I've read from several sources (mostly other comic book people) about Kirby's and Ditko's actual input in the stories and how Stan Lee was pretty much just an editor but still put his name above everyone else's.
And if I have to decide if I believe people like Kirby and Ditko themselves and Alan Moore or somebody like Stan Lee. I know who I pick.

He wrote the dialogue from the artwork and notes from Kirby and Ditko. That might be above simply editing, but it's not "real" writing, specially since it's the stuff that has aged worse in those comics. It's obvious Ditko and Kirby did all the heavy work. Just look at their work without each other.

If it weren't for Stan Lee nobody would even give a shit about Marvel today. He was a writer, a marketer, and an editor. He did more than most writers do their entire careers.

He invented the bullpen model for fans writing comic book creators, he invited the reader into the experience, and he successfully marketed himself and Marvel as a brand that resonated with young readers in the 60's.

I know it's edgy and in fashion to say that the man stole from Jack Kirby and didn't deserve his success but show some fucking respect. He made Marvel what it is.

I won't deny any of this, I'm just talking about his limited creative input into the comics themselves. It's obvious he was a smart businessman and editor, but my issues with him is that he used all his talent to pump himself up and because of this he gets a lot of undeserved credit.
But he wasn't a hacky, scummy piece of shit like Bob Kane, that's for sure.

I will be sad
The dude is old and has made many mistakes but he is an essential part of a medium that I love and I believe he is at a point in his life where he doesn't give a damn about company wars or that shit he just looks back at something he considers to be like his child. Something that he can hold onto and say he helped make. He helped create the bad too, like any parent. Maybe he isn't the most important, and maybe he did some awful things, but I wont hate him forever because of it.

I like Stan's silver-age dialogue, quite a bit.
He even gets a laugh out of me from time to time.
Moore, Johns, Morrison and such are all footnotes compared to the Kirby/Ditko/Lee crowd.
