Makes me think a lot of the filler episodes were added in because they weren't expecting to be confirmed for so many seasons and they had to space out the plot-important episodes.

Even Dug Out and The Good Lars were pretty solid. these were really good episodes, steven is a madman. The way they set up his need to reconcile his relationship with his mother through discovering his "destiny" in the first episode, and having the big payoff four episodes later, was great writing.

I think the point of these episodes was to show that his weakness actually lies in his insecurity about his mother - he's caught between understanding her as a war criminal and this caring person who sacrificed herself so that he could exist. This notion of a "destiny" he's come up with is a transparent coping mechanism - a way to reconcile the tension by establishing his relationship with his mother as one of inheriting her mission.

That scene in Lion 4 where he's like "this is all just a bunch of Mom's garbage" is brilliant because it's made really obvious that he's using "garbage" as a metaphor for himself and the broader situation. I don't know, I'm just really glad they're digging into everything they set up in Storm in the Room.

I'm a little disappointed steven and connie didn't fuse and kick everyone's ass on the ship though. I wonder if Steven's shield can deflect Aquamarine's wand?

I think it's really cute that Lars's talent and hobby turns out to be baking, of all things.

Every episode he's in, I want him to just miraculously start being a better person, like outright confess his feelings to Sadie or something, but he stays in character instead and continues being a douche. But then continues to make little baby steps, like deciding to bring the cake to the party. And it's much more satisfying to see his slow growth. I really wanted to see him at least try to rescue Sadie, but when he chickened out instead, I thought "yeah, that makes sense" and I'm happy he got karma for it by being blasted to Homeworld and I'll hopefully get to see him regret the fuck out of his decision.

You'd think that it would be some kind of rescue mission with Connie, the CS', Peridot and Lapis going to Homeworld.

But no, it's just Steven and Lars and I think that's great. It actually kind of makes sense that a human who's sick of everything and just wants a normal life where he's liked would go on a magical trip with Steven. It also makes sense to bring a normal human in general with him since Steven needs to make a peaceful bridge with homeworld and earth somehow.

This was a great decision and I really hope it pays off. I also really hope this will mark a real redemption arc for Lars.

The way I figure it, Steven himself (and therefore the show) has never been all the way to Homeworld yet, if you think about it. The zoo wasn't Homeworld proper, it was a post floating in space as its own thing. Yet around here, we still infer a lot of things about Homeworld culture and technology just from what we've seen of Homeworld gems visiting Earth and shit. So I think Lapis doesn't NEED to go all the way to Homeworld to say "guys Homeworld is so fucking different they got crazy technology and shit." the way she did.

Though, it's open ended enough that she still could have gone all the way, I'm just not sure.
