JUST

And days ago we were discussing who was more popular, with Jason Todd or Bucky Barnes. Bucky + Thunderbolts sells less than Jason + Bizarro.

Also, I believe Rocket Racoon transitioned into Rocket and Silk has already finished up and been canceled.

The Bucky only issue before #12 sold even lower. His last series under Kot ended at #11 at around 10k so it's not just the art's or the T-Bolts' fault, either.
>>

I think Spider-Man 2099 is ending soon anyway. I figured it would be when they announced that PAD would be writing the new Scarlet Spider series.

It doesn't matter. The MCU is still beating the DCEU to a pulp and by the looks of it their reign will be long as both WW and Justice League are shaping up to be a mess.

I generally like Laura as a character.
And unlike several of her recent appearances her current book gives me no explicit reason not to read it.
So I kept expecting it to become good if it only ever had the right story at some point.
Then some of the stuff he did were things I generally wanted to see from her books at some point. So I thought those stories would end up being more engaging to me than the rest of the book.
But as it turned out that stuff was just as monotone as the rest.

I guess the real question is are they fully funding YA? Let's not forget that Way is probably still rich.

They don't make money off merchandising or movies. It's just that they sell enough to guarantee cost certainty. That 20k sales in one issue is still 60-80k in sales dollars and the total cost of the creative team is like 50k total from their contracts and the cost of printing per issue isn't so bad considering it's millions of issues a month for the big 2. All evens out.

Keep in mind the cancellation was announced in October 2014:

So that means it was at the mid/low 20,000s. There are still people today (likely ones working for Marvel) who keep pushing the claim that "Fantastic Four was definitely canceled due to low sales!" even though by that logic most of their books this year would've already been canceled.

50k a month would be 12.5k each

That would be 150k a year. Do you really think Marvel forks out 150k per person each year? For every book?

That being said, >>92238938 is also wrong

Marvel doesn't get the full enchilada from each comic, since Diamond takes a cut and the LCS takes a cut. All in all, most comic companies get 40-60% of the cover price. Meaning a 20k selling comic makes about 40k-50k, depending whether it's a $4 or $5 comic.

Also, Marvel Entertainment does make merchandising money. He is correct in that they make no money from the movies - that is the domain of Marvel Studios, which is a separate business.

You can't tell me a comic company would drop one of their most iconic franchises and push comics that can't stay alive past a single arc and keep relaunching Captain Marvel. It's not the Mouse. The Mouse doesn't care if FF is cancelled or not. They just want money.

It's Ike Pearlmutter and his autism. He's the one that commissioned the Inhumans movie (now a tv show) and is responsible for their push. He's the one that took down posters of Fantastic Four and X-Men. He's the one that wanted the Inhuman Peanut Cloud to kill Mutants. He's the one that told Disney not to instantly buy the FF movie rights and to wait for it when it's cheaper. Then cancelled the FF comic to try and spite Fox.

If only Stan Lee could consume his soul, things at Marvel would be better.

In any given month both DC and Marvel release between 75 and 90 titles. Some of these are second printings of popular editions (first printings which are still on sale and technically shipping are not counted as new editions). The top 300 as determined by Diamond sales to comic book retailers are therefore largely made up of Marvel and DC - the "big 2". For instance, in March both companies released 92 titles each, for a total of 184 between them.

The same month, Image released 61 titles, IDW 60 titles, Dark Horse 25, and so on and so forth; there were almost 600 new issues shipped by Diamond that month.

This represented a largely average month.

The figures do not include graphic novels/trades released, of which there were over 300, though Marvel and DC together made up just over 20% of this figure, pretty evenly split between them.

Marvel and DC are the only publishers whose new issues almost completely end up inside the top 300 (88 Marvel, 87 DC in March); Image, the next best performer, got under 60% of its titles into the top 300.

The thing to remember in all of this is that retailers are ordering what they think they can sell, and paying about 75% of cover price. Whether they can in fact sell those issues is up to them.

>>92241143
When Steve originally went Nomad it was a commentary on the way Nixon had handled the presidency, and on America's tarnished ideals. It's hard to say now why you'd expect something different - even if you're a full-on lockherup, you're still convinced America is corrupt.

The book, the character, have for a very long time now been used for political commentary. Steve famously won't back political candidates, despite making his own positions abundantly clear; but he turned his back on a president because the office had been corrupted.

I imagine you would have cancelled your subscription at that point.

All I fucking wanted was my man Ted to go on fun BWAHAHA! adventures with Jaime. Instead it's just been Jaime complaining with Ted talking to him over the radio.

I'd say New Super-Man and Cyborg are pretty safe despite the low numbers since DC wouldn't want the headlines of cancelling their main minority books. Plus New Super-Man is getting alot of critical acclaim and is written by a high profile guy they want to keep happy and Cyborg is (for whatever reason) the main minority character DC is trying to push on all fronts.

They gave him Superman and that didn't do too well either. There comes a time when you have to cut your losses.
>>
>>92243403
His Superman was marred by shitty art and being heavily involved with crossover shit. Of course his fans won't be into that. I would wait at least for trade sales before declaring anything for sure.

But probably most importantly NSM is also Jim Lee's idea so it will probably last as long as he cares. And I could see a relaunch with the JLC title at some point before it goes for good.

I actually did like his Supes (up until the Vandal Savage crossover) and New Super-Man, but the guy just doesn't write comics most people are interested in buying. NSM will have at least 14 issues which is very considerate on DC's part.

Believe it or not, a lot of people won't buy a book just cause the character is the same race. Especially black people.

If anything, I would think people aren't buying it because they find the core premise stupid (china makes its own versions of american heroes)

Yeah and? I'm not saying Asian-Americans actively avoid their own race. Just that "these are my people" isn't a strong buying point.

Asians don't buy asian characters because they're asian
Blacks don't buy black characters because they're black
There are some exceptions, and some positive things to be said about having some representation in comics, but it's not a solid customer pull

To be fair, half of the characters in the book also think it's a really stupid idea as well. But having irony like that as your foundation and through line is difficult to keep fresh from month-to-month.

historically, most western anthologies dont sell well. AD2000 does pretty good.

Adopting the manga format and having really low quality anthologies followed by high quality TPBs would be an interesting idea, but too risky for the current companies to try

Correction, over fifty percent of the world's population lives on the Asian continent.

But you're talking about:

Orientals
Indians
Arabs
Malays

Just to name the visually obvious sub-groups that obviously do not identify as the others. I'm from two of those and fuck all do I identify with the other two.

The blanket term "Asian" hurts the concept of diversity in the same way that "White" does.

Yeah in a way some Asians have deep hatred towards other, some are not. Malays got quite fucked up by the Japanese back in those days, but they are not hostile at all for Japanese today (got lots of weeks even).
