No sane adult would believe that a trio of ten year olds had the power to completely destroy a house as thoroughly as the Eds did

I love how, all these years later, I can hear the exact tone of that line. EEnE was amazing.

WHAT HAPPENED TO THE STAIRS?
>>
>>92225430
Thinking back, I feel a lot of people (not you guys, I'm generalizing) don't really talk about how EEnE had a special understanding of how to do their slapstick.

I can't really think on other cartoons that are not old timey theatrical Tom & Jerry where destruction and slapstick felt like it had weight.

One of my favorite examples is in the christmas special when Ed drags the chimney all the way to his room. Every bit of the wall, the entire destruction of the floorboards all the way to him slamming it into his room has just the right amount of crunch and impact that makes your mind really get how hilariously destructive it was.

In a lot of slapstick, thigns breaking feel like props, even inc artoons; Like if breaking a wall was that easy. In EEnE, when someone broke or slammed through a wall or yanked something that should be bolted to the floor out you really felt it.

Not sure if you guys feel the same.
>>
>>92225430
I miss this cartoon. It reminds me how simpler things used to be.

>>
>>92231654
I think it was the subtle things like floorboards bending upwards before breaking and the sounds of it creaking as it was bent before the eventual SNAP. They definitely put a lot of love into that show and I think that's part of what made it so great.

>>
>>92231654
When this show was on the air I did not appreciate it. Mostly due to the fact that it was almost always on (not nearly to the extent that TTG is nowadays, but it was in pretty heavy rotation back in it's time, compared to the other cartoon cartoons...)
But looking back on it, it's got some amazing cartooning behind it. There's an incredible sense of structure and harmony behind the drawings of these characters once you get past that squiggly lumpy drawing style... the framing of some of these scenes have a sense of balance and composition that's actually pretty brilliant. And that's just the art itself, never mind the memorable gags, comic timing and delivery of the show itself.

Yeah, turns out EEnE was a much better show than I ever gave it credit for back in the day when I wrote it off as obnoxious background noise and filler while waiting for the Toonami and Miguzi blocks.

It just gets better with age. Antonucci likes to talk about how animation was back in the day, and how it inspired him, he probably looks at Fleischer cartoons like how we look at EEnE. Makes me wonder what kids growing up today are gonna look back on, what they're gonna think were classics. I'm not even trying to be cynical, I genuinely wonder

I know that EEnE's sound design gets rightfully praised on /co/ a lot, but it's also worth noting that the voice acting was top fucking tier for this show. This line is a really good example of what I mean, you can hear the quiet disgust and annoyance in his voice even though he takes on a monotone after the initial panicked tone in his voice.

EEnE was great because it managed great physical and character. Like >>92231654, the slapstick was some of the best in the past fifteen years, but at the same time, a lot of the characters, and certainly the Eds, were all really well defined. If you just dropped Ed, Double D, and Eddy in a room together, you'd still get laughs out of it from their interactions.

Yeah, I really dig those aspects of it too, but the pacing was definitely a touch sloppier I think, and the voice acting wasn't quite down to the levels it would reach later. It gets kind of nitpicky trying to find flaws in EEnE though, I really don't even mind.

Plus the cars (including that woodstock-esque van in the junkyard), the fashion, the shows, the music/vinyl records, and the technology (there would be at least one cellphone somewhere in that whole neighborhood or some CDs/tape cassettes if it were in the 90s). It seems like they just left the 60s at the latest.

Eddy having disco stuff is deliberately played as if he's hoarding his dad's old junk because he thinks it's cool.

Hell, he probably hauled half of it out of the junkyard.
>>
>>92248721
Most of his shit came from his brother, not his dad. Point is there is no specific decade for the show.
>>
>>92248625
>>92248696
It takes place in the 2000s (well, as far as Big Picture Show confirms). A cup that Eddy uses to listen to the kids outside said "Peach Creek Diner-2000 Best Eater"
>>
>>92248767
Not according to the creator. To him it doesn't take place in any decade.
>>
>>92248792
Correct. They are in purgatory.
>>
>>92248792
Source? I want to know when Antonucci said that, because Big Picture Show says otherwise. It was the last of EEnE we've ever seen, so they wanted to confirm things, be it either out loud or in secret.

>>92248816
That theory is shit.
>>
>>92248837
No, it's not.
>>
>>92248837

>>
>>92248837

>The movie contains proof that the Eds and the other children do live in the 21st century. The cup that Edd uses to listen to the children that are outside of Eddy's Brother's door says, "Peach Creek Diner-2000 Best Eater". This indicates that his brother won the title when he was still living at home and this would lead viewers to logically conclude that the Peach Creek children live in the 21st century.

The show was produced from 1999 to 2006, so it probably takes place between one of those years, pick one.

Note that late 90s-mid 2000s weren't fully immersed in the digital social media world yet, so it should come as no surprise that the kids may have some outdated technology.

Antonucci said that when they were older Ed would run a large corporation, Double D would be a famous scientist that discovered the cure to mosquito bites hue hue, and Eddy would be working at an amusement park. The last one is kinda fucked if you think about it, like Eddy is doomed to follow in his brother's footsteps. Antonucci is kind of an asshole that likes fucking with his fans though, so I don't really think you should take that as an accurate assessment of their future endeavors.
>>

>we see Eddy's brother
>we see the arms of Eddy's dad and Ed's mom

The most immediately glaring issue to that theory is that they peg Jonny to have been from the 20's, when his parents are constantly implied to be hippies of some sort and he makes direct reference to the Beatles at the beginning of the episode where the Eds tell him their Rashomon-style story. There's plenty of other stupid shit to point out, but I remember when it first took off that was the very first thing about it that shouted "bullshit" to me.

They are used to identify you in the family.
I don't know about the rest of the world but in the west (or at least here in America) it is quite common for families to reuse names.
My great grandfather's name was Chris and I am named after him. My sister also share the name one of my ancestors (I forget which ones).
From a legal perspective this would be quite confusing since we would share the same name on all legal documents so they added middle names.
