Then one of the parents (usaully the mother for obvious reasons) ends up resenting the child. They end up emotionally abusing the spouse with curt comments but almost always they end up having a night of passion and having another child. This one was more wanted than the first but there's more of a toll and by the time both kids are in their teens the Parents relationship is hanging by a thread.

Jerry's only 2 faults is being a loser and being completely normal in a family that has Rick in it. The loser part has been shown to get better when Rick isn't around to save the day, forcing him to rely on himself which means he can improve there and the completely normal part isn't actually a flaw so much as just his personality. Also; I suppose his inability to accept Beth's chosen career counts.

Beth on the other hand is a destructive alcoholic when shit hits the fan, has extreme daddy issues to the point of choosing Rick over Jerry every time without fail and refuses to do something about her situation to make herself feel better; whether that's leaving Jerry or at least trying to make the best of the relationship.
