The current dramatic tension is the removal of Billie from Ruth's dorm wing. The preview panel for August 6th shows that even if Billie is removed immediately, it isn't as if she wouldn't be allowed back into the dorm.

Also, I just realized. What if Ruth ends up cutting her own hair out of some forced symbolic gesture that this is her coming of age moment? Y'know, one of THOSE moments in all the movies where the main character breaks free from the shackles of oppression and is like "fuck you, i won't do what you tell me" but since it's a female it's set to Alanis Morrisette or something.

Positions on a college campus are rather limited in terms of scope. An RA position is one that involves leadership, being in charge of people, etc. You also don't have to pay for your room, so if he's a penny-pincher (which I bet he is), that would make sense as a motive.

I can't think of many more college jobs that grant as much authority. Most of them are food-related jobs or working at a desk.

It is a very, very demanding job, and most employers will be impressed by the dedication it takes to be an RA, especially if you're going for a leadership position. Being an RA actually requires sensitivity training and a lot of other important procedures, and they are trained for a lot of stuff before they're even allowed to work with their students.
