ITT: Brilliant twists
BEST TWIST OF ALL TIME
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0J34QnVhYNU
The best there is
>>92259922
yeah, good comic and remember white people are evil and must to be exterminated.
>>92260096
>Fixer
>Screaming Mimi
>Masters of Evil
>>92260141
Captain America was too much of a mary sue. Now he is believable.
>>92259922
The status quo NEVER recovered.
>>92260096
Yeah this could never happen today it would be leaked either on purpose or "accidentally" months ahead of time. People forget this was an actual surprise virtually no one saw coming
The Tale of the Dead Man.
Trifecta also had a really good one.
>>92259922
>>92260096
Spencer can deliver
>>92260657
This is what events should be. I can't believe the last couple CW2 issues were used to set up Secret Empire.
>caring about "plot twists" that will be retconned in matter of months
>>92259922
There's Caps in the walls.
Bender is the evil Bender
>>92260702
everyone else go home, you can't top this one
>try the blue one
>>92260702
This is probably the best.
>>92263824
This was good as well.
I remember thinking about what if the guy wasnt blind a page before.
>>92262810
can you give the context for this image please ? or where its from.
>>92259922
Yeah, who could have seen that coming?
>>92264581
Grant Morrison's Batman and Robin were Dick Grayson took over after Bruce's death. Oberon Sexton is an English (IIRC) detective who came to Gotham. However it becomes clear he's hiding something and his identity is one of the core mysteries of the run and there's a ton of clues which unfold into an awnser both obvious in retrospect and completely unexpected. He's the Joker
>>92262810
Not really.
>HENH
Fuck me.
>>92260657
Hell yeah.
So glad to be caught off guard by it.Hydra Cap would be equal had it not been spoiled, but the fact that it wasn't until days before release is still impressive.
>>92259922
someone please explain this to me because without context this looks like the asspull of all asspulls
what next is fucking magneto gonna join too
>>92265286
Magneto is an ally of Hydra. He worked with them before.
>>92263824
It was red, doofus.Man, what a twist though.
>>92265286
Red Skull cosmic cubed Cap Hydra.
But apparently he was always Hydra and was a spy helping the nazi war effort, but then the allies needed cosmic cubethemselves a victory in WW2 (which makes very little sense) and Cap was retconned into not being Hydra, but Skull's cubing undid that.
Its a massive asspull Spencer's doing for controversy bucks.
>>92259922
Captain America is a Nazi
Magneto is a Nazi
Dick Grayson is a Nazi
Who the fuck isn't a Nazi these days?
Can't believe this hasn't been posted yet
>>92265531
SPEEEEENCEEEEEEERRRRR
>>92265394
literally WHAT?
>>92265582
>Dick Grayson is a Nazi
Wait what?
>>92265589
What is the context here? Please explain.
>>92260096
I think Spencer might've come the closest to beating T-Bolts. The shitstorm you guys!
Spencer got lucky because Rebirth got all the spoiler coverage
>>92265610
>literally WHAT?
Yeah it's weird but Mags doesn't hate Nazis enough to avoid working with them. He just pretends to.
>>92265619
you're expecting a typical hero/villain interaction where he explains his big plan then the heroes stop it, unfortunately for the heroes Ozymandias isn't an idiot so he doesn't explain his masterplan until he's already enacted it
So boom, the 'villain' wins and Watchmen subverts the fuck out of comic book superheroes
>>92265661
>the 'villain' wins
They can't stop him?
>>92260096
>dank cell
TOP KEK
>>92265616
Upcoming elseworld where he genocides Supers.
>>92265675
nope, he's already done the thing, basically nuked a city thousand of miles away
>>92265582
Donald Trump?
>>92265675
ha
not only does he get away with it, hekills the only remaining super (and his former collegue) that won't agree to keep what he did a secret (because it was all for the "greater good")
the only thing that MIGHT vindicate what he did is thatRorschach, the guy he killed, sent his journal filled with evidence against him to a newspaperbut it's basically a right wing tabloid so who knows if anyone will ever believe it
>>92265718
>>92265811
So what happens next? The heroes just kind of go home since they failed?
>>92265837
Pretty much, except for Rorschach.
>>92265837
They agree to work with Ozymandias, who claims that the nuke was for the greater good, Rorschach is having nothing of it and tries to go tell people about what Ozy did, only to be gibbed by Dr. Manhattan
not joking, after a whole issue about a delusional alcoholic it was fucking great
>>92259922
BOOM
BIG REVEAL
>>92265690
That wasn't really a twist though.
Then again, Marvel being useless (or Hopeless amirite) with new characters isn't exactly a twist either.
>>92265675
Unless you know how to unexplode-and-psychic-mind-rape a city and its population, probably not.
To add to that anon's point it's not just the imminence of the event that's harrowing, but the fact if you go through the issues again you'll see cues of Veidt's plan building in the background while the heroes are coming to terms with each other, that plus the ticking clock at the end of each issue makes it very ominously clear the looming inevitability of "a bomb dropping". It was quite literally only a matter of time before they realized how fucked they were.
>>92265837
Watchmen was interesting because they were really realistic about the kind of people who would become vigilantes and fight crime; in that they were almost all stubborn, violent egomaniacs with god complexes and a self righteous sense of morality
the only two decent supers are smart and strong but they're no match for a legitimate rich genius villian with great publicity (plus Ozy has a literal God on his side)
they chew him out but bitterly acknowledge that they don't stand a chance against him and cut ties and just basically go home and I think pretty much give up on being supers after that
>>92265988
>Unless you know how to unexplode-and-psychic-mind-rape a city and its population, probably not.
Why not just beat the guy up and have him confess?
>>92266037
that doesn't really accomplish anything, and might even lead to a nuclear war
>>92266037
Adorable, but no..
Everyone's reeling from nightmarish images and paranoia.
Beating up and accusing the one man the public eye has only ever seen funnel his funds, connections and genius clarity towards rising humanity out of darkness before and after the blue demi-god psychologically and physical left the people to their fate would achieve less than nothing.
The tension from all the conflict, conspiracy and sabotage atop the recent incident would absolutely guarantee nukes fly now that the rest of the world knows for a fact America not once with Manhattan, but twice now with Veidt have absolutely too much gun and zero safety on the trigger.
The time to beat the bad guy was around Comedian's death, but the one guy who suspected anything went and told the suspect of his suspicions.
>>92266037
Ozy convinced Dr.Manhattan (a living God pretty much) that he was doing the right thing and since in this universe he single-handily won the Vietnam war it's safe to say two average people (in that they had no superpowers) didn't stand a chance against him and they all knew it
and seeing howDr.Manhattan explodes Rorschach for not agreeing to keep the secret they knew damn well that they were willing to kill them if it came down to itso they just really angrily begrudgingly went home
>turn the page
>do it slave
>>92263824
finding Spot's corpse being used as basically a battery was pretty great too.
>>92265690
fuck that entire series. I miss Avengers Academy so much.
>>92265619
are there seriously people on this board who haven't read Watchmen
>That episode of King of the Hill whereHank has been a charcoal fan the whole time
>>92266308
I dunno if I'd call this a twist
>>92266469
Yes me
>>92266279
>>92266295
Why didn't Manhattan just solve everything? Or maybe put Rorschach into a box instead of killing him?
>>92266863
maybe you should read it before asking people to explain the entire plot to you
>>92266873
Where can I read it? Is it worth reading?
>>92266895
it's probably on viewcomic or readcomiconline. Or check your local library. Or you canbuy it.
and yes, it is worth reading
is this like your first time interacting with a comics community or something?
>>92266951Yes. I don't read comics. I just come here for memes.
>>92266863
>solve everything
Solve human nature?
The propensity of which is never agreeing on everything?
>>92266895
Where can I read it?
Go to a bookstore or library or something. I dunno, an anon once storytimed the entirety of it here along with detailing and discussing but that's long ago and no archive I know retains things that long.
>Is it worth reading?
Depends on what you usually read.
>>92266973
then go read some comics and don't come back until you do
>>92266995
You are an agent of Hydra. Why should I do anything you say?
Besides I read Sinestro Corps War that one time.
>>92266994
>Solve human nature?
No I mean just take away the nukes. The governments of America and Russia are just big whiny babies without their weapons.
>Depends on what you usually read.
I don't read anything anymore.
>>92267074
from why understanding and without spoiling anything lets just say manhattan FUCKED UP and Ozy comes by at the time he's feeling most vulnerable and convinces him that helping will make up for everything bad he ever did
>>92267228
stop spoonfeeding
What's with all the spoonfeeding in this thread?
>>92265772
For me, that was the real series finale.Patrick was a gorilla the whole time, SpongeBob is broken in two for good and it's all revealed to be a wacky cartoon.Brings a tear to my eye every time.
>>92260141
>and must to be exterminated
It seems they "must to be" sent back to school, also.
>>92265589
How the fuck is that a twist, moore and gibbons showed him building that plan all the way since the beginning and being evil as fuck.
>>92268455
the twist is that he enacted the plan before the heroes could stop him, you monkey
>>92265702
Tell me more..
>>92268609
Upcoming elseworld where he genocides Supers. And then sees the error of his ways and tries to save them
>>92268564
That's not a plot twist, you donut. Everything went according to keikaku.
>>92268710
yes it is, you donkey. It takes the expectations brought on by narrative conventions of the genre and radically subverts them unexpectedly. It's the definition of a plot twist.
>>92267458
Go back to /a/.
Rick finds out Jaka didn't have a miscarriage, she had an abortion
>>92259922
>>92268834
there's recommendation threads then there's explaining the entire plot of Watchmen to some retard who hasn't read it
I liked the original twist that he wasn't a man that became a plant but a plant that thought he was a man
Shame the new 52 fucked up hard and pretty much killed the original Swamp Thing and replaced him with a completely different character. Fucking bullshit
>>92269083
Is this Identity Crisis or Gay for Justice
>>92269083
I'm confused. Why is this a twist?
>>92268769
That's just subversion of expectations, not a plot twist. Nothing unexpected happened, it just happened at a different time.
>>92269235
The dutch marine.
>>92269323
it was unexpected that his plan actually succeeded due to genre conventions
>>92269345
I get it, but the plan itself wasn't unexpected. I don't think that counts as a plot twist.
>>92269371
holy shit no one is saying the plan is the twist, you absolute mongoloid
>>92269161
>pretty much killed the original Swamp Thing and replaced him with a completely different character. Fucking bullshit
but they did literally that. the plant thought that he was a man, was a literal second character in the story
>>92269386
Then there's no twist. Are you one of those shortbus kids?
>>92269435
The twist is that the plan succeeded, try and follow along like someone with a fully-functioning brain.
>>92269416
I read through his entire new 52 run a few weeks back and it made it very clear that he was Alec Holland with a plant for a body instead of a different person entirely.
>>92260702
Grant Morrison is a hack.
>>92269161
That was done during brightest day. Johns is a hack who has to revert everything.
>>92269478
the blue swamp thing was "alec holland" the parliament made and was the plant that believed he was a man. whats more that while alec is the avatar of the green, "alec" has powers over life, not just green (in that future story villans arc, i cant remember the name, it was that one with the holo covers)
like most new52 stuff, they went the "its all canon now, unless we say it isnt", but they took it literally. the old stories are about the blue swamp thing, the new ones are about the real alec.
>>92269675
Okay yeah but what i'm saying is that's bullshit. I don't give a fuck about the real Alec. Hes not the character I grew to enjoy from the 80s run. Hell Alec was shown fucking off in heaven during that run so that still doesn't explain anything.
>muh reboot
Yeah but it was dumb as hell
Plus wait that makes no sense anyways since Alec hooks up with new death based Abby (which was also pretty dumb desu)
>>92269786
i dunno, i see where your coming from, but i personally liked it.
it was a different character (which 52 did to nearly everyone one way or another) but they actually wrote in why he was acting and doing things differently and on top of that they wrote in the old character in what i feel was a good way.
i definitely agree with the abby change, but i guess it was a nice way to feel with the kingdoms (and tie in animal man). they obviously cut out and change alot that happened in the 80's, but it was one of the series that had a better reboot. since it was the new52 as well, the options were either a good reboot, or nothing at all, and ill take the story (for the most part) that we got
>>92269989
I guess but it left a really bad taste in my mouth. I don't think I would have been as negative towards it if they had used a different name or if Abby hadn't shown back up because I could just have imagined whatever I want since his stuff actually did have a pretty definite end.
Also speaking of animal man I just finished the non-52 run of that and is it pretty much agreed that the comic ended like shit? I had to struggle to finish it near the end because holy shit it got bad. Is the New 52 run worth reading? I don't care if they retcon the fuck out of Animal Man since his character was a fucking mess anyways
>>92270147
>Also speaking of animal man I just finished the non-52 run of that and is it pretty much agreed that the comic ended like shit?
i presume you're talking about his actual story, and not "animal man in spess" comics. yeah, it just wasnt... much of anything great is the best i can say about it.
>Is the New 52 run worth reading? I don't care if they retcon the fuck out of Animal Man since his character was a fucking mess anyways
yes if you liked the idea of the new universe swamp thing made (obviously they tied together alot pre rotworld) it has alot of the same themes just presented in a new way (he's still a stuntman/actor, his family is in danger/important to him, stuff like that) maxine is ALOT more important in the story, and the rest of his family is still alright, just they get less screen time after a while. they even add some space stuff (that will never be referenced again, like EVER)
if you dont like the new domains of the red rot and green though, and the ensuing new art direction/style, since i think... 100% of his villians are connected to in some way, you wont like it as much as you could
>>92270480
>presume you're talking about his actual story, and not "animal man in spess" comics.
Yeah I don't actually know what you mean by him in space.
I didn't mind the new universe I just didn't like that my Swampy was pretty much deadguess this is how superdad fans felt but at least they got him backI don't care nearly as much since after that time he was a really awesome bird monster he kind of became really boring and tried too hard to be deep. I'll check it out
>>92270570
Don't care as much about Buddy I mean
>>92270147
Lemire's run is a thousand times better than the last garbage run you're talking about. The one where Buddy becomes some sort of hippie cult leader or some shit, right? Yeah, that was terrible. If you liked Delano's Animal Man, you'll like Lemire's.
>>92267074
>I don't read anything anymore.
Yeah I could tell
>>92270650
Cool
>itt: no twists, just surprising moments
>>92270570
>>92270638
in countdown to final crisis, him, adam strange, and starfire are stuck in space for a long time, and just fuck around. /co/ refrenced it alot in any thread related to starfire, because she is naked in front of them, and buddy is just sitting there missing his wife
id read the first mini arc through travel formans work, because i think when he leaves is when rotworld ends, so if you've read (and somewhat disliked) swamp thing, it'll at least be closure for that run
imo animal man was superior to swamp thing, but swamp thing had more cool scenes at the end, and it ran for much longer. animal man was just good throughout pretty much all of its shorter run, but it ended in a good spot (barring that one space related plot point that is pretty much a filler issue)
>>92270765
that's 52
>>92270789
Its cool I got what he meant when he said rotworld.
>>92270765
and yeah i'm going to read it. I liked the core idea of animal man it just got really fucking bad near the end but if what >>92270650 said is true then it should be all good
>>92270820
no, the countdown to final crisis thing is actually from 52
>>92270789
52 is in space? then is countdown when starfire lives with them? i dont remember which is which
>>92270820
52 is a separate thing than the new52, i think thats where the animal man in space thing was from then, not countdown
new52 is what i was talking about otherwise
>>92270877
52 is mostly in space, they make it back to Earth towards the end
Starfire kickstarts Buddy's son's puberty
>>92270850
oh alright
I didn't actually get into DC comics until a few months ago when rebirth started and am just now reading my way through some of the older stuff.Right now i'm reading through 80s Superman and its fun
>>92270877
I'll take your word for it
>>92266863
Manhattan is a fucking dick. I like to think that when he left earth he met a cosmic entity much more powerful than him and he was killed effortlessly. Fitting end for him.
>>92265640
That has got to be one of the dumbest twists I've ever heard.
Also Mags is a mutant supremacist. Doesn't Hydra hate mutants? Shouldn't they have literally no goals in common?
>>92273068
he's not actually working for Hydra (that we know of, anyway), it was just a variant cover
unless something happened in today's releases that I missed
