WOW NICE SPOILERS DUDE
>>

You can't really tell what's even happening in the OP for those who haven't seen Logan yet...
>>
>>92196707
I did a little

All that talk about Oscars noms for a movie that was barely any better than the comic book movies we usually get really hurt
>>

I was damn close to, honestly.
>>
>>92196756

nah because logan and company was partly responsible for the deaths of an innocent family, obviously Dr. Rice and company did the actual killing

i can't sympathize with characters anymore when they do something so morally irresponsible

No. Honestly no. It was touching, but not enough for me to cry. I'm not cold hearted though.

I have a question, which is a major plot hole and makes what happens at the end make no sense:
How the hell does a freaking piece of wood pierce through an adamantium skeleton...?

No, i didn't, i felt a little sad, but then girl near me started crying like a fountain and i started laughing, mostly because i find ridicolous the idea that a movie can make someone cry.

wasn't the whole reason Logan was sick was because the adamantium was making him sicker and sicker so presumably the metal was probably eroding inside him and its composition was weakening so a a big ass branch can break it

I tried to stop myself from crying and just ended up doing those weird full body shudder-sob things. Then I actually started crying.
And then the cinema lights came on and I was trying to wipe my face with my hoodie and the guy behind me came up to me and asked if he could get his phone because he'd dropped it and I ended up yelling "JUST GO ON AND GET IT" a lot louder than I had intended.

The friends I was with started crying a lot too so I guess it wasn't as embarrassing as it could've been.

>>
I really liked the first two acts. When the other kids entered the picture, it lost it's spark.
>>
Didn't cry at that part. Charles however did make me cry.
>>
>>92196707

I didn't. Because Wolverine for me has always been a character who won't die. Who lives through the death of all his friends and family, and is consumed with rage and cynicism about that.

The concept of Wolverine dying is as retarded as the concept of Batman's parents being alive.
>>
>>92198260

The funeral for Charles was WAY more emotional for me and true to Logan. Him just being unable to handle the death of Chuck wrecked me.
>>
>>92198341
Go away Logan, you have no friends.
>>
>>92198341
seems like you just want to pigeonhole Logan as a character. him dying is nowhere near the same as Batman's parents being alive in terms of the essential components of a character's lore. logan was first and foremost a hothead loner who had to learn to get along with others, his longevity was just another facet of his character. him dying is a natural progression and can actually be an effective ending to an arc.

I just have serious trouble wrapping my head around the fact that Jacked Man won't be in any future Fox-men movies. I mean, he's been Wolverine for almost two decades. For many people his is the definitive version of the character. Recasting him is gonna be a hell of a task.
>>
>>92198606
Just say in Deadpool 2 that Cable found out about the Logan timeline and wants to undo it, but he somehow kidnaps Laura and lands her in the time period with McAvoy.
>>
>>92198606
meh he did a serviceable job but I never felt he was that great at the role, he was always too suave for it, the best interpretations of wolverine in the comics was always unhinged, troublesome and with a slight napoleon complex. also he was too tall.

tom hardy alone can probably do better.
>>
>>92196944
They had individual caretakers who would have would have been their primary socializers. All the caretakers were Mexican, but they would have had varying levels of English skills and accents, and preferences for how they spoke to the x23 subjects privately.

I was sad, but I didn't cry.

And the more I thought about the movie the angrier I got.

Can't remember where I read it but somebody said this movie is basically Children of Men set in the X-Men universe and tries to hit every note Children of Men did, but does a worse job with every single one.

I think Mangold has too much of a hard-on for suffering. I liked The Wolverine, as cringe-tier as the lizard lady and Silver Samurai literally draining Logan's healing factor out of him were, way more in hindsight.

Great trailer, though.

>>
>>92198728
nah its not petty, it's a major fumble in the script and characterization imo, you don't allow characters to do something so foolish and selfish that results in something so catastrophic and expect the audience to feel bad for them in the end

You and I had very similar experiences.
I didn't cry but I felt like I was being choked for the last five minutes of the film.
>>
>>92198749

As a creative choice it was just kind of pointless, it's one of the reason I say Mangold has a hard-on for suffering.

You could easily have had Clone Wolverine kill Charles and Transigen find them all without slaughtering an entire family. The family basically existed to give them a reason to stop for the night, fill screen time, and then die horribly. Their entire effect on the plot is to give Charles a bed to die in and hit Clone Wolverine with a truck.
>>
>>92198818
isn't it a common theme that when everyone doesn't listen to wolverine people die?

No but I was breathing heavy with watery eyes

The part that really got me was Charles talking to "Logan" while staying in the families house, seeing such a once proud and wise man in such a pitiful state for most the movie and then listening to him let out a decade of pain to the only person he has left, Jesus mang.
>>
>>92198818
nah choosing to have the family was to show the familial dynamics of Logan and company and let the characters breathe outside the confines of the impending doom and show their human side thereby adding dimensions to their characters and making them more relatable. my only problem was they should have picked a different way to do all this without Logan and company unabashedly endangering a family.
>>
>>92199107
what do you think a good way to have done that would be?
The gang goes out to eat and sit's next to a family and notices from a distance?
>>
>>92197691
>not getting her to watch the xmen movies in chronological order.

God you are such a shit brother
>>
>>92199186
I agree with this sentiment.
>>
>>92199164
yeah something like that and interspersed throughout the film like x-23 being infatuated with a boy in a gas station, the gang having to hole up with a mutant family for an hour or so, etc.
>>
>>92198752

A man who used to be a hero trying to make a difference in the world (Theo's activism, Logan's snikting) has descended into alcoholism and apathy following a personal tragedy (Theo's son's death, Westchester), working a meaningless job and refusing to engage in the world, treating the decline (birth rate, mutants' existence) as inevitable and none of his business.

A woman shows up with a girl who is crucial to changing the world (Kee, X-23), begging for help and offering money; the hero reluctantly agrees to help in a limited capacity (getting a travel pass, driving them to the border) but must step up and take over when the woman dies. It's unclear whether or not the mission's goal even exists (Human Project, Eden) but they continue on. Innocent people who give him shelter and allow him to rediscover his humanity (My Cocaine, Black Farmer Guy) die at the hands of his pursuers, but their defiant last moments ("pull my finger," FARM EQUIPMENT OUT OF NOWHERE) give the hero and his charge time to escape.

Both loved ones from the past (Julian, Charles) are killed by their pursuers and buried in the woods, although at least Logan wasn't betrayed by a group he thought he could trust. Both heroes eventually defeat their alcoholism (Theo starts to take a swig of whiskey to calm his nerves while delivering Kee's baby, then uses it to sanitize his hands instead, Logan just...kind of stops drinking eventually), both heroes push themselves past their limits trying to save the girl, both heroes die redeemed after giving the girl fatherly advice (telling Kee how to soothe Dylan to stop the baby from crying, telling Laura not to be the weapon Transigen raised her to be).

Honestly I don't mean to rag on Logan that much, a lot of the emotional notes hit really well (Logan breaking down after burying Charles, Charles weeping as he remembers what happened in Westchester and says now he knows what it feels like to be Logan, etc), but it often felt like Sadness Porn.
>>
>>92199230
>x-23 being infatuated with a boy in a gas station
I thought they covered a dad moment when Logan had to stop her from killing someone with a harsh scolding.
he even apologized like a parent whose kid who had just knocked over a display area.

I'm not sure how they would intersperse those scenes and not be overdoing it while Xharles keeps telling logan that x23 is his kid
>>
>>92199107

You could do the same thing without a rage monster stabbing a child and that child's mother and father to death. Maybe kill one family member and burn down the house?

It just felt like too much. Instead of giving Logan a sense of hope--this is what you could have had, and what you might still be able to have, and even though your demons follow you and cause tragedy, not all is lost--it gave it a sense of doom: everyone you stop to help will die, and horribly. You are walking poison, everything you have ever thought about yourself is true.
>>
>>92199326
no it's not about a dad moment, if you remember x-23 was interested in the son which shows that shes already thinking about boys in that way or at the very least shes intrigued by stuff outside of cutting people up, charles also reminiscing about his school was another dimension outside of the x-23 is your daughter so you must protect her and im your old and senile friend so you must protect me too even though you're going through some painful shit emotionally and physically
>>
>>92199478
I think she was more interested in the iPod than the boy.
>>
>>92199478
>it's not about family moments
>it's about making the characters feel like they're not monsters
m8 that's a lot of text, I think I understand your point but I'm not sure
>>
>>92199565
my point is that it's not just about the dad and daughter dynamic which is part of the main conflict of the plot, my point is they should have interspersed moments where the characters were human and relatable and had genuine familial dynamics to make them feel real and multi dimensional which didn't have to do with the immediate danger of people chasing them

Mangold chose to do most of it through the family they met but it was a little contrived and yeah the whole endangering the family thing
