At least that scene had substance and worked into the narrative of the movie well and was one of the few scenes in the movie I felt were genuinely good.

The actor who played Slipknot in Suicide Squad has gone through so much horrible shit that when he played that useless character, he was thinking of the death of his parents to power his performance. Not only did most of his scenes get cut but his character becomes a fucking nobody in the movie.

These actors, no matter how crappy their pasts have been, have to pull emotions from somewhere, but at the very least, the performances they bring need to be used well.

The original "Guardians of the Galaxy" comic back in the 70s didn't involve any of the modern characters (Star-Lord, Drax, Groot, etc). Instead it was set in the far future (the year 3000) and the Guardians of the Galaxy were Starhawk (Stallone's character), Yondu, and the rest of those characters in that post-credit scene.
