i thought it was cute. a little obvious but that's par for the course with lots of genndy's stuff. i think the ending would've been a lot more effective if the rest of the episode were a little more subdued (it's like the writers literally blew their load) but i'll have to rewatch it. as for the romantic buildup before this, ehh. there were some mild cutesy lines between jack/ashi that could be interpreted in any way but i guess in retrospect it was pretty obvious it was building to this what with all the sexy ashi stuff that's been thrown in. as an in-universe thing it was somewhat ambiguous but whatever. at the very least, it's setting up for a major blowout when jack discovers some secret about ashi,
probably was baptized with aku's semen or something for the finale.

I hope what happens is something like this:

Jack has beaten Aku so many times now, it always takes him just a few minutes. In that one episode he joins the mob he beat Aku in like 20 seconds. Beating Aku for good could easily take just 5 minutes of an episode and the other 35 minutes to going back to the past and wrap up.

So the dust hasn't settled in the slightest, but I think it's safer to say now that the episode was a solid 5/10. Definitely the weakest in the season so far, probably intended as a breather, but definitely oversold

It's just that what they were going for this episode could have been done with a bit more...nuance. It's not that Jack getting some ass is a bad thing, it's just that it was written in such a cheesy, rushed romcom way that it broke the atmosphere that the first few episodes did such a great job building up. It feels like the show blew its load with Jack and now there's no more tension

Honestly Old Boy ending makes the most sense. Why the fuck else did they need to set this 50 years farther into the future? It has literally not been relevant for any part of the plot. They even rewound the clock on the Scott's man so he could fight in the final battle despite being old as fuck. They have had to include plot work arounds for the 50 year gap, so it has to be important at some point, and we only have 2 episodes for it to be relevant. Ashish is the only thing they have covered, so it's about her.

I'm not really seeing the point in some special miniseries event when it is just going to be 8 episodes of the same old shit we saw before with Jack wandering up to something, helping someone then wandering off again.....repeat then actually have some real resolution to the overall story in only the final two episodes.

I have to admit the awkward romance thing going on in this ep was a bit of a letdown, but I'm not really into awkward romances in general.

Really though, I can at least kind of get the comments about the romance been weird considering Jacks "age" as well, I mean, he certainly deserves some puss after all this time, it's just a little uncomfortable, especially since Ashi seems to know so little about interacting with people.

I've given up hope for this season. I mean, I'm still going to watch, but like, I know that the next 2 episodes aren't going to be able to wrap up the series in a non-disappointing way in 40 minutes or less. We had 10 episodes this season, and they chose to use one of them to only establish the relationship of Jack and Ashi.

Aku tears open a time portal, throws Ashi into the past and then closes it. He then opens another portal, throws Jack's sword in, and closes that portal as well.

Almost immediately Aku begins to convulse as he, along with reality itself, warps around Jack. A new time portal opens and Ashi yells for Jack to jump through before the future changes destroy him. Jack does so and lands back in Japan of his past.

There Jacks finds an older Ashi - and their son, who has defeated Aku of the past with Jacks's sword, which they have found. The samurai gods deem them worthy to keep their memories as long as they continue to fight evil.

Did they actually confirm this was the last season? Because, as far as I can tell, this entire season has been a cocktease (albeit an excellent one) to see if they can get more out of it before they wrap it up.
