Outlaw Star is good. It's definitely a product of its time (some of the characters are initially pretty flat and underdeveloped, there are a lot of cliche anime jokes, the villain is somewhat out of focus, and the episodes leading up to the finale had some serious off-model bullshit going on), but if you can look past all that you can see a fantastic space opera story that really gets the brain churning to go on interstellar adventures.

Also the jailbreak episode is one of the best goddamn episodes of an anime I've ever seen, so there's that.
