In the 17 years since then, my parents have died, I got a career and then abandoned it, my politics have changed radically, I'm not in contact with any of my old friends, the forums I used to post on are almost all dead, the scar I used to have on my face is gone, I lost 100 pounds, I don't even go by the same name.
Basically, in the Ship of Theseus that is me, Sluggy is the only remaining plank. Also my penis, I guess. My penis is pretty much the same. Sluggy and my penis. These are how I know that I am me.
Lion Man isn't on its original site, but you can find a zip file with the comics in it. A real weird one. I remember I got into it off of a storytime on here.

I remember when /b/ found Fred-chan's old loli hentai that he thought he'd deleted off the internet and then /b/tards printed it out and brought it to him at a convention to have him sign it and Fred-chan got fucking livid and then later went on a rant on his site saying "Yeah, well I'm GLAD /b/ found my old loli hentai. I'm proud of my old loli hentai. I totally own my old loli hentai. I never said I was against hentai."
And when he first started Megatokyo he warned his readers that if they started drawing hentai of his characters he'd stop doing his comic, so of course a whole bunch of hentai artists started drawing yaoi of Piro and Largo.
What a time that was to be young and online.

Sexy Losers
Does anyone still follow Clay's newer work, is he still kowtowing to sjws?
>>92329884
He updates Sexy Losers ever once in awhile. I'd post some here but they're all NSFW.
Depression Comics doesn't kowtow to SJWs but it's not very interesting. If you don't suffer from depression then it probably doesn't have anything for you (except maybe helping you understand people who have depression a bit more) and if you do suffer from depression all it does is validate your depression without actually doing anything to help you overcome your depressions. Validation is fine but at some point you have to actually get off your ass and do something about your depression.
Basically Depression Comics is just one strip told over and over and over again.
I don't get how people think it's kowtowing to SJWs, unless people think that admitting having depression sucks is howtowing to SJWs. Clay suffers from depression so he made a strip to help him work out the feelings he has about having depression. It's not like it's new ground for him. Before he did Sexy Losers he had a comic that was all about how having depression poisoned every relationship he was in.
Sexy Losers was him showing that people who have depression can also have a wicked sense of humour. Hell almost every successful stand up comic suffers from some crippling form of mental illness.
>>92330286
Thank you for your effortpost.
By "kowtowing to sjws" I didn't mean Depression Comix, I was flippantly referring to how I remember things from when I followed his tumblr back when he started Depression Comix. It seemed to me like he fell into the trap that a lot of decent liberal creators have fallen into whereby they fail to realize that the large amounts of SJ complaints they get are not necessarily in particularly good faith.

Webcomics really are one of those things where you either die or live long enough to become a villain.
Or, well, trans, in an alarming number of webcomic artists' cases. Wonder what it is about drawing comics for the computer that makes you wanna turn into a girl?
Personally, I miss Teahouse. Not because I enjoyed it, but I loved the threads we'd have on here where we'd all tear it to shit and swap edits of the latest pages.
We don't really have bad webcomics threads anymore. They get really derailed by all the angry trans comics and then they just get deleted. It really is the thing I miss the most about /co/.

>Or, well, trans, in an alarming number of webcomic artists' cases. Wonder what it is about drawing comics for the computer that makes you wanna turn into a girl?
Not that's it's necessarily this way anymore, but a lot of early web comic artists were nerdy, liberal arts majors, who thrived on attention and didn't fit in with normal people. That's like the breeding grounds for a future tranny.

Most artists manage that without dressing up in drag. To a greater degree of success I might add.

He's non-binary now, anyway. I'm not fucking around. He considers himself trans and for the last couple series he's done, he's been casting trans va's to play "girl" characters. Which is hilarious, because they're all totally identical to his girl voices, anyway (literally thought it was him doing the voice for awhile). So it's really just a big waste of money, assuming he's paying them. He's also "really loud about politics" if you know what I mean.
https://youtu.be/-qEPQ1VFvNA
https://twitter.com/MattWilsonCSS
He also tried to do LPs for awhile, but those struggled to break into double digits views on youtube. So he started uploading specific ones onto his animation channel and for some of them is just barely squeaking by 100 views. His animations still get a pretty good amount of views, though. His current channel is updating semi regularly with a podcast where he and three acquaintances are playing a really awful game of D&D.
Matt is some kind of super Dobson, left alone by the internet and mutated by time. His animation and writing got shit and lazy and fell to pieces, his color theory fell the fuck apart and turned into grey cotton candy, and he became the sort of person who recedes so totally into themselves that he dropped almost all contact with everyone who ever knew him. 2006 Matt Wilson and on was like a completely different person. Bonus Stage was the most popular thing he ever created and despite deciding that he hated it and wanted it gone, he tried (and still tries) to reincarnate it nearly yearly.

I thought it was Matt until I looked it up. Looks like he explicitly got a trans VA for the role.
Also, the story the character gives about "Being kept in a tower by their dad" for "Thinking and acting differently than they wanted" is a really man-handled metaphor. They explicitly state that this"ex-princess" used to be a prince. It actually pissed some people off because of how ham fisted and awful a metaphor that is. but a ton of people applauding him, because of course a bunch of people think something like that is a great way to describe gender dysphoria.

>non-binary
I don't know why web creators try this "non-binary" thing AFTER people have seen them IRL, especially ones that have been moderately successful . Like really, who are you trying to fool
From what I'm watching and from what I remember about Deadly Space Action it seems like Matt's major problem is that he's actually putting effort into lore/story and character now
The catch is that he was never really good at that and he's not putting enough into it. He's like Kirbopher without the VA career
Whatever happened with Order of the Stick? I stopped reading around the time the midget grew a conscious.
>>92333287
A Lesson Is Learned is like that; a strange juxtaposition that may or not make sense, but is goddamn beautiful regardless.
Whenever I see one of these threads, they're always so depressing. Terrible retro webcomics long abandoned, between failed attempts at revivals, mixed in with anons gossiping on their authors real lives like I'm reading ED or something.
>>92333292
Deadly Space Action may as well be abandoned, guy. In 2013 no less. He tried to bring it back with "Mini-sodes" in 2015, but failed miserably. It's all about whatever the fuck else he's doing lately, I don't know. Let's say Puzzle Hunter's and Princess Ness.
Also, DSA had a ton of writing issues as well. Matt can't write a female character that isn't some kind of attempt at a perfect Mary Sue waifu, and Paige was no different. She's like the embodiment of sad nerds who want a girlfriend who likes videogames and is quirky and fun, but also not too hot, so she doesn't sleep around. Or whatever the fuck. Literally Ellie for the umpteenth time.
Also, the "Non-Binary" thing has nothing to do with what they look like? Non-Binary is a declaration of not being male or female. It's a snowflake gender, my dude. It literally means he identifies as neither male nor female, but some other third thing somewhere between, but also outside of the binary system.
>>92333399
I agree, but they're fascinating for me in terms of seeing others who remember and comparing how it was then to now.
>>92333292

I read it. It had a lot of flaws but it was pretty fun. I don't think I could read it again.
Then Lesnick did You Suck and it was pretty good, better art and pacing. His Tumblr was full of garbage though, and I think he got harassed off it. He was trying to stay off the sauce so I think that had something to do with it too.

So I'm gonna toss nockForce in here, too. Because it's the same Ian J as RPG World and the same Ian J as fucking Steven Universe. It was fucking good! And then it ended out of nowhere.
https://youtu.be/jfuAgZ-JDPwThe other guy does movie reviews, now.
I liked that vampire cheerleader webcomic a lot, but I stopped reading it when they changed the art up. I can deal with a change in artists, but this was straight up a change in art genres. Also apparently you can't read it for free anymore?
It's amazing how many of these old webcomics are completely unreadable now. Not because they're bad but because they were drawn for 800x500 monitors.
>>92333552
Lesnick did some good things for the webcomic community but remembering just how hard he tried to defend Moon Over June, even going so far as trying to get Hussie to back him up is something I can't forgiveeven after it was revealed that it was allegedly made by a gay dude to make fun of his lesbian sister
>>92333747
>>92333552
Josh L. did some okay work, but most of his series were one note bits. Girly is a really good example, in that the joke was lesbians, and the joke continued to be lesbians for like 1000 pages and 5 years. He tried to shoehorn in plot, but it was really obvious it wasn't his thing.
He stopped around the time he did Slipshine, and now he owns like half the internet and is an INTENSE male feminist. Going so far as to make threats against artists he employs if they don't agree with him. Which is ironic, because he does a lot of incredibly questionable pornography himself. So now everything has to get all soapboxy when he's involved and it's fucking terrible.
>>92333704

Maybe some. I've known quiet/anxious people who are apparently bothered enough to ask for things like different pronouns despite knowing that a lot of people will hate them just for asking.
I don't think I'll ever get why non-binary gender is a thing, I can understand the concept of mind-body dysphoria but "gender" as a feeling seems too abstract. Despite that, I figure at least most of these folks who claim to be non-binary probably do experience some feeling that I'm just never going to feel, or they wouldn't go through the hassle of en masse mockery.
>>92328174
This truly speaks to me.
Unrelated, there was once a webcomic about some vaguely 1920s themed noir dystopia? Super cliche story, and only made it through a chapter before dropping off the planet, but the art was sort of amazing and I'd like to find the creator again.
>>92333292
There were some good moments in High Score and Bonus Stage that had good character development or complex plots, so he's not incapable of it, it's just that in everything after that he tries too hard and sucks
So I'm not the only one to remember that Anime Arcadia was a thing and not some over the counter, painkiller induced fever dream, right?

It was pretty funny how its reputation preceded it like that time someone preemptively took down an archive before getting reviewed. Looking back it was probably the right decision to step away from that kind of critique since all it attracted was negativity on both sides.

Theory I've developed: the most common reason webcomic authors quit or go downhill is that they get some kind of advice they feel like they have to take, something which they become convinced is the "correct" way, and forcing themselves to do it makes them enjoy their work less, which in turn becomes less spontaneous.
Note: This isn't referring to SJWs (at least not exclusively), there are a variety of different things artists can be peer-pressured into with style and content.
>>92334200
I think it was his review of College Roomies from Hell that even clued me into that comics existence. It was my first real "can't look away" comic where everything was so bad you just couldn't help but keep reading.

I think that a lot of them just can't handle doing both the comic and their own job on top of it and decide to scrap the comic so they can keep their shit together. For the grand majority of webcomic authors it's a passion project they know won't make them any money. A lot of them try to live off it but for every Penny Arcade there's a million and one comics that will never take off commercially.

Hyperboy was GOAT but the premise was pretty thin and I'm sure the author was kind of embarrassed to still be fooling around with the "what if me and my friends were superheroes" premise that basically EVERY kid that grows up into comics fucks with at some point.
Gene's pitching show's now, I guess? I'm interested in seeing what becomes of him, because Hyperboy was basically just his version of juvenile scribbles and it still holds up impressively.

>>92367114
I think it was /b/ that uncovered it too. It was a whole bunch of loli porn that he drew under a pen name but the style was so identical to Chugsworth that there was no doubt he was the one who drew it.
Does anyone remember the name of that webcomic where a girl gets transported to this weird alien world to get sacrificed to the dark gods, and she doesn't speak the language at all for like most of the comic?
Kaspall is literally the best and only good thing to come from the furry fandom
>>92368028
4chan /b/ - If you draw loli porn we WILL find it. Fap to it, and then embarrass you with it.
>>92367677
comic name/source
>>92366262
That's.... Super fucked up, to be honest
>>92365701
someone else can explain it better but the long and short of it is: he's a pedophile and deleted everything when it came out
>>92367114
It wasn't just a moment. He has a whole series of women secret agents getting raped, murdered, acid melted, shot, dismembered, choked, plungeoned, you name it. He actually gets paid to draw all those. I think someone found out about it after he drew that comic about the assassin's creed producer
>>92366262
What kind of idiot thought this was a good idea to do? You inconvenienced her for an afternoon, and now she'll have even more "validation" that she's a victimized minority being attacked by the oppressive patriarchy.
>>92361458
Bob and George was not shitty.

The only thing I remember about that guy is how he tried to fuck basically every girl who became associated with the site. I assume one of those girls was an underager and Psy was like, well the dick wants what the dick wants.
What was the webcomic where the creator was this Christian fundamentalist and used to rant about people drawing porn comics not being real comic artists. He used to go to cons and he'd split rooms with female webcomic artists telling them "oh it's okay, nothing will happen I'm a Christian". And then when they were asleep he'd go to the end of their beds and pull back the blankets and fap on their feets and take pictures of his dick with their cum covered feet in the background. Then at one convention one of the girls whose feet he was fapping on woke up just as he cummed on her and freaked out.
He started apologizing and blaming Satan for preying on his weakness. She didn't press charges but she kicked him out of the room and when news of what he did got out he ended up deleting his comic and disappearing from the internet.
>>92368759
Wasn't it Tim Buckley who wrote some under aged girl's name on his dick and sent her a picture of it?
Reminder that this shit got a solid ending after a good long run.
>>92340268
Oh fuck, I remember this. It gets pulled in like ten directions with no real point, has a variety of bullshit characters and even does the whole crossover thing with a few comics long since dead.
>>92345509
>hidden gems
nah.
>>92368840
No creator drama, no genuinely bad story arcs, no dip in quality... and the creator properly ended it as he transitioned into a legit career writing published comics.
>>92334851
I thought it was because his brother got killed, which sucked the motivation out of him.
>>92349181
Shit, someone else read this? Fuck me.
>>92339523
>>92331308
>>92344349
I cannot fucking believe I remember this.
There was a webcomic in the early 2000s where the creator tried to commit suicide by swerving his car into an 18 wheeler but his car bounced off it and ended up hitting a mini van killing the family inside. The guy ended up living but went to prison. He said he was going to try and continue his comic from prison but never did. What was that one?

You understand that the tranimal beast is lying and/or exaggerating, right?
How was Riceboy?
>>92367031
I have a book of that.
I should probably commit it to the ritual pyre.
>>92369076
Riceboy was great. Order of Tales was pretty good.
Vattu is ongoing and, frankly, is also great.
So Endling works for Wayforward now? Thats great
>>92369146
I remember loving it when I read it. Anyone still remember Alien loves Predator?
cheap thrills the only non comedy/dramatic slice of life webcomic i loved
and of course it stopped updating on a cliffhanger
>>92368416
how is that embarrassing?
it's still going. the artist had a really cartoony style going on back when it started, but everything seems to have taken a grim turn in just the right way
>>92339523
I was never a Bob but I fucking loved Life of Riley!!

Zebra Girl really ended up blowing me away especially with that rocky start. I hate that it only updates once a week though.
>>92369522
still very interested to see where this goes after the vampire outbreak arc. also forgot a page
Anyone remember Tang's Weekly Comic and T.A. Vision?
>>92369433
I guess if you're making a mainstream comic like Megatokyo and you don't want people to know you draw loli porn.
>>92340268
Fucking College Roomies from Hell, I remember binge reading that over a month like 10 years ago and wondering what the fuck was going on.
>>92370409
HOLY FUCK ITS STILL GOING

Okay m8
>>92362735
>all the shit Psyguy did behind the scenes
Everyone knew. Even lurkers knew. It wasn't a secret.
Nobody came out and said anything about it until everyone grew up, because most people moved on and forgot about that site and the diehards didn't mature until they were well into their mid-20's. It snowballed because EVERYONE knew and had a side to tell.
>>92370112
Fred-chan had it coming for taking a holier than thou attitude towards hentai. Did the Chugsworth guy ever say anything against hentai?
>>92332287
>Wonder what it is about drawing comics for the computer that makes you wanna turn into a girl?
I think it's about bunch of friendless losers who watch too much cartoon porn deciding that their life would be much better if they were cute lolis or shotas/yaoi boys and then they act the fantasy.
And if/when life doesn't magically get better we get the rabid angry tumblr bloggers who hate everything and everyone.
>>92367195
>stage select: when masters attack
Wow, a second person who have read that.
I should go and fetch that Forte's hair joke from the archive.org.

Probably the best webcomic ever made
>>92335175
I'm worried about Dan's wellbeing. Starting from several years back, the comics began to show everything is not all right. And it was steadily going worse.
How's the dude in real life? Is he ok?
The three webcomics I read that have ended or no longer read?
ENDED
A Miracle of Science (kinda weaboo, but it was okay)
Queen of Wands (slice of life about some women)
STOPPED
Girl Genius (I'll check on it every once in a while, but I gave up when they were still on Namek for 3 years (the castle))
>>92373847
>Queen of Wands
The author died, anon.
>>92373847
They got out of the castle a while back.
>>92373994
Aeire died? How long ago was that?
Minus.
I will forever regret not picking up a book when they were offered. The website isn't even up anymore. I think there's a mirror hosted somewhere, but still...
