I'll tell you the real reason. Canada has laws in place that require Canadian channels to run canadian shows. The food network option of "Proven Hit Show Canada Edition" doesn't work for cartoons, so YTV and friends are stuck with a choice. As a cartoon channel CEO, what would you rather do? Spend a lot of money on a show that may or may not pay it back, or run a cheep crap show to meet legal requirements and not care about the 7 leafbux you spent? God only knows why american channels buy that shit to run though.

The entire show was practically made in Vancouver. Does it need government government money to be considered CanCon now?

Donkey Kong Country sort of.
The Second Season was made by the Chinese.
It's decent and it's got charm.
Songs are cheesy but are still fun to listen to.
All of the episodes for it are on YT, worth a watch I'd say.
>>
>>92243719
It has to follow the Cancon criteria to be considered Cancon, which do not include government money. Even outside of Cancon technicalities, it is most certainly not Canadian because it was animated there, otherwise every American cartoon I can think of right now is actually Korean.
>>
>>92243774
I don't know where you're getting your BS from, but the whole show is Canadian.
>>
>>92243920
Well, it's French-Canadian if anything.
Still Canadian though.
There was also a TV block for DKC on some French channel where there were little skits and advertisements using the DKC characters in between commercials but those were only in French.
Look up DKTV for more info.
>>
>>92231992
>there is no need for competition

That isn't because of "free government money" it's because of lax telecommunications regulations allowing three companies to buy up everything and collude together.

There's no competition to be had when every channel that actually shows cartoons is owned by the same fucking company.

Corus is garbage.
>>
>>92243877
I was under the impression that any bit of canadian involvement could count.
Or is it just a coincidence that nearly all the anime YTV showed was the anime dubbed by the Ocean Group in Vancouver, even ignoring Funimation's dub of Dragonball/Z/GT for Ocean Group/Blue Waters's dubs.

EEnE is the only good cartoon to come out of canada despite its somewhat disliked animation style.
You are either canadian and/or deluding yourself if you think anything else made over there is anything better than "I have literally no idea what this crap is, but I'm stuck in a place where I can't change the channel so I might as well try to swallow this garbage"-tier show

If I remember, Nelvana was brought on to rewrite the show because the French writers were being naughty (of course). That's probably why in season 2, they took it from the French and dumped it onto the Chinese and Taiwanese.

But regardless, it is a Canadian coproduction, but I wouldn't call it "good", seeing as they made the unfortunate decision to make Diddy Kong sing.
