Ronin by Frank Miller

I liked it a lot, so I'd say it's totally worth it.

It's worth having for the art, which really is Miller at the top of his game, but the script is kind of mess after part 2.

It uses the basic "Samurai Revenge Quest" storyline to give you several running well-written bittersweet cyberpunk subplots. It's a brutal, memorable, high-concept human drama. It's also distinct from SJ, so you'll get more of what you love while getting something new.

This is the same man who put out Tales to Offend, not everything he does is serious.

To be fair, he's only done half a dozen stories this century and half of them are actually pretty solid. Take away All Star Batman, DKSA, and Holy Terror, and his career is pretty much spotless.
