Alright animators. College students have been telling me they use Blender, Maya, and Flash to animate. But what is da real 2D animation software of choice?
>>92170162
a pencil and paper
You can't take any of those programs on the go.
But this one on the other hand....
>he doesn't use the Frankenstein technique
Can this be the animation thread?

Enlighten me
>>92170162
Which one of these is free?
>>92171312
Everyone but Animate CC is "free."I think.
>>92171312
nothing is free
only death and it costs you your life

Different programs have different strengths, wether it be line quality, frame organization and exporting, coloring, effects, etc. So you mix and match for the best results. Some programs also have certain features and plugins regarding puppet animation, limited 3d animation, and stuff like texture mapping so you can manipulate a single drawing without distorting it too much. It's better to have a swiss army knife of art programs than a single program that you fall short on from time to time.
Also Clip Studio Paint has a pretty robust animation program that they use for a lot of anime productions. Not that great for digital drawing but fantastic for cleanup and color and frankly the best alternative to photoshop if youre more focused on comics and animation.

I know Clip Studio Paint is choice for creating Manga and Comics. But I'll keep that in mind as well.
>>92171546
it's pretty pricey. I got it at a discount during a rebrand sale, but I'd say its about an equal investment to getting flash and photoshop
>>92170162
Maya is for 3d.
Blender is to work with Maya because Maya is pretty shit by itself.
Flash is mostly for canadian TV.
2D? What is that?
>>92171641
Is Paint Pro sufficient or does Ex have essential features that will be needed?
Also, is that actually the full price of the program, or is it one of those cloud subscription deals like with Photoshop these days? This thing seems pretty cheap compared to some other art software.

Krita has by far the best onion-skinning feature I've ever used. Once it gets proper keyframing and vector support (because lets be real, doing 100% frame by frame takes way too long for solo work), I'd expect to see a lot of people start using it. Until then, I'd say OpenToonz. If it's good enough for ghibli, it's good enough for me.
Blender is good for 3d stuff (so all your cg effects and what not) and compositing but it has so many features packed in that it's really hard to learn what exactly it is you should be using. It took me probably 4 or 5 years to become competent in blender, so it's not for the faint of heart, but it's by far the most powerful tool for graphics, animation, and rendering that I have ever used.
>>92170334
why not
>>92172473
How fast does krita open on your computer. Everytime i try to open it it takes forever
Maybe i just have a shit computer
>>92172547
About 4 seconds, but I'm using an SSD and Linux. I've heard krita's performance in winblows leaves a lot to be desired, although it's a lot better than it used to be (constant crashing, unusably slow)
>>92172547
I'm having some kind of problems with it too. It opens well enough, but the cursor doesn't show up on canvas and when I try to draw lines, they show up only after a delay. It's pretty much impossible to do anything when I can't see the cursor or the line I'm drawing.
...wait, nevermind. I googled for help just now and someone suggested to go to settings and disable OpenGL. It worked, and looks like I can finally try using this program after all.
>>92170162
I like TV Paint. Most intuitive software I've worked will. You can pick it up and learn it in a day, real basic interface, relatively cheap. It's basically digital paper.
>>92172547
>>92173066
Krita and TV Paint has to be added into the mix?
Damn there are a lot of choices.
>>92171883
I believe EX is the one that comes with the animation software. And yes, its full price, no cloud bullshit.
>crtl+f
>tvpaint [0 of 0]
Wow, i'm pissed.

Wait, typed it wrong. All is good.

I've been using Flash for years because I'm just used to its interface at this point. It's really easy to move frames around to get the timing and inbetweening right. But getting clean drawings is a nightmare and you can't draw and erase with the kind of sensitivity of digitizers in raster image software like Photoshop. if I could find something with a similar interface to Flash but draws normally instead of this vector piece of shit, that's all I'd ever need.

Toonboom is industry standard and like 20 bucks a month. I use macromedia flash mx.
>>92175616
Could OpenToonz possibly interest you? It's a bit unstable(really, backup your shit at least every 15-30 minutes or so. Having your file corrupted sucks ass), but it's pretty easy to get use to after playing around with it months ago.
ToonBoom Harmony for professionals
TVPaint for independents
Flash/Animate CC for cheapskates
>>92176719
>Flash/Animate CC for poor people.
FTFY
And I'll thank you for not making accusations.
>>92170162
does any anon have a mega link to a full version of some animation software?
>>92178725
You can find a MEGA link to a registered version of TV Paint Pro 10 on the Animation thread on /ic/ but it keeps failing to work when I run it. Maybe you'll have better luck
>>92179068
link to thread?
>>92171444
I did this on Clip Paint.
>>92170334
Cute stuff right there.
