This movie is underappreciated.
>>
"Ohana means family, and family means no one gets left behind, or forgotten."

A message for everybody.
>>
>>92329686
That's a funny way to spell overappreciated
>>
>>92329790

never hear anybody talk it about
>>
>>92329686
It's my absolute favorite Disney movie
>>
>>92329790
It's underappreciated, there is very little porn.
>>
>>92329686
What are you talking about? People loved it.
Just because you don't see a thread about it every day doesn't mean it's underappreciated.
>>
>>92329686
It got three movies, a series, several crossovers and TWO animes.

Aside from Lion King, has any other Disney feature film got that much love?
>>
>>92329686
So /co/
Lilo & Stitch or Moana?
>>
>>92329686
>took my little sister to see it in theaters
>we got there late
>lights are already down
>watch whole movie
>have a blast
>sister loves it
>movie ends, sister needs to pee
>take her to the bathroom, right next to theater exit
>getting strange looks from people on their way out
>dawning horror as I realize the only man between the ages of 12 and 35 is hanging out outside the girls bathroom at the release of a Disney movie
Only God can judge me
felt bad mang
>>
>>92329964
Moana. Maui is fucking great.

Lilo and Stitch is definitely not underappreciated. Disney is huge especially in Japan and nips LOVE Stitch to death along with Frozen.
>>
>>92329847
Psst
DarkYamatoMan on sadpanda
>>
>>92329964
I really enjoyed both. Moana was gorgeous, had a really interesting traditionalist message, and I liked both Moana and Maui as characters. However, Lilo and Stitch seems like an overall more solid movie with a more fleshed-out world, funnier jokes, and better pacing. Moana seemed more like a character study or stage play focusing on the interactions between Moana and Maui for the most part.
>>
>>92329917
Was gonna say this. This is one of the most over-milked and beloved Disney movies around.
>>
>>92329686

LOL, definitely not underappreciated.

If anything, it's more overrated than Frozen.
>>
>>92330239

Remember when this movie first came out? There was merchandise EVERYWHERE and people got sick of it.
>>
>>92330120

Lilo & Stitch had an unfocused plot. It was essentially two storylines (one revolved around trying to catch an alien criminal, and other revolved around a young woman trying to ensure her little sister isn't taken away) in parallel with one another.
>>
>>92329686
What's underappreciated is how terrible Lilo was to Nani. Yeah, Lilo's young, but even a brain-dead child would understand not to make waves until CPS leaves.
>>
>>92330611
I don't think that made it unfocused at all. I think the two parallel plots were the main intention from the get-go, where two unlikely worlds collide and two unlikely outcasts find each other, and manage to be the solution to each others' problems.
>>
>>92329917
>two animes
Explain
>>
>>92329964
Lilo and Stitch doesn't have stupid animal mascots.
>>
>>92331111
I think that was the point as well. Lilo wasn't just misunderstood and bullied, she was a really messed up brat who was lonely but only seemed to know how to cause trouble and push people away. A lot like Stitch.
>>
>>92331182
>>92331111
What's more telling is that the boiling pot on the stove that Nani looks into probably has a dead animal in it. Lilo says she "found that this morning", and traumatized kids having a fascination with dead shit is common
>>
>>92331182

I mean to be fair to her, her family sans Nani is dead in that car crash. Lilo doesn't know how to cope with that (which is why she is super strict about feeding her fish-she thinks he controls the weather, and we know that the car crash that killed her family was on a rainy day that made them lose control of the vehicle)

Though I like how the movie showed Nani in a very sympathetic light. She's what, early 20's, tops? Her whole family is dead sans her really young sister, and she has to raise her and try to piece together a life, when all of a sudden an alien comes in that indirectly threatens to have the cops come in and take the LAST living family member (close to her at least) away from her.

The scene where the house blows up and Nani freaks out, followed by Lilo's capture and Nani's breakdown, was really well done.
>>
>>92331149
I think there was some adaption that China made where Stitch looked identical but it was a different girl and other humans. Not sure about the other one.
>>
>>92330030
don't feel bad anon, your sister had a great time and that's all that should matter
>>
>>92331111
>>92331237
>>92331403
N-NANI?!
>>
>>92331403
Oh I absolutely agree. They did a good job at making both Lilo and Nani very realistic and relatable. I think that was one of the best scenes in the movie. She had just finally gotten a job too. Then right as she's leaving, she sees the firetruck. "Don't turn left, don't turn left."
>>
It got 3 movies and a 2 season cartoon, a 2 season anime and what will soon be a season of some chinese shit.

There's an anime named Stitch which was a distant sequel where Stitch left Lilo in her college years and fell off the wagon and went back into space, only to come back to Earth maybe a decade later and crash land in Okinawa and become some Japanese girl's pet.

Then just this year, an American/Chinese co-production called Stitch and Ai debuted, headed by some of the people that worked on the original Lilo and Stitch the Series.
In that one, a gang of Space Pirates stole Stitch away from Lilo after they had failed in making their own 626s with stolen data from Jumba's labs. Stitch escapes and after surviving atmospheric re-entry, lands in China and ends up with a new family that's basically just a chink version of his Hawaiian family. Also, Jumba and Pleakley are there because the Councilwoman doesn't want these space pirates to get their hands on Stitch again.
>>
>>92329721
Except for whe. Lilo missed one reunion and he abandoned her
>>
>>92331543
>>92329917
Isn't it 4 movies in total?
>>
>>92331520

Oh jeez, that scene. Forgot about that-so accurate too. That fucking dread she was feeling was so accurately conveyed, and anyone's who's had that "please don't let that emergency vehicle turn in the direction of where I live" can empathize with that

As a kid, I didn't really appreciate what Nani was going through, but I definitely have a better sensation now.

I think that's also what Nani putting up with/trusting Stitch makes sense. She's lost almost her whole family and she's still a young adult. All the people she could rely on for guidance are gone. We see that even though she's busting her ass off trying to find/hold a job, the circumstances are just not in her favor (usually due to Stitch/Lilo).

Yet despite all the screwups that have hurt Nani and Lilo and put them in danger and blew up their damn house, because Stitch is still willing to put his life and freedom on the line for Lilo (and Nani) without hesitation, she accepts him into their small, broken family.

Because that's what family does for each other. Even when they screw up and hurt each other, they still love each other and are willing to sacrifice for each other.

Goddamn, the last bit when Stitch explains "This is my family. I found it, all on my own. It's little...and broken...but still good. Ya, still good." gets me EVERY TIME.
>>
>>92331595
The chinese one is better becsuse stitch was taken against his will and he didnt leave behind his family
>>
>>92331612
And what makes it worse was Lilo ran late because Nani was having a baby. And somehow Stitch was not in the loop on this.
>>
>>92331690
If they had ignored the original series it would have been fine but it literally shits on the message of the series
>>
>>92331690
>>92331612
When did this happen?
>>
>>92331829
In the japanese stich anime. Thhey had an ep later on where adult lilo and her daughter go to japan and remeet with stitch and she explains that while coming home from college to meet stitch nani went into labor so lilo didnt show. So stitch went into space for years
>>
>>92331652
I cry every time
>>
>>92331863
Oh psh didn't even Disney disown that thing and say it's absolutely not canon?
>>
>>92331863
Guess that's when everybody at Disney decided that the Stitch anime was Not Canon.

Disney pulled an Expanded Universe before they even got Star Wars.

The third season of the anime had an episode addressing the elephant in the room that was the entire "Stitch is with a new family now" premise in which we are introduced to Ani, Lilo's daughter that looks identical to her as a kid and we get some "Race to the airport to meet Lilo before she leaves" thing in the third act.
>>
>>92331155
you mean like the series
but that was half of the charm
>>
>>92331898
>>92331915
Disney USA was mostly just indifferent to the anime. While a dub was produced, it never really aired here in the states.

Chris Sanders was the one that said "That fucking shit doesn't count", but I think he was at Dreamworks by the time this show was airing.
>>
>>92331941
Kek I'm glad I never bothered with this

>>92331961
I'm glad he disavowed it. I'd honestly take his word over Disney's.
>>
Who here liked the series? I fucking loved it as a kid because it was like they combined my favorite Disney movie with Pokemon.
>>
>>92331997
Also, I think part of why they did that episode was because the English dub threw a line in the first episode suggesting something more shallow like Lilo getting a boyfriend and not needing Stitch anymore.

That whole show is just a dumpster fire.
>>
>>92331883

No shame anon, the music and everything in that scene is 10/10
>>
>>92329686

WOW GUISE DAE LILO AND STITCH IS A TRUE GEM???

I ALSO LIKE THIS UNDERRATED AND RELATIVELY UNKNOWN BAND CALLED NIRVANA. YOU PROBABLY HAVEN'T HEARD OF THEM THO

I can't give Pudge tuna!
>>
>>
>>
>>92335441
There was a deleted scene that was supposed to be in the movie. Some birds gather over Pudge and attack him. Stitch just sits and watches while smiling. Lilo returns and shoos the birds away then berates Stitch for it. Pudge is dead. Lilo buries him next to her parent's grave and Stitch notices then he starts to feel like shit for it. Lilo explains that it wasn't his fault.

I can't watch again or I'll get feels again.
>>
Not by my gf. Stitch is her favorite.
>>
>>92330030

You literally were taking your sister to a kids movie that she loved. Calm down.
>>
why is alien + beach setting so popular?
>>
>>92329917
The series was amazing. They also got more crossovers than any other Disney cartoon (aside from Sofia I think).
>>
>>92329686
>Iron Giant
>Lilo and Stitch

Both are about little kids finding alien death machines. What is it about that plot? Is it just ET? Does it exist before that?
>>
>>92329813
/co/ never talks about things it likes.
>>
>>92336150
immigration
>>
>>92329964
L&S is a better overall movie, but Moana is gorgeous. But both have brown girls that deserve way much more porn than they got. It's a shame most drawfags flock to anything currently that's popular regardless of quality, and even those who don't almost never draw 34 of the older stuff.
>>
>>92336150
>aliens
The whole wave of alien movies was mostly by people who grew up during the space race when NASA and the government were lying out their ass about how beneficial and fun space is to justify the billions in budget just so they could outdo the Russians. Kids nowadays will probably grow up really lukewarm towards space and aliens. Unless you count bullshit like the Bayformers as alien movies.

>beach
Beaches are comfy and pretty.
>>
>>92335811
That actually would be a good point for Stitch to start turning good because for once, he sees the consequences of his actions and realizes it's not all fun and games, especially when someone dies.
>>
>>92329964
I wonder whats the audience reaction towards shirtless toddler Moana flashback? I bet they were uncomfortable.
>>
>>92329686
Your mom is underappreciated, get her something for mothers day you fucking faggot.
>>
The only thing I remember about Lilo and Stitch is the deleted scene where Lilo is furious that she lives in a tourist trap with abundant jobs and an economy instead of the borderline third-world hellhole she would otherwise.
>>
I swear this movie was really popular when I was young. It got a sequel and a cartoon. Maybe my family was just obsessed with it.
>>
>>92331595
Top kek it's literally Lilo, Nani and David. Also if Jumba and Pleakley are there, couldn't they take Stitch back to Lilo?
>>
>>92330120
>traditionalist
I can't believe I didn't notice that. I guess it does make sense though, Moana did go back to her roots to save the world and showed how tradition has value. I don't think I've seen many western movies with such a message, deliberate or not.
>>92335811
>>92340687
Deleted scenes included Lilo making false claims of a tsunami when there were siren drills and chasing Gantu into a city that most likely got cut because of 9/11. Was fully animated and everything too. It makes much more sense and it's better animated. It's jarring how off the animation looks when Jumba unveils the spaceship to Nani.

Reminder /co/fags got unfortable about that scene of naked toddler Riley Anderson. Lots of pedo powerlevels was detected that day.
>>
>>92329964
Now thats a tough decision. Both are probably my favorite disney movies. Moana overall but Lilo and Stitch had better characters.
>>
>>92332085
