Yes, but as far as the Jedi Code itself goes there's nothing wrong with it. What went wrong with them was that they got complacent and forgot their purpose, especially with the war.

I'm not defending JJ blowing up the Not!Coruscant for shits and giggles here, it's just that there are very good continuity-friendly reasons why the NR hasn't made Coruscant its capital.

As for Luke, we know fuck all about what he was doing after Endor. But if you really think he'd go right back and rebuild the old Jedi Order right down in all its "glory", then you've missed the point Lucas was trying to make throughout the whole prequel era.

I hate a lot of the dark, gritty no hope of post Return of the Jedi EU stuff but I also hate Luke in TFA.

Three whole movies dedicated to showing the Jedi living in a literal Force-damned ivory tower kind of soured me on the idea of the Jedi coming back in all their 'glory', and I have a lot more respect for a Luke that recognized those failings (especially given he's the literal walking product of them) and worked to try and over come them.

Post RotJ era EU drug on for far too long. Half of what happened in there was wholly unnecessary. As contraversial as their execution was, the Yuuzhan Vong was the only real thing of any significance. The Jedi existed for millennia, and in that they managed to become overly involved with politics while also falling completely out of touch with the modern galaxy, living in a literal ivory tower (perhaps the most obvious visual metaphor in the PT, yet one constantly overlooked). The Jedi fell because its very scriptures, its core teachings forbade any attempts to properly process negative emotions, in favour of teaching children to simply suppress and ignore any of their darker inclinations. With those they could train practically from birth it was sufficient, but it all it took was one Anakin, one child just slightly too old for that training to fully stick and the whole damn Order unraveled. Even Yoda was starting to see the flaws in the Jedi's approach to the Dark Side before the Clone Wars came to a close.
The Jedi failed to defend the galaxy, failed to notice the Darkness rising at the core of the Republic and failed to uphold the Light. Trying to bring it back just resulted in a replay of almost the exact same fall, as a young Ben Solo found himself unable to make peace with his own Darkness and instead found inspiration in his grandfather and the words of a far off whispering presence.
The Republic died. The Empire that replaced it, died. The attempt to resurrect the Republic failed to provide any kind of strong government, and is now mortally wounded by the successor to the Empire. The Jedi failed, and died. The Sith succeeded beyond Darth Bane's wildest dreams, but they then too died

We've entered a brave new world of a post-Republic, post-Jedi, post-Sith, post-Imperial galaxy. I think its about damn time people stopped looking to the past for answers and tried creating something new

The ONLY possible reason for the Machete Order is someone who knows literally nothing about Star Wars. It goes to annoying lengths just to save the Vader twist.

However Vader being Luke's father is possibly the most famous moment in film history. Almost everyone knows about that, meaning the entire purpose of the Machete Order is lost.

I personally vouch for Release Order on your first watch through, but Chronological is valid, and that's how I always personally marathon.

Yeah it works, because the OT were great upon release and didn't need the PT to be enjoyed. But the same stands for the PT. Lucas constructed TPM as an introduction into this universe, so that the kids who hadn't seen the OT would be just as included as their parents.

When looking up thought-pieces and saga reviews online of people who watched chronological for the first time, there is an overwhelming response of praise to the prequels for introducing them to a grand world that they got to see crumble.

And you wont be jumping literally 50+ years between 3 and 7. The only workaround to this that I have seen, is to watch the OT twice, which is non-sensicle unless you plan on watching the movies over the course of literally months or years. Nobody wants to watch the same movie twice in one day, or even over the course of the same week or so.

I watched OT first btw, back when the only prequel out was TPM, but I still believe it would have been perfectly fine to watch the PT first.

With the exception of Vader (because EVERYONE knows the Vader reveal now), Lucas constructed the prequels to introduce fans to these characters as if they were brand new.

Everyone knows what Yoda is too. The scene in ESB whereLuke meets Yoda works just as effectively, if not moreso.

Dramatic irony is an effective storytelling too you know.

Side note: the prequels recreates the "Luke/Leia" twist, and its not only more effective than ROTJ, but creates a dramatic irony for the viewers when watching the OT that is just absolutely wonderful, especially when watching ANH/ESB in particular. It's so wonderful, it actually justifies the stupid twin thing, because lets face it, as it was in ROTJ, it was pretty forced and meh.

Yeah, it was way more effective in ROTS and actually has a better effect on the rest of the series.

ROTS and ROTJ are my favorite movies btw, not shitting on ROTJ at all. Revealing the twins twist at their birth makes it much better in fact, as the audience finally gets to see Luke and Leia embrace as siblings.

You mean on the Tantive IV? I suppose, but all of the brother-sisterly bonding between Luke and Leia in the three movies is much nicer with the dramatic irony (kiss withstanding)

ESPECIALLY the ESB moment with Leia on the Falcon. That part especially is 100% better when you knew beforehand.
