What do you think of Don hertzfeldt?
not enough porn
My favorite cartoonist, and It's Such A Beautiful Day is the nest western cartoon ever made. Never fails to ruin my day and wreck my shit, throwing me down a chasm of existential despair and emotional turmoil.
I Love everything he's done. It's Such a Beautiful Day is arguably the best animated film this decade.

Can you explain what it's about I feel like an idiot not getting any hiddem meanings. To me it's just some guy getting cancer and things are going terribly wrong. And that some of his memories are not real.
BY THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY, MY ANUS IS BLEEEEEEDING
>>92459570
It's pretty much Bill getting some sort of Alzheimers out of nowhere due to his family medical history and trying to grasp to what's left of his memory. I could be wrong, it's been a long time since I watched this film.
Retarded tumblr cal arts bullshit

>>92456783
I laugh at him the same way I laugh at all nihilists.
>>92457803
LOL, shut the fuck up. :D
I love his work. It's fun and insightful. He's a futurist.
>>92456783
Simple yet effective.
>>92460304
He's not a nighlist.
>>92460304
>Nihilist
>The end of It's such a beautiful day is about appreciating the details, memories or whatever you can throughout your life
Okay
>>92460304
How is he a nihilist?
The ending to It's a Beautiful Day has him fearfully rejecting death, wanting Bill to live forever and enjoy all there is to life
I really enjoyed It's Such a Beautiful Day, how similar is World of Tomorrow to it?
>>92462693
Similar in atmosphere and art style, but with a more sci-fi approach

Kertzfeldt is the ultimate counterpoint to the John K school of thought on animation, and I adore him for it.
I'm probably one of the few people who didn't like Rejected, but ISABD is my favourite animated movie and I have watched WoT at least 3 times by now.
Bill's last moments still fuck me up.
>>92464623
Yeah, Rejected didn't age well, but it was quite original and good back on its time, before the LOL RANDUM XD stuff took over
>>92462583
>>92462222
>>92462525
>plebs who only know the meme version of nihilism
Yes, nihilism does state that nothing truly matters or has objective meaning.
But the part that follows this is the concept of affirming ourselves in light of this revelation, and seeking our own meaning in the world.

The "fish head" represents a brain tumor which causes the alzheimers I think (or it just represents alzheimers, the brain tumor is just what I think). In one of his dreams pretty early on he dreams about it having one attached to his skull. Then later theres imagery where his entire head is a fish head while everything around him is going crazy
>>92464714
I think Rejected still holds up and the last of couple of minutes are still amazing. The only problem is that everybody else ripped it off. You can see traces of Rejected on any of the work made by any YouTube/Newgrounds animator from the past 15 years.
>>92462583
There's a cool way the ending links with science, which is why I love it so much
A chemical in your brain called DMT is responsible for dreaming, and large traces of it are usually flooded into your brain during death and I believe birth. So in the last moments before he died, he dreamt he lived forever
Has anyone noticed some of his recent updates? What do you think it is?
>>92456783
His stuff is great. I must have watched ISABD a dozen times, and I'm not usually the sort of person to rewatch things. His artstyle is simple, but the animation itself has this wonderful lifelike quality that I don't see very often.
>>92466385
Well, WLRDOFTMRRW obviously means he's working on the World of Tomorrow sequel. I guess this means that Antarctica is on hold?
>>92464923
And what is exactly wrong with that school of thought? Or are we to continue the hilarious dark age practice of willingly suffering our entire lives because there's a promised land when we die?
Emily is purest waifu and I like her. Also have a teaser.
>>92469731
I see some additional muntal datorioration.
His new stuff is great, but I'll never be able to shake the nostalgia of his older work.
Hell, even Rejected had a coherent narrative beneath the "lolrandum" humor, as a self-destructive animator's increasingly erratic behavior starts bleeding into the work itself like a mad god unintentionally torturing his subjects.
>>92469806
I hope it's not too bad, I liked how subtle it was that she wasn't all up there.
>>92457824

tumblidditors, it's really good, but it's not the holy fucking grail of animation nor is it anything representative of the "future." The guy makes pretty stick figures and is creative with background art. That's about all I can say about that, the story is hilarious and profound and is one of my favorite movies, but it's certainly not a masterpiece that can be held above all other animated works. Infact, I wouldn't even put it up in the same category because to often people would score this movie higher because it's "lol so quirky weird minimalism with existential message everyone already knows" While serious animated films that don't look like a freshman's mass media project are going for something actually fucking technical while coupled with meaningful story.
That said, I think Don Hertzfeldt is cool and I hope he draws more stick figures.
>>92464923
Thats a contradictory philosophy as any meaning you begin to ascribe to your life will contradict your nihilist philosophy, nihilism is literally existential puberty.
>>92459570
Bill has some sort of serious mental disease probably inherited from his parents since they're both fucked up mentally (especially since his mother's side seems to have a history for it) and a lot of the sillier elements are actually just figments induced by the deterioration of Bill's mind throughout the movie. It's just a movie about a guy slowly losing his mind and dying.
>>92459570
It's about how, since you lived, you can never really die.
>>92462693
Mostly the same ideas but not as well done. Also he switched to digital animation and it looks kinda bad.
>>92456783
Soundtrack is amazing and it never fails to make me cry at the end. His other one was also really good.
>>92470900
>are going for something actually fucking technical
>implying his work is amateurish
If he didn't use stick figures to save time, there's no way he could produce such expressive animation on paper by himself.
>>92471279
I just watched World of Tomorrow. I kind of miss Hertzfeldt's narration, I think it complimented the visuals rather well in ISABD. I wish the little girl had spoken more, too, since that added back a bit of novelty to the whole thing in place of Hertzfeldt's odd voice, whereas the older version of the girl wasn't as endearing. Still, it was fairly enjoyable, and I liked the little twist at the end where she nearly gets stuck in the wrong time.
Best couch gag. I'm amazed The Simpsons actually accepted one specifically about shitting on the current state of the show.
>>92473237
they didn't get it
and I'm not saying it's even that deep
>>92457803
I drew some really shitty emily porn and then animated it, I'm not very proud of myself don't even know why I did it
>>92459570
>To me it's just some guy getting cancer and things are going terribly wrong. And that some of his memories are not real.
That's pretty much it.
It's a great movie because despite it's absurdity it's weirdly relate able, and comforting in it's depiction of what happens when you die.
I watched it shortly after my grandmother died after a long battle with lung cancer and it helped me come to terms with it a lot.
It's such a beautiful day is very good. 9/10 spent the night after watching this with my buddy high as shit stranded on the local train system

yeah, that was so weird they do that.

Loli Emily or milf Emily?
>>92473237
The banksy couch gag was shitting on the simpsons but Don's actually had some subtly and meaning.
I'm amazed how you can take the same exact concept and create something so different
>>92474480
I mean it's just a bunch of poorly drawn geometric shapes slapping into each other but I guess it's loli emily
>>92474507
at the end of the day isn't that what all cartoons are?
He makes stuff and I like most the stuff.
>>92473237
You think either the network or whoever's in charge of the show cares? You know the first episode of The Boondocks? You can call them nazi robots and they'll just smile and clap. They don't care; they're rich.
>>92474507
Ah nevermind.
>>92456783
It's Such a Beautiful Day is my favorite American animated film of all time. But my favorite animated film of all time is a tie between NausicaƤ of the Valley of the Wind and Laputa: Castle in the Skybut NausicaƤ of the Valley of the Wind slightly wins here because it was the first Studio Ghibli film I ever watched.
I have Hertzfeldt on Blu-Ray. Money well spent.

It's not the message, it's the delivery.

I AM SIMPSON
>>92473237
That was the most beautiful thing associated with The Simpsons since like 2002.
It's an spectacular little short, it gets me in the feels every time.
>>92473237
"STILL LOVE YOU, HO-MAR."
That whole gag was unironically the most emotional part of the season.
>>92456783
He's the shit.

Last night when I made this I was really drunk
It's so poorly done it couldn't possible constitute a bannable offence rightright?
