It actually works given the fact that Amethyst is a defective Gem and it keeps her and Stephen's general shape pretty well.

But I'm dreading what happens when we see a Stephen/Pearl or Stephen/Lapis fusion.

A Steven-Pearl fusion would be very strong, but be a bumbling uncoordinated fool, as Pearl still doesn't understand what their relationship is supposed to be.

Rainbow Quart's weapon would have been just their sword and spear used together like a spartan, as Rose worked together with Pearl, but wanted her to live as her own independent person. Steven and Pearl's fusion would use something like this, as Pearl's trying to be as close as she can to Steven in a desperate attempt to regain any of what she lost of Rose, even it that makes her relationship with Steven less natural.
