It's Wakfu. A cartoon Ankama started to promote it's new mmo of the same name but took on a life of it's own.

It's popular on /co/ for many reasons but you have to give the first season some time to pick up as it starts very 'villain of the week' to establish the characters before the main plot kicks in.

The show starts as a Monster of the week with bits of plot mixed in and by the half of the first season you get plot progression and a nice climax at the end. Second season is weaker but still good to watch

Not OP, but I've always ignored discussion on this show.

How much of its popularity here has to do with the typical and inevitable /co/ waifufagging, and how much of it with the actual quality of the show?

I've noticed that there's one scene anons keep pointing out in the "supreme feels" threads on /co/ scenes that made you feel true emotion, something to do with a robot, but besides that it's .gifs of dancing females and general francophone lewdness.

It's equal parts humor, lore and feels for me. Sure, some of the characters are hot, but I wouldn't watch several seasons of a show and keep lurking /co/ for that alone. Despite its western look and origin, it shares a lot of animes' ability to develop substantial overarching plot and take itself seriously at times even though it's more often light-hearted.

I guess it's just harder to post gifs of intricate character development and far-reaching world-building.

The 2nd season is where it starts to get good but season 1 is 99% fillers with some random plots thrown in there. It's really slow and is a show you should watch while doing something else like drawing.

They actually kind of go hand in hand. The artist who designed the characters has this knack for making really attractive characters, not always female. Eva was a hot item from the start but it didn't stop them from making a pretty compelling story. The humor also helps keep it a lighthearted romp through most of the series, all they way until the season climax.

I don't think it's the choice of VAs but the terrible studio Ankama hired for the job. It felt like they just gave the actors a sheet of lines to read out with no direction given, plus they couldn't even mix the audio right.

I can't tell if Ankama were being cheap or they got scammed out of all that kickstarter money.
