In Germany, there is no "Captain America"

The same thing in Russia. The first one was just First Avenger, TWS became First Avenger: Another (kind of) War, and CW was First Avenger: Showdown.

>>
>>92235641

Not surprising.

Nobody outside of America gives a shit about Captain AMERICA.

That's be like trying to market a character named Captain Uruguay in the USA and wondering why he isn't catching on.
>>
>>92235641
>>92235988
>>92236122

Also factor in that American people are globally unpopular. Most Americans when travelling abroad have to tell people that they're Canadian so they'll be treated well.

Not surprising they had to downplay connections to America when marketing the movie in Europe and elsewhere.

Pic related should be mandatory reading in American schools.

You know it'd have been neat if the MCU used all of those in the original titles, like Invincible Iron Man and so on.
I guess pic related is to blame.

Yeah because you read the comics.

Normies see the name Captain AMERICA and they think it's stupid. USA is pretty hated in Europe, it would be like trying to sell a character named Captain Russia in America.

When I was studying abroad in England I couldn't say "good morning" to someone without them launching into a dissertation about everything wrong with Americans and why they hate the USA like I was the goddamn Complaint Department or something.

I got so sick of it that yeah, about a month in I just went the "lol I'm Canadian bro" route and they would rattle off an "oh, cheers mate. But fuck those Americans, amirite!?"

>>
>>92236439
That's pretty shitty.

I'm from Yurop and America is pretty hated around these parts, I think people have a hard time separating politicians/American politics from average American people. I visited USA twice and people there were honestly some of the friendliest I've ever met, it was borderline uncomfortable how welcoming and nice they were. Now I'm always kinda mad when people start going on rants about how all Americans are dumb and terrible because I saw first-hand that it's not true. Every country has their crazies.

The strangest case in Russia were Amazing Spider-man movies.

They called it New Spider-man so that dumb fucks wouldn't confuse with Raimi's Spider-man.

Then the sequel got a subtitle, New Spider-man: High Voltage, probably to promote fucking rap song. That has nothing to do with the movie.

Most Disney and Pixar movies in Japan get "Character Name and the X" titles.

Meet the Robinsons is "Lewis and the Future Thief"

Frozen is "Anna and the Snow Queen"

Brave is "Merida and the Fearsome Forest"

Up is "Grandpa Carl's Flying House"

Nobody really *likes* Canada though, they're mostly indifferent to it.
For all the apparent hate the US get, a lot of it has to do with their cultural hegemony, notably their national news being broadcasted everywhere, calling attention to every retarded shit that happens in their country.
Cultural leaders always have that issue, even on a smaller scale. Here in French-speaking Switzerland the French are hated to an astounding level, and part of that has to do with people here consuming French media and hearing about every retarded shit that happens in France. Most people here couldn't name a German politician other than Hitler or Merkel (maybe Bismark), but they could probably name about 40 French politicians easily.

Unrelated, but the first time I visited America I went to Philadelphia. Was eating cheesesteak at one of those famous places and a lady from Texas started talking to me and my cousin while we were eating.

I remember my first thought was "holy shit, this lady talks just like in those cowboy movies!", for some reason I found it surreal that I was hearing the southern accent in real life. That was my first "huh I'm actually in the USA" moment.

When I have to go to Wales (lol) for work-related business, I tend to get the earful about how rude Americans are and how stupid the USA is and so on and so on. I'm numb to it and just give an "uh huh" while they rattle off their list of complaints about us.

But what I've noticed is that whenever someone mentions that they've been to America and that all the Americans there are rude, I ask them "Where in America did you go?"

>New York City

Like, every time. New York City. Exclusively. Makes sense, seeing as how NYC is America's #1 international tourist destination, but fuck. Even Americans think New Yorkers are rude shitheads.

If that's your only impression of Americans during your once-in-a-lifetime trip to our country, I'm not surprised you think we're all complete assholes.
>>
>>92237136
oh, but i mean it still sounds cool, i mean in any language i think winter is understood and the context of a soldier of winter, meaning cold/snow/final whatever winter is usually depicted as would seem cool. idk. i don't know other languages besides english and spanish, in spanish soldado del invierno, sounds creepy. oh and in french soldat d'hiver which i guess that works too.
>>
>>92237177
He is called that in russian dub. it's just that our translators are very much retarded. Sometimes they translate a double meaning title literally, loosing any and all sense, and sometimes replace it completely so that no original meaning is even left to make it more obvious, like Hangover became Bachelor Party in Vegas, for instance. I have stopped seeing translated movies a long time ago.
>>

It's so annoying how every normie European's dream is to visit New York City (same way I imagine for lots of Americans and Paris). The rest of the country seems a lot more interesting to me.
I think it's seen as sort of an achievement, as "making it"... and you know what Sinatra used to say about making it in New York.

Their passion for Australia though, I have no clue where they got that. I've gotten into arguments with people (plural) whose dream was to travel to Australia.

Norway here, we all hate Americans and mostly for these reasons:

-Their inability to shut up about god, which makes them sound delusional and unenlightened
-Their laziness and fatness, which makes them look inferior to us
-Their glorification of violence, particularly guns, which makes them seem barbaric

In other words, the "average joe" American disgusts us. We still love the intellectual and creative side of the country though - NASA, Hollywood, Disney etc are looked up to as idols.

Names always have to be changed in Brazil because anything with the syllable "cu" is synomymous with "asshole", and we are reall monkeys. For example:
Aku is "Abu" here.
Sith Odias, is literally "fucks himself"
Panaka , is idiot
Utapau, is like Utadick
Count Dooku is like "Count like to take in the ass"
Personally, I think some brazilian jerk worked with George Lucas, and had a lot of fun creating this shitty names for a inside joke.

>I went to London, and everyone was a twat

Fixed that for you anon. Living in London is pretty shitty, it eventually turns everyone into a wanker. Using a car is impossible, prices are absolutely stupid, people are being classed out of living there, the public transport (with the exception of buses in areas) is heavily flawed, and people genuinely believe muslims cause no go zones. Muslims cause chicken shops and overly loud family arguments on the tube, cocaine dealers and users cause no go zones.

Add this to the fact that the North West dislikes London because the latter is a funding black hole while the former had to be bombed by the Irish for the appropriate government money to be used on infrastructure, and the rest of the country hates it because 'muh EU loving yuppies', means London doesn't have a good rep.

I never see the appeal of New York. I've been to a lot of East Coast cities and Charleston, SC was the only one that wowed me. Mainly because Sherman didn't torch it and you'd see these 3 story block long mansions everywhere from the 1830's. Food was great, too. Beautiful, beautiful city. They do have all these horse tours and crap everywhere, but it's a neat town.

>Yeah, that's not how that works.
It is. You'll be asked why you don't just drop out of the class and take a different one. Or you'll be told to stop causing trouble and that the professor was probably not being serious.

>Pretty sure a tenure doesn't protect you from illegally and openly discriminating
The problem there being what makes it illegal? If you go to a "liberal" school there is an expectation of a particular perspective being present. Without being able to demonstrate a clear line between the statement and the grading the school would probably fall towards the cheaper alternative of allowing the student to drop the class with a full refund. Which still sets you back as a student and, if the specific course is required, makes it impossible to proceed without transferring.

There is nothing expressly illegal happening in the hypothetical.

That's new.

"I was merely pretending to be retarded" is not a defense that holds up in court.
>>
>>92254833
Why would it go to court? And why wouldn't it hold up. You'd have to prove, after he said that, he failed a student for that reason. And if it wasn't a multiple choice based class (in regards to assignments) then it that would be tough to do.

Because if it did then literally nobody would be condemned for verbal harrasment or hate speech, they could just go "it was a joke lmao".
>You'd have to prove, after he said that, he failed a student for that reason.
I'd think the professor stating that he would fail him for that reason is proof enough. Although I guess someone cross-examinating the grades the professor gave to show that the assignments weren't worthy of a failing grade would help.

Like if I tell you I won't hire you because you're a Muslim and I don't hire you, I'm pretty sure I can't just then go "well he just wasn't right for that job, I was just joking about the Muslim thing".

You're especially wrong here. Not only are both of those defended to a point they're also completely unrelated to this case. We're talking about an action, not the words. Words are not proof.

>Actually we are talking about the motivation behind the action
You are, yes. And you shouldn't be. The provable connection between what he said and how he acted is all that matters. Motivation doesn't matter unless you're trying to differentiate potential suspects.

Motivation in a court is at best circumstantial.

Also, you keep on bringing up the concept of "HA i was joking." They don't have to prove they were joking, or serious, or making a point. They just have to maintain that you have no proof there is a connection.

>>92255464
recourse meaning they have to go to court and prove it was ONLY because they were a protected class. which would mean they need to prove a direct link. Without written proof it's word vs word.

>>
>>92255735
Except discrimination cases hinge heavily on motivation. That's literally all they are about: proving that the action was taken for illegitimate reasons.
You're just saying you need to prove that motivation is related to the action.

Again, cross-examination of the failed assignments seems like a possibility, although I have no idea whether that's ever been used in court.

Witnesses or recordings (for instance if the professor said that in class, which can be recorded) can also come into play to corroborate one version or the other.

Is all that matters. If it doesn't show a clear bias then there is no case. You seem to think anything else would come in to play. What susan from the second row of the lecture has to say about it matters not.

Also, beside the fact that nobody has recorded a professor since the 80s, recordings are NOT blanketedly allowed. The professor has to give consent, especially in a two-party-consent state. In that case the recording party could actually be held accountable in a counter-suit regardless of the veracity of their claim.

Actually you mentioned "cross-examinating the grades", as retarded as that is, being helpful after saying a statement is "proof enough".

Not only is that not the correct phrase its also completely different that my assertion that what you find as being "helpful" is actually all that matters.

>What about when Professor Dickbag...
The when should be an if but:

They'd still have to prove he said it. You seem to think anyones word is taken just because they give testimony. A witness can say they watched a person kill someone and it isn't "proof". You still need to prove they did.

Now, because this would be a civil case, not criminal, the burden of proof is actually lower. But it still remains. Which is why any lawyer would tell you to settle for a full refund.

>Patently wrong. Some colleges literally record the classes themselves.
MIT and Harvard posting a few lectures is them posting content that was both cleared by the professor and by the university. Also, the act of recording being agreed upon by one party does not invite the recording from all parties.

>recordings are NOT blanketedly allowed
You said classes can be recorded. You never specified the extent of the allowance. as such you made a blanket statement. So yes, you did claim they were allowed.

>They'd still have to prove he said it. You seem to think anyones word is taken just because they give testimony. A witness can say they watched a person kill someone and it isn't "proof". You still need to prove they did.
Several witsnesses with the same story are usually pretty good.

>MIT and Harvard posting a few lectures is them posting content that was both cleared by the professor and by the university.
Which somehow means that those that aren't cleared for publishing haven't been recorded?

>You said classes can be recorded. You never specified the extent of the allowance.
Are you honestly going to criticize my English after assuming that "can" means "always are allowed"?
At least it isn't my native language.

Your argument is half semantics at this point.
>>
>>92256918
>Your argument is half semantics at this point.
Pretty much to demonstrate that non-criminal cases are essentially semantic debates in the united states.

I actually assumed you were canadian or british if we're being honest. But specifics matter when talking about blanket statements. Knowing english isn't your native language actually strengthens an assumption I would make about being able to interpret united states law.

However, none of this really matters.

The original assertion was that a liberal university would not back a student in their effort to de-seat a tenured professor on the basis of discrimination against a said student based on their conservative/republican identity.

it was said "that's not how it works." I claimed that is how it works and somehow we ended up talking about courts. This completely jumps past the point that in order for the case to be brought to court the school would have to be backing the professor.
>>
>>92255076
>Because if it did then literally nobody would be condemned for verbal harrasment or hate speech, they could just go "it was a joke lmao"

I think this right here is where your misunderstanding came in. Verbal harassment and hate speech are protected in the US.
>>
>>92256918
>You couldn't infer from context

It's also quite clear I did infer what you were saying.

>Which somehow means that those that aren't cleared for publishing haven't been recorded?
They don't record what they haven't cleared. The clearance comes before. Otherwise the very act of recording is the violation of the law.
