It's called appropriation. /pol/, or some other weird far-right group, takes a media icon (can be virtually anything), and purposely spams it into the ground so that no one can use it without immediately being associated with said groups.

Be it pepe, mickey mouse, or even the fucking ok hand gesture, it matters not when your primary motivator in life is to ruin everything for everyone else.

Now you're being ridiculous. Neither should be accepted, and communists are still a minority. On the other hand, the raise of the alt-right is a reality fuelled by the discontent of many disfranchised by an increasingly globalized world and who refuse to adapt to it. With Brexit in the UK, Trump in the US and both far-right candidates emerging in France and the Netherlands, we have witnessed how this disfranchisement translates into radical politics, arising most of the time from a lack of a grounded cultural background and education.

Finland is forming more and more like the Chinese pirate-product industry of the meme world.
They are really good at taking popular memes, making cheap low-quality copies of them and then flooding the meme markets with them due to the fast want memefacturing and low production costs.
Regular domestic high quality memes just can't compete.

They consider that improper implementation. Which it was, but the concept kind of insures that it's impossible to implement properly. Communism requires dismantling the establishment and setting up a new and extremely restrictive one, which obviously goes hand in hand with a psycho seizing power.

Socialism, which uses communistic ideals in a more manageable manner without dismantling anything, has been used to great effect by many of the best countries in the world.

Well, there is a bit of difference in believing that in an ideal world, Communism would be the way to go, and actually thinking it should be attempted at the current stage (Which frankly is a terrible idea).

That being said, there is a fair amount of irony in blaming death on Communism, if you consider that you'd be hard pressed to find a country that "attempted communism" and wasn't historically shitty to begin with. Like they could have implemented anything to replace the Tzar with, or kept the Tzardom in, and it would have been just as fucked up due to where Russia was at the time culturally and economically, and this goes for most communist countries.
Hell, most "Communist" countries specifically go for Communism because they're in such a shitty place to begin with that they're willing to follow anyone who preaches equality and fairness even if he's just force feeding them bullshit.

Also, calling bullshit on the entire concept because a country or a group of countries fucks it up to such a massive degree that it's a true spectacle to watch, would also disqualify Democracy, as you could just point to shit like the French Revolution which managed to fuck Democracy up so much that they straight up worshipped Napoleon for his great leadership after he wiped away the pathetic mess that was left in the Revolution's aftermath.

Again, it's not something that should be done with where humanity is, and probably there will never be a time where we can go full Starfleet and do anything close to it, but it's neat the same way Utopia was when Thomas Moore wrote it in Henry the VIII's court. Utterly unachievable, but neat.

/pol/ is not the busiest board on 4chan.

Nor is 4chan the most popular website.
4chan isn't even in the top 50 as far as I'm aware. A measure of pepe and his use on not even the most popular board of (what remains) what is called by the study itself, "a dark corner of the internet" seems to be a small sample to make such a sweeping generalization, considering a google image search could be just as effective and tell you that if you image search pepe, the first 10 results are apolitical. In point of fact I'd say the large majority of images of, just from a cursory glance, are apolitical.

I've not attachment to pepe beyond fond memories of the comic being very cool. So those are my biases. Pardon me for being a bit skeptical.

Do you have some sort of study or information as to what images of pepe are used the most, or posted the most, across the internet? http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/4chan.org
4chan's rocketed up the rankings in just the last few months for some reason, shockingly it's well on the way to reaching top 200 status by the end of this year, maybe even 150. Kind of wild to think about the influence it's had given how small it's historically been.

That's not what Populism is, or at least not every version of it.
Julius Caesar was a Populist (Well, Populares to be precise) for example.
I don't think anyone would accuse Julius Caesar of wanting to reduce the Government's power, considering it was following his example that the Roman Republic turned into the Roman Empire.

All Populism at its core is about, is doing things that benefit "The People".
Not all people, not everyone individually, and not necessarily the way they want it.

I provided a piece of evidence. You said it wasn't enough.

At this point, it is then YOUR onus to explain what "enough" is.

>Simple. Can you show me how much of pepe is used in a 'racist' or 'alt right symbol' on the internet entirely with a decent sample size, and on 4chan?
In the span of this thread?

No. What you're asking for would require months of research that I don't have available. At most, I can only provide a brief sample and anecdotes, the strongest of which come from the creator himself:

https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2016/09/its-not-easy-being-green/499892/

Additionally, a brief google search of "pepe", in which 30% of the images displayed were distinctly political in nature.

So I was at college, sitting at the common area, sitting with a fellow trump supporter Zachary Mayo, us two (and a few others) against a small multitude of race baiters and commies intent on "spreading love" and not hate. They claimed to be neither pro-trump nor pro-Hillary but to be for love. And some black people from the "love" crowd were crazy bringing up race, saying that they support my rights lol and that I have no business being there. They say that I was only sitting there cause I wanted to protest their love. Me and my fellow Trump supporter say that we were protesting and exercising our right to counter-protest.

One black woman, a fellow student, while not pro-Trump, was reasonable enough to come to us and ask why trump was good. My fellow defended trump on the basis of his contributions for minorities and how he hired the first woman to ever build a skyscraper.

They said there weren't either pro-trump or pro-Hillary, and one of me said I had the right to vote for whomever I want, and some of them questioned my motives for standing opposite them.

One of them said that we're here to protect minorities like you, stand up for you. To imply that trump hates minorities (this was a black dude that spoke to me), and another black dude was shutting us down so he could speak uninterrupted

It's amazing what these shillery supporters will make up in their head about TRUMP. I could go on and on about these vermin but I rest my case about the supremacy of our courageous position!

Communism is also sustainable. The USSR failed because during the 1970s the government slipped back towards totalitarianism under hardliners who were against reforms that would have kept their economy growing and innovating. In the 1950s and 1960s the reformers had tried to bring about Western-style living standards and when Gorbachev came to power in the 1980s he wanted to Westernize standards of living again.

The problem here is that communism's point isn't first world standards of living but to unfuck the standards of living of people in the 19th century. Marx never envisioned the kind of massive wealth created by capitalism could actually be successfully spread around/trickle down. The whole reason communism existed in the first place was Marx's assumption that capitalists would continually consolidate wealth and power and screw workers over, he never assumed that capitalism would be so wildly effective that it could actually afford a high standard of living even to the poorest citizens.

So capitalism outcompeted communism and communists wanted a capitalist standard of living but communism isn't designed to compete on that level, so it collapsed and then things sucked for the Russians since they no longer had even their communist social safety nets and were bad at capitalism. So then Putin got into power and BTFO'd the mistaken belief that a capitalist system would cause a society to become more democratic.

Define what you mean by sustainable. The system itself is very solid and I could say that capitalism isn't sustainable since in theory we could exhaust our resources and kill ourselves in the pursuit of ever greater wealth. The fall of the USSR was entirely because communism isn't designed to provide the kinds of living standards capitalism managed to, communism is about giving everyone a share of what exists so that when society is doing well everyone does well and when society does poorly everyone does poorly.

The reason it looks shitty compared to capitalism is because capitalism's growth resulted in third worlders being able to own cellphones and motorbikes and get vaccinated against deadly diseases so even if their lives are shit their lives aren't as shit as they could possibly be due to capitalism cheapening certain consumer goods that make life easier.

Communism doesn't have the same aim to compete so it doesn't innovate as well resulting in slower technological advancement less focused on maximizing results and minimizing costs. This in turn results in communists spending their resources in stupid ways.

>>
>>92131499
Marx was a proponent if internationalism. The nature of Jews at the time seemed to be to segregate themselves from society. Jews being apart and different was bad for the goals of communism to unite all workers. The fact that many Jews weren't actually workers but lenders was probably another reason to dislike them since that would make them overrepresented among the bourgeois class. Then the irony of course was that because Marx and other communists tended to be ex-Jews resulted in German nationalists calling communism a Jewish ideology.

I know where you're coming from, bro.

The thing is, 9 out of 10 people you see defining themselves as socialists don't want anything to do with almost all of Marxism-Leninism. It was a product of its time, and should be left there. Still, we reflexively defend that mess out of a rejection of capitalism, you know? We feel like we have to counter the propaganda somehow, because even The USSR and China did some things right, and propaganda tarnishes not just communism, but all of socialism.

Still, like us, you realize capitalism is crap and needs to be replaced. The majority of us socialists don't want the authoritarian mess of communism either. We want a humane, liberarian socialism, but we have to recognize the good bits in the very flawed communism.

Capitalism is not good, but at least, under capitalism, you have a chance. 0,01% chance, but it's still better than 0,00%. Should I mention holodomor? Cannibalism? Other pathologies? Do you think that under communism there was no racism, no class warfare? It's all bullshit.

The best system, would be a system based on quality, and on people, who actually WANT to govern, instead of being richer and richer. But it's an utopia. There is no help. No hope. There is only death
>>
>>92131643
You have nothing because everyone has nothing. That's the point. Communism socializes suffering and prosperity so when society is poorly run everything sucks balls for everyone.

Capitalism enforces a certain survival of the fittest, resulting in businesses finding ways to reduce costs so they can maximize profits.

Communism is sustainable, it's just not fun to actually live in a communist country since poor management of the economy can result in starvation.

>>92131646
The people tend to argue that most of /pol/ came here later. What they forget is that Obama became president and then often did questionable things regarding race relations at a time when race was becoming more important as society was becoming more diverse due to non-enforcement of laws.

>>
>>92131676
You don't oppose capitalism in itself anon, i guarantee if anything your enemy is corporatism.

Capitalism implies you can own a shop and sell goods to people for a living. Corporatism makes it so people can never open up a mom and pop shop. Only one company rules as they destroy anyone smaller trying to compete. It is inherently cancerous and stops capitalism from doing what it does best as people become family with a brand rather than what a quality product is, aka Apple.

>>92131742
They were always there. Never at one point was "/pol/" gone as a personality from 4chan.

It was there with or without obama.
>>
>>92131853
What the hell, why the hostility?

Its a simple fact. SOMEONE(or someones) HAS to distribute the wealth and property in a commie system no matter what. Thus you have someone/s with absolute control over wealth and property at all times thus the wealth and property is NOT equally given to the people, it is given on privilege, not right.
>>
>>92131798
I'm not a commie, I'm just saying that communism is generally successful in its goals of socializing property but fails when it comes to providing the same standard of living as capitalism since the point of capitalism is competition. Things sucked in the 1800s but as technology continued to be pushed forward by corporations in competition with one another living costs went down, wages went up and enough wealth was created that it didn't matter that the rich had most of it. Capitalism was able to succeed in spite of inequality because of the sheer amount of shit it creates. Communism fails at creating wealth but succeeds in distributing what exists equally. The problem then is when what wealth exists isn't that much it means everyone is equally poor. If communism could somehow become internally competitive and be able to advance technology at the same rate as capitalism then it would probably be the superior system, but because it creates an environment where internal competition is discouraged the advance of technology and creation of wealth is limited by government directive which results in a much slower rate of development overall.

>>
>>92131945
What the hell are you even arguing?

A higher power has to be in charge of the wealth and property or else it'd be impossible for it to be distributed.

Thats why it will never work, because people will take more no matter if they are in power or not because its basic human nature to take.

No higher authority? Lower class citizens steal and take more than they need as no one can stop them.

Have a higher authority? How do you keep them from abusing their authority?
>>
>>92132000
Because that means that communism is retarded.
What makes you think that higher class would have higher values?

MERITOCRACY, byatch
>>
>>92131969
Communism's goal isn't the creation of wealth, it's the socialization of wealth. PRC and the USSR were successful in this goal. When it turned out that capitalism's creation of wealth completely negated communism's socialization of wealth the theory on which socialism was based- which is that capitalism will only create a hellish world of billionaires and peasants- fell apart and communism ended up being the worse system by comparison.
>>
>>92132016
Who decides who deserves that position? Can you even find a Meritocracy in a pizza parlor, let alone the world?
>>
>>92132036
Goals are nice. But we've seen that the practice is different. USSR was so successful that it lost the territory and every former soviet republic joined the NATO. That's how successful USSR was. That's how former soviet-republics love USSR and miss it.

Give me a fucking break. I'm not saying that capitalism is good. But communism is something you don't really want. Unless you want to work like in XIX century capitalism, only instead for money, you will work for an idea, you will work for people! You will make a difference.

It's almost the same like when you are an intern and they tell you that it will give you an experience, instead of money

>>92132050
China employed meritocracy. Look, it's an utopian idea. Meritocracy will never happen. Just forget it. It's something I wish, but it will not happen, because people are greedy selfish cunts. We will never be ruled by people who are capable and want to rule fairly. Nope. It will never happen.

Yes, that's what WE want too! That's how the soviet system WAS supposed to work, and how it did at first. The people must be part of socialism, or else it fails. Marxism-Leninism was elitist, and kept people alienated, and that was an immense, incorrigible error.

I suppose it comes down to labels, but I think it is possible to come up with a libertarian socialism with participatory democracy. Maybe you disagree with the "socialism" bit only, but still we have common ground.
