I think it's really a problem in American culture that we have this puritan idea that if children merely know that sexuality is a normal thing that exists, that this will some how corrupt them and ruin their whole lives. So instead of treating sexuality as a normal part of humanity and just giving kids some parental guidance, we treat it like it's something evil and shameful and give them all complexes about it.

Add to that the fact that Americans don't seem to have a nuanced understanding of what is and is not pedophilia. It's like merely acknowledging that kids get curious and figure stuff out, or that people start to have these urges before they are 18 years old conveys something sinister. They don't separate the fact that children do have sexual thoughts from the fear that adults will prey upon those children. It's hard to explain.

I've always felt that whether or not something is offensive has more to do with the intent behind the word than the actual word itself, personally.
For instance, a lot of people will insist that the term "oriental" is offensive, yet I don't find it offensive because when people use it to refer to me they never use it in a pejorative sense, they're just typically older people who aren't aware that it isn't PC. For me to find a word offensive, you'd need to use it in an offensive context. That's just me though. I'm sure there are people with different histories with these terms, and will therefore respond to them differently.

Why the hell would you like Avatar as a nip? It's just a western take on the shonen genre and inferior in both storytelling and animation to a lot of existing (japanese) shows.

With its exaggeration and fluidness, Tiny Toons differs from your typical japanese animation. It's a prime example of slapstick humor and cartoon antics done right. You don't get this type of comedy in Avatar.

Avatar is really not that great. /co/ seems to ignore its flaws due to not knowing better or being blended by nostalgia. Avatar copies anime on a superficial level without understanding it, like a lot of weeb infested /co/ shows. Westaboos on the other hand learn from western cartoons and bring it into their animation.

As a fan of both, western and eastern animation I think we shouldn't seperate them this much, but try to combine elements of different genres and styles of animation that enhance the final product. Anime and cartoons suffer from different issues, but a collaboration could fix them. However, I don't believe this will be the case in near future, sadly, since japanese studies cater almost exclusively to hikkis and neets, while western studies will continue to outsource their crappy flash animations. Don't get me wrong, I think western cartoons improved a lot regarding storytelling over the years, but classic fbf animation died somewhere in the 00s. And this is just sad, because I always liked how dynamic and fluid western animation was. You can really see this decay of quality in long running shows like The Simpsons or Spongebob.
