I don't think of those kind of word choices as a sign of below-average intelligence, especially for someone Star's age.
Like you said, intelligence can be expressed in all kinds of ways, and Star just doesn't strike me as the sort to use that kind of language I pointed out.

And I realize that in my original post I totally conflated intelligence with a more serious, formal demeanor, which is a general problem that caused all kinds oc trouble. Actually, I've been thinking about it and I was wondering if they could hook up around mid-end Season3, and that would become the status-quo for Season 4.

The thing is, as things start to get rough on Mewni, Star will have to step up her game and actively be involved in both military and diplomatic actions across dimensions, as she thwarts enemies and solidifies alliances. Meanwhile Marco, who's always by her side, will grow in both competence and appearance as he helps her out in her campaigns. This would most certainly attract the attention of other would-be princesses, who'd try to compete for his favor and, eventually, his hand.

I'm currently trying to figure out if she'd be the type to get jealous. If Nefcy's planning on going through all of a teenage girl's emotional states, jealousy (and denial of it) would be a natural step at some point in the future.

So, question not-/sveg/. Who friendzoned who first? Did Star inadvertently friendzone during the aftermath of the Blood moon ball, thus making Marco not look at Star as a viable romantic partner?

Now lets look at the lyrics of "Just Friends". its a really apt song for Star and Marco's "situation". The song is sung in a duet format representing Marco and Star. Lets look at this lyric in particular.

Star, having no idea (clue) about Marco's budding interest, tells him that she needs a friend not a hero thus hurting Marco, he then moves on to someone else.

From that point on, Star and Marco were "just friends".

Marco had a small spark of interest that he might not have consciously felt, but the line that actually spurred Marco to act was "The moon of lovers". This is the timeline I generally accept. Marco's response when Star asked how she looked especially. He not only says she looks amazing with a stunned look on his face, he has to pause to find the word. Something clicked for him in that moment. Later when he was sulking, he was doing it in Star's room. Then the crusty sea captain painting's words about the moon of lovers is what makes him go to the ball after Star. He was feeling something there, and she shuts him down after they got back, probably unintentionally, but it left so little time that no serious feelings developed

But you know what's just as interesting as the lyrics posted to Just Friends?

The actual song at the end of Just Friends is Too Little Too Late (the same song Tom sings too). These songs are ALL made for the show, and the lyrics definitely matter.

The last lines of the song that WE hear at the concert are

then Star walks out

but the ACTUAL last lyrics of the song are "and now it's too little too late"

I think it'd be a bit hamfisted, and we already know from the book that those Razor Cranes can go between dimensions, so presumably that's not magic dependent (although Glossaryck says the scissors are the only way to travel between dimensions, so dunno about that).

I think that "magic being drained from universe" will be a big plot point but I don't think it'll actually end up going to the "STAR AND MARCO WILL BE SEPARATED FOREVER" route, rather "magic being drained from the universe will wreck Mewni and the other kingdoms/dimensions" which is still plenty large enough in scope without being forced

It's certainly a possibility, but I imagine that'd be rather too harsh an ending for the show that ultimately has a positive atmosphere and story. One of the big detracting reasons against such an ending, in my mind, is the notion of Star's development as an individual being key to the show. The potential ending you described takes away pretty much all of the positive elements of Star's final choice, a negative decision is trust upon her and, whilst that could be both interesting a relevant to the story, it still takes away from that positive element that will likely accompany Star's eventual development in coming seasons.

I can definitely see Star having to make a major choice in the end, but it will likely be a full-blown choice over an unfortunate reality thrust upon her so that her choice is both negative and made for her already.

Considering it's only become an issue after the events of season 1's finale, I think it's pretty clear the two events are interconnected. That and, from what we saw in Crystal Clear, the magic draining effect mentioned by Rhombulus looks similar to the cleaved wand's green design and would tie in with some form of grand scheme that Toffee is still in need of, given he could have just procured the wand in the season 1 finale. He clearly had a greater goal in mind than just possessing the wand, though we obviously don't have a full understanding of the situation as of yet, it just stands to reason that the two are connected from a narrative stand point.

This type of ending is a common anime trope for shows like this. Boy meets magical girl, love happens, they have to part at the final ep/chapter, last 5 second/2 page is a time skip and a tease of them reuniting. Nefcy loves her anime tropes.

There's multiple reasons I could see Toffee wishing for the magic draining effect to be in place, hence why I'm pretty confident it is part of his plan. As you suggested it could be a means of weakening all magical opposition outside of himself and his now ingrained wand. Or it could be a way of freeing the high magic commission's prisoners, one of them being Eclipsa who likely has some form of connection to Toffee, even if it isn't a personal one.
