Well I don't find this that bad and I actually liked South Park's anime references and that shit - what's annoying is that they make the same mistake as all those people who never played that game or don't know how it functions - the pokemon don't appear on a very specific 3D location, there are just coordinates that determine the location so you can see them everywhere as long as you're in a ~30 meter radius. It sounds like nitpicking but these jokes feel kinda stupid when you're aware of that.

I honestly liked it for a rather long time. Then seasons were more mixed, had a bunch of shit episodes but a few I considered as fucking awesome so I kept watching it. Its last 3(?) or 5 seasons or something were shit though. I liked maybe two or four episodes and that's it. It also has lost the weird-satirical suburban flair the first seasons had and a shitton of characters I loved are gone or irrelevant.

That's literally all you needed for this joke. This should have just been an opening scene to segway to the actual topic, not the entire premise.

The parts with dancing on Frank Grime's grave and giving the phone to Maggie to see everything in the room were also decent jokes, but the rest was unneeded and ruined what could have been a decent setup for the main plot of the episode.

I think one of the things new Simpsons always sucked at was the subplot. The episodes either don't have a subplot, it fells open ended or it ends way too soon in the middle of the episode whereas the main plot is often something too long for the episode or a one trick pony that doesn't work for 20 minutes. I guess this episode is one of the latter.
