You see, the rules can be subjective. If you interpret them in a laid back way like mods do now, almost everything is allowed in most blue boards except porn and gore. I think there's very little middle-ground in big, general forums like these.

My only defense here is an appeal to history. Other sites that went through something similar have tried exactly what you're suggesting. It's funny actually, when /vip/ started and some posters started praising the idea and wanting paying posters to have more priviledges so you'd discourage shitposting, it's quite literally what Something Awful did with its ten bucks policy. I'd rather see 4chan crash and burn naturally than to see it become what SA did. You should start posting there for a while and see if you like that style of moderation.

Yes. That's because this one of the few high-profile website on the web where this is allowed. Take it away from it, it becomes generic. It will become great for very old, elitist posters but new blood will become rarer and the site will become more and more isolated within itself. It's a slow, painful death.

The way things are now there's only two options: 4chan will become so stale it will become less popular so the particularly bad shitposters will start leaving by themselves and the site will reinvent itself, or it will become something completely different so decent posters will start to migrate somewhere else until things improve. Both are better options than going the SA route.
