Where does one start with her? What are the essential things to read, preferably in graphic novel/collection format.
Morrison's Seven Soldiers of Victory is a must.
>>92340371
It's basically the entire list.
There was this one time she was forced to erase Batman's memories and destroy Doctor Light's brain... It was a whole to-do.
>>92340424
Why do all the coolest characters have such a small list of good content? It's too bad.
There's a new trade out that contains all of the Paul Dini stuff (her solo series)

Like Power Girl and plenty of other fan-favorite characters, her appeal isn't really in her solo runs. It's more in her appearances and team-ups with other heroes.
However, one of the classic stories is Justice League of America's "The Search for Zatara", which I will now post for the good people of /co/.

>Where does one start with her?
The feet
This story is about Zatanna trying to find her father, Zatara, one of DC's oldest characters, appearing in Action Comics #1.
>>92340645
Neat.
Zatanna had actually shown up in several other comics between 1964 and '67, where she met other JLAers. They serve as a setup to this story, with her still searching for her dad.
Elongated-Man is another great character known more for his appearances in other characters' titles and on the JLA than his own solo adventures.

Hey Texas, what do you think of the Brave and the Bold issue with Zat and Diana?
>>92340349
Black Canary/ Zatanna: Bloodspell
Her solo series (although it takes a hit afte Dini leaves)
Seven Soldiers
Detective Comics 833-34 and 843-44 are alright too
This story is by comics legend Gardner Fox, one of the most underrated DC writers. Just as Jack Kirby was essential as the earliest architect of the Marvel U, Fox along with Julius Schwartz built the DCU as we know it in both the Golden Age and the Silver Age.

Never read it. I'm actually not that big of a Zatanna fan, but I'm a huge Justice League of America fan so I know her well from her appearances here.
I wish Gardner Fox could have survived a lot longer so he could get some of the money he rightly deserves for how much he created stuff that became billion dollar franchises.
But of course he'd be over 100 years old now.

I might post it after. Last time someone posted it, an anon pointed out that a lot of the little details are wrong, but I still enjoyed it.
It also has art by Chiang!
Like Kirby, Fox was not so great at character writing (that's where Stan Lee came in at Marvel), but he's got a brilliant and imaginative mind, and with how many stories he's written he knows how to write a story in his sleep.
>Hal's ass

Unfortunately I'll have to read it later because I'm about to leave and have a bunch of shit to do today, but it's appreciated.
>Chiang drawing Zatanna
Yes

cheers, and i've got to give thanks for the wonder woman gods & mortals run. speaking of, and as a question to anyone -- is there a good site online to read the remaining couple hundred issues? readcomiconline.to hasn't got it, and i'd love to continue it. a really enjoyable series, and i'm really getting into the characters.
can't even find it as an anthology collection, but then i suppose that's to be expected. i'm just more surprised that DC is still selling bits of it in the coming months.
>>92341486
Fox also apparently wrote a bunch of pulp novels under various pen names (and a fair few were quite smutty)
>>92341535
I do have it all in the Dropbox. Perez's run only goes up to #62, though.
I plan to do his entire run on the day the movie comes out.
Does the readcomic site let anyone upload?
>>92341557
Yup, especially in his later years. I keep looking for them at used bookstores but I have yet to find a single one.
It's awful that that's what he was basically forced to do at the end of his life. Though without reading them I can't say how much effort may have gone into them.
Coincidentally, Hawkman is in a lot of ways what many people think Wonder Woman should be, isn't he? A true warrior born and bred, "pragmatic", willing to do what's necessary.
>>92341667
Zatanna just enjoying the violence.
>>92341529
I'll hold off for now, because it's the kind of story that works better when you are reading it as the pages are being posted.
These stories all basically had at least three modern-day issues worth of story, it really shows the difference between classics and modern storytelling.
>>92341739
Looks like they're playing Amazon wrestling games.
And that's all I got, gotta run now.
>>92341306
Don't forget Identity Crisis!I'm still mad
>>92341229
Came here to say this and I'm not even a footlord
>>92341792
Neato, cheers Tex.
Has anyone read her later stint on the team (a.k.a the Lobster-hat era)? Is it good? Bad? Forgettable? I've never really seen it mentioned
>>92341593
i'm not sure if it does! i don't have an account, and i presume that you need to be registered. it's rather cryptic -- the 'request a comic' page takes you to a facebook messenger login, and the forum link probably requires you to be logged in because it just throws a 403 forbidden. glad to hear you're planning on continuing his wwv2 run, though i can't say i have much optimism for the movie! i'll definitely stay tuned for the comic dump, though.
