broke his no-killing rule to kill Banner and that made him even more against killing.

It'd be very weird for that to be Steve's inner world though. The previous scene didn't feature Captain Hydra, and the narration continuing from there isn't his either. Also, shouldn't he be facing Hydra in that case, rather than Serpent Society nobodies?

Millar wanted him to have consequences, then again he also didn't plan for the other comic writers to outright make him a supervillain.

>Even when Fraction mind-wiped him, he ended the arc with Tony reading about all the shit he did in Civil War, although, I don't remember anything coming from that.

And he later had Tony say he was right and that he would do it all over again even if he didn't remember doing it, it really rendered the whole "It wasn't worth it" speech from The Confession pretty moot.

If anything Good Cap looks like he might be Ultimate Cap, makes sense since we don't know what happened to Ultimate Cap when 616 Galactus attacked the Ultimate Universe other that he supposedly died.

It would also make sense for Ultimate Cap to state his name and tell the 616 people that he wants to go home.

But IMO this scene is happening inside Steve's psyche, remember how in Standoff all the people changed by Kobik needed triggers and certain key words to change back to their normal selves, Cap needs something like that.

This is going to be the equivalent of the "Why aren't you screaming?" Rich getting rid of the Phalanx moment except with Cap getting rid of the Kobik whammy.

The only prediction that was off that I remember was that one woman being Hydra, and that could be blamed on all the cosmic cube reality bending. This also highlights another problem with Ulysses' visions: he doesn't really see the whole context but only a single moment in the event. For all we know, the vision of Hulk Hulking out takes place years from now and he was fighting skrulls making themselves look like the heroes.

>>92473112

This. Steve would sacrifice himself without question, but if any of his comrades was Hydrafied he'd try absolutely any option possible before going for the kill. So, what, Superman Reborn?
>>
>>92473011
No, what happened was Brevoort and Slott got pissy about Bleeding Cool spoiling something (I think it was the creative teams for Marvel Now 2.0) but then like a day or two after all the snarking and anger, the NYT spoils Civil War II.

Also CW2 didn't exactly foreshadow it, it was just stuff like Skottie Young dropping a hint on a variant cover, and a Kirby variant cover or something like that. Banner didn't really show up until like the second issue.
>>
>>92477829
They released a promotional art pic teasing the issue with an Atom, with WHO WILL DIE? on it.

And don't get me started on the solicited covers being obvious as FUCK. There was a certain cover where they tried to redact arrows from a Cho Hulk cover where he was crushing them.
And a Spider-Woman cover, I think.
>>
>>92468962
fuck off little bitch
>>
>>92477879
Yeah, but was it foreshadowing in-story? Cause I reread the story to figure out where the specific problems were and I noticed Banner wasn't even around during #0 or 1. It felt like there was no real urgency to set things up in place. Like how when She-Hulk revives she's not seen again for the rest of the series (probably because Bendis had planned on killing her off until the leak happened). It really disconnects all the She-Hulk stuff from the rest of the book. Hawkeye's presence is another example, he only plays a role just to "kill" Banner, then he's on trial, and then acquitted, then he just goes away.
>>
>>92462223
>You're telling me that none of the mutants/inhumans/heroes still trapped in NY would be able to generate antibiotics or heal people?
Yes. The Xavier Institute is on lockdown during Secret Empire and the new X-Cutioner is trying to kill the X-Men there. Triage, the only one I think they have with healing powers, is stuck with them. Elixir is probably still in Exodus' sex dungeon, so don't expect him to help. Also, inhumans are in Hydra's camps, remember?
