Tough luck there, kiddos. Heh, heh.
But don't sweat, for I have a comic that is even better than Sonic and will contain your most beloved Archie Sonic characters!
We are off to a good start.
Might as well give you guys a taste of my older, finer works that were meant to propel me into greatness. But as luck may have it, I had to smuggle bits of it into Archie Sonic before I could retrieve them once more.

It really is amazing how one man can ruin an entire comic line and then proceed to further bastardize its legacy by putting out deviantart tier shit.

Boy howdy, who'd want to read about a blue cultural icon when they can read this kind of nonse-I mean deep intrigue.

Archie Sonic readers got to read it anyway, as following the fiasko of "Lost Ones", Ken Penders shaped echidna civilization into a background for echidnafied versions of his characters.
It was an industry cancer - the longer it took before it went under the knife and chemo, the more devastating the result was for the Archie Sonic comic as a whole as Penders only wanted to retrieve his parasitical characters and concepts once he got the boot.

Yes. They're literally doing this entirely because they're afraid of the bad PR.

Disgusting. DC just needs to take over Archie and fire the management

Polite reminder Image is a creator-owned company that doesn't farm out IPs to freelancers.
The thing no one here wants to believe is that Archie is modestly successful selling its own titles through a mostly newsstand distribution model. They have a small staff and a cadre of creators willing to work for the lowest page rates in the industry just to be a part of their own nostalgia, more or less like starving mangaka. As much as Riverdale might be garbage, the CW is paying Archie to license it (not the other way around).
The Penders case (sloppiness in contractual matters leaving the company open to lawsuits) isn't anywhere near as unusual in the industry as it should be and unfortunately most of its improvements in practices are the result of pressure from creatives.
Sega's perspective is probably that they're a Japanese VG publisher whose success with the Sonic franchise ultimately doesn't depend on a foreign comic book constantly trying to add its own lore to their IP (and mismanaging the legal ramifications of such). The books come from a bygone time when video games depended strongly on print publications to make purchasers aware of product and retain interest.
