They've been pretty consistently retarded for over a decade. Distribution is one of those things they've just never been able to figure out though, and the problem is almost always "we shipped too many of X character that nobody wants, stores aren't ordering new cases" and in most cases there's an easy resolution but they don't do it because they're morons.

For example, take the 3.75 inch Black Series that's exclusive to Walmart. Stores were so overstocked with unsold Finn, TFA Han and TFA Leia that most stores are now marking them down to over half off. Meanwhile some characters like the Emperor's Guard and Death Troopers are impossible to find because they sell out incredibly fast. The easy solution would be to have case assortments that don't include pegwarmers and include more of characters that are in demand, right? Nope, these stores have all started receiving more cases of the wave that included Han, Leia and Finn! Characters that weren't selling even at half price!

Finn's especially annoying because they've had nearly two years to notice that he's not selling and to remove him from future case assortments but they KEEP ADDING HIM.

The TPM wave made to promote the 3D release. It wasn't a bad wave, but being a movie release, Hasbro talked stores into buying massive quantities of them... and then made the idiotic choice of offering some of the exact same figures in a similarly priced "Movie Heroes" line, as well as a Walmart exclusive line that was the same as Movie Heroes except with 3D glasses.

So if you went to Walmart you could find the exact same Qui-Gon figure on three different cards at three different prices. Hasbro then kept putting these same figures into future assortments without realizing that they weren't selling. One is that we go where TFA was afraid to go and make it so that we parallel the PT by having the New Republic/Good Guy Central Government in power and having seemingly set up a good thing, although there are little hints here and there that not everything is perfect. Terrorist groups conduct hit and run attacks that don't do too much damage but still are resulting in increased instability in outer regions (basically the inverse of the Rebellion vs Empire scenario).

Meanwhile, a nod is given to the Grey Jedi meme by having a group of Force practitioners who believe in having an equal amount of Light and Dark in a misinterpretation of what it means to be balanced. Naturally, these guys range from hilariously misguided to outright useless, but it turns out that the leadership fell to the Dark Side and lead the group in the hopes of keeping any Force users from successfully opposing them.

All the while, we also explore themes of cynicism in our world versus the idealism of Star Wars. Characters are convinced that since it's a never ending battle of good versus evil that there's just no point to it all. However, it is eventually made clear that while it's easy to fall into apathy, good is worth fighting for and evil worth combating, while apathy is nothing but a means of allowing evil to fester. In this way, it becomes a commentary on people who want SW to go "grey" when the series has its roots in being an idealistic one that originally popped up in a cynical political era where cinema was increasingly "realistic" and well, cynical. In this way, it serves to revive the ethos of the series for a new era where politics is as terrible as ever and movies feel the need to be edgy in an attempt at "realism."

This is something that bugged me about KotOR2. Your companion roster depends on your Jedi exile's gender (Handmaiden/Disciple) or Light/Dark side inclinations (Mira/that wookie whose name I dont remember).

To be fair before Lucas got heavily involved in the extended lore people saw these guys wearing some very specific armor and all they knew was that the armor was Mandalorian so naturally they assumed they were Mandalorians. Sort of like if you saw some guy in Jedi robes with a lightsaber and naturally assumed they were a Jedi until it was revealed that they were just a bounty hunter that wore a Jedi costume for no reason.

I remember reading as a kid in reference books (before the prequels or Anything) that the Mandalorians were a somewhat mysterious, long dead society that faught against the Jedi, and that it was a mystery why Boba Fett idolized them to the point of wearing g their 'ancient' armor. He was also said to take payment in Mandalorian armor and other items for jobs.

Anyone else remember that?

I'm looking at it from the point of view of standalone, objective qualities of a movie. If you watch The Force Awakens while having little attachment to Star Wars as a whole, it's a perfectly enjoyable, serviceable action-adventure movie. On the other hand it's a lot harder to sell someone with no attachment to Star Wars on the Phantom Menace or Attack of the Clones. Your perspective on those movies change if you have a deep appreciation for the series, so you can pick up on the deeper meanings and relevance and pottery, whereas you can see TFA for being a slap in the face to the series. As objective movies seen in their own bubble, the first two prequels are pretty weird, but TFA is a good time.
