It feels like they are establishing that the gods gain power through blood. The open for E1 used it, Anansi used it a little less explicitly, and Chernabog mentioned it directly.

Hopkins was an awful choice for Odin, miscasting resulting in a complete miss of the accurate characterization of the god.

Brian Blessed should have been Odin. His Hawkman from Flash Gordon *is* Odin. He is loud, he is vain and proud, he is fun-loving even when shit is hitting the fan. Making Odin dour is the Snyderization of the character and it works just about as well as it did for turning Supes into a moody, dark hero.

Hopkins doesn't need to act in this film. He just needs to be a bit gruff and he gets a fat paycheck. Lots of big name actors like to join comicbook movies because they're usually very secure roles, equating to decent paychecks so they can devote the rest of their time tomore creative/indie stuff.
