No one, aside from Scotsman, ever appeared twice until season five. It was an episodic show. Of course the characters wouldn't be developed.

To be clear, I personally do not believe that Ashi began as an underdeveloped character - she had a well-told origin story and started with clear motivations. Then she totally went off the deep end, managed to lose two decades' worth of brainwashing in like a week, somehow developed feelings of "caring" and "charity" independently, despite being raised specifically to not have those feelings. She somehow went from trying to kill the man who her mother spent 20 years teaching her was the embodiment of all evil, to trying to get in his pants.

Ashi could have been an excellent character; I don't have anything against the concept of Jack having a girlfriend. It's just that the series is moving so damn fast. With only ten episodes, I honestly believe that adding in a love interest was not a good decision. Time spent on Ashi might have been better spent elsewhere.

Korrasami was a fucking travesty. It basically came out of nowhere. And you have to understand what I mean by that.

You could say that Jashi came out of nowhere. After all, basically the entire romantic development took place over one episode. They went from acquaintances or friends to lovers in one episode. There was like one hint of romance when Jack got his clothes back and Ashi complemented him, but that was it. And that's pretty lackluster, in terms of romantic development. But during that one episode, there were clear sexual, romantic, affectionate themes. Very clear stuff, no bullshit.

But Korrasami had fucking NOTHING. Sure, there were a few shipping hints sprinkled throughout the season, but it was your typical shipbait, very vague and questionable. Stuff that could mean anything. And then Korra and Asami got together at the end of the last episode. That was it.

SJ might have thrown all the romance into one episode, but LoK didn't even do that much. Korra and Asami didn't have ANY romantic build up. You can call SJ hamfisted all you want, but at least it bothered to go through the motions.

Let's put it this way: What if SJ had had as little fucking romantic development as LoK? Well, imagine episode 8. Only there is no sword-poke-dick-joke. There is no awkward romantic tension. There is no handholding stuff, none of those cute moments. Ashi doesn't get bitten and Jack doesn't suck the poison out. Ashi doesn't get stripped naked by the worms, Jack doesn't react to her being naked. None of that "forced romance". And then they get covered in worms, shocked, pant, and EVERYBODY LOVES SOMEBODY SOMETIME.

That's what LoK did. It didn't even bother explaining that they were a couple, didn't even bother building it up. Just flipped a switch - "they are a couple now". Straight from "friends" to "couple". No in-between phase. No transition.

Korrasami was a fucking travesty. Worst romance I've ever seen.
