Guess it's the whole setting thing. RWBY feels like some sort of western Soul Eater with diverse designs added with bunch of high-tech weapons. It's bond to get people interested just for that.

My opinion: Weiss was in the wrong. She really NEEDED to be grounded and that for quite a while. The whole show she has been bitch to most people the moment she first meet them and quite arrogant on her title and stuff like that. Using her powers on that event was an accident, but she voluntarily treated people like shit and shouted, not to mention how she acted with that woman. She is spoiled and was about time she needed to reflect on her own actions, which she didn't.

Jacques was also wrong. The way he treated her after that didn't help either. Weiss is doomed to keep repeating the same mistakes now. She needed to be grounded, to be taught, not to be locked in a room for undetermined time.

I fault the writers in this case. We barely got any developement on the rest of her family. Weiss is spoiled, yet heroic? Jacques is greedy, yet he helps Ironwood and the army. Winter is stoic and hotheaded, yet she is Ironwood's second in command. Whitney apparently hates Weiss and Winter, for what reason?

We could get some more exposition. It's as if the show is made for Weiss always be in the right. At least in Winter's case it came to bite her against Qrow, yet in Weiss' case she learned nothing

The thing is, there's a set of circumstances that I think lead up to Whitley being the way he is with his sisters, that's not totally on their shoulders, I think it's all on Jacques.

Winter fought first to get out of that life, and encouraged Weiss to do the same, but it seems to really have stopped at Weiss.

Either she focused too much on getting herself out, or at the time Weiss was training to get herself out, Jacques focused onto Whitley to make him into the perfect child so he wouldnt try to leave.

Him not having a semblance, Jacques wouldnt allow that, so he makes Whitley believe that it's a lowly career. Him being so focused on doing whatever Jacques says, just as Jacques wants.

He even says to Weiss 'It's foolish to not do as what Father says'. (or something along those lines). And if that doesnt sound like a kid who is manipulated then Idk what does.

Whitley getting so much focus from Jacques, Weiss wouldnt be able to do anything about helping him see the error of his fathers ways, he's manipulated into thinking his fathers ways are the correct ways, that his sisters are in the total wrong, and that's why he doesnt like them.

All she did was foreshadow the relics that we were going to be told about anyways. Nothing was really accomplished by it. Sure we learned about Raven, but she's probably not even going to be plot significant for a while. We never saw and I highly doubt she ever worked part-time to get any money and we already know before the school all she did was sing for donation events.
Her biggest conquests were participating in stopping crime once in a while during season 2 and participating in a tournament in season 3. Also, as we saw from her trying to use the Schnee's credit card, I doubt Weiss has anything that is not gotten through them.

I highly doubt anyone can. He is for all we know, what fucked up the family. Weiss, Winter and Whitley are the way they are because of him and because he is probably the reason their mother is the way she is (implied from Whitley as someone that drinks a lot).
The only good thing anyone can think of him is that he helps Ironwood, but aside that there is little saving for his character.
Also, the writing in 4th season still felt bad. Plot got stale and Blake's background along with the ones of the White Fang got retconned in a worse way.
