Not as bad as you would think. the 2012 film allows for familiar props that have already been designed and manufactured. plus with the setting being noticeably dark and gritty the studio can save money by putting most of the action in the back alley of some random studio.

me, personally; I'm hoping for at least one cameo of Stallone's "Dredd" somewhere. Maybe the face on the statue of Justice or perhaps the man himself as Chief Justice or former Chief Justice. Hell if they stick close to the source material they could even have Stallone be the original Judge that the system is based off of.

Also, please be aware that I have heard no rumors about Stallone being involved in this in any way shape or form; I just really want the Stallone dread to be acknowledged.

Oh my god, fuck up. The story of Dredd lambasts the fascist police state he lives in and casts a critical eye on it often. It works on multiple levels because you have to accept the actions of the Judges, even enjoy them, without agreeing with them moralistically. While this is exciting news, keep in mind this is not an official green-light. The article even says that "no network is officially attached".

There is the possibility that no network or streaming service will be interested, and hence, the show won't happen.

If this does, however, manage to get picked up by HBO/Starz/Netflix/Amazon/etcetera, then it's almost guaranteed to be awesome. But if some crappy network channel or low-end cable channel gets it, it will likely suck and be cancelled after one or two seasons.

So while I'm excited to see where this will potentially go, I'm keeping my expectations at a minimum until more news is announced.

If this lands on a shitty network channel, then it'll be exactly what happened with Almost Human; a shitty run-of-the-mill police drama with sci-fi elements, that wastes all the amazing potential and gets canceled after one season.

The Dredd movie had a very down-to-earth feel and tone to it. There was no massive Blade Runner-esque city or flying cars. If anything, it was a "20 Minutes into the Future" type scenario, where it was mild sci-fi and not too futuristic or over-the-top.

AMC is known for letting its show-runners have creative freedom, but they're also known to be penny-pinchers.

I have no idea about FX, but I imagine they'd be okay.

HBO is known for both big budgets and creative freedom.

Starz is the same as HBO in both regards.

Again, you have to consider violence, swearing, sex, and overall content.

Premium channels and streamers don't have to worry about any of this stuff.

True, but once you show people a literal wall studded with enough firepower to wipe out the surrounding city blocks all designed to keep the mutants out of Mega City One they aren't going to pay much attention to stuff like the Helltrekkers. Especially once you get into stuff like mutants who are born in the city being deported.
Then again, considering Dredd's soft spot for the plight of mutants they could spin that into a way to humanize him without having to get into a story about the democracy movement. That would be better saved for later (a second season ideally) so it has an appropriate impact when you realize Mega City One really is a dictatorship
