Do you prefer the type of comic books you saw back in the day, or the newer type you get today?
>>
>>92089361
I basically cannot read any comic with older style art.
>>
DEPENDS ON THE ARTISTS
>>
>>92089361
depends on the artist
>>
Varies.
>>
>>92089361
Not an axiomatic thing. There have been great and shit artists all throughout the history of cartooning and comics.
>>
I miss the paper that you can still find in some vertigo trades. I fucking hate the glossy paper
>>
>>92089400
>>92089420
This, but I tend to hate modern computer-assisted inking/coloring. It all looks so samey and overdone... but it really does depend on the artist.
>>
>>92089361
These aren't comparable you dumb goddamn idiot
>>
>>92089392
Kill yourself.
>>
>>92089392
I'm the opposite of you, I find the old style to be more comfy most of the time, depends on the artist of course, but still.
>>
>>92089361
Newer, I've never been a fan of how simple the art style in older comics often was and how older printing techniques didn't allow for a larger colour variety and the same amount of details at have in modern art.
>>
>>92089465
I actually prefer the computer-assisted coloring, but only when paired with modern good artists. Seeing that kinda stuff done to Jack Kirby's art makes it look awful.
>>
>>92089361
Newer. More art styles+old art has a tendency to not shown movement very well at all and it's a serious problem in action scenes.
>>
>>92089479
Sorry if it triggers you, edgelord. The art style bothers me and I dislike it.
That doesn't make those comics bad or even that art style bad. I just personally dislike it and it is so jarring to me that I can't read it.
Suck my dick.

Replying to myself here but I feel I want to elaborate. I do find older styles to be more comfy, but what I like the most are the kind of artists of today who go for less realistic looking styles, like Chris Bachalo, JRJR or Greg Capullo.

If I'm pressed to decide between such sweeping generalizations then I guess I'd go older. For mainstream comics it's the 70's-80's that hit a sweet spot for me. Like DC has these incredible Jose Garcia Lopez guides for the house style but at the same time there's a ton of innovation in terms of composition and storytelling from everyone.

But if we're talking about alternative/independent comics then there's no better time than the present imo.
>>
>>92089626
That got published? That looks like fucking garbage. That's like worse than a 14 year old girls deviantart page
>>
>>92089361
How old is old to you?
>>
>>92089702
Hey shut up, that's Jack Kirby you're talking about here!
>>
>>92089626
what the fuck is that shit on the left?
>>
>>92089626
But OP's pic had two pieces of shitty art?

In the OPs pic I prefer the right. But I find that I USUALLY prefer current art to old stuff. It just depends on the artist. I love old Simonson art
>>
>>92090170
That's not by Simonson.

Aesthetics and techniques haven't changed much what has changed the most is coloring and I hate modern coloring, modern colorists think that airbrushing, blending and poop brown palettes are good coloring.
I fucking hate modern coloring.
>>
Art doesn't really bother me. A lot of it is very similar to today's art. The pencil work is there. It's just just not digitally colored to look "realistic."

I do have a hard time reading "Marvel Method" style books from the silver age more for the redundant dialogue and thought bubbles though.
>>
Depends on the artist, I feel like I can't really really make a blanket statement about pencils.

With colorists I do prefer the flatter styles than the digital gradient shit that makes everything look plastic. But individual talent matters a lot there too.
>>
>>92090769
t. pleb

There are a lot of shit digital colourists these days sure, but without computers we wouldn't have people like Wilson, Bellaire, Bretweiser and the like doing what they do now
>>
>>92089465

This, amazing line work is always paired with a generic coloring style, it's made me really appreciate color with a theme or style
>>
>>92089361
Old with the original pages. The digital versions of those older comics is putrid to look at.
>>
>>92089540
Look at this post, this is how you can tell if someone has shit taste.

>>92091288
that's why a lot of the best current artists do their own colouring now.
>>
It all looks like garbage to me. It's not even an uppity thing where I'm smug about it, I wish I could like superhero comics, but they're all ugly as sin.
>>
>>92091527
That's actually pretty good modern coloring.
>>
>>92092337
t. emotionally needy """"contrarian""""
>>
>>92089361
Older, in general. Especially Bronze Age stuff, that's the best, peak form of the art before Liefeld and imitators fucked it all up and then it got replaced with this digital stuff. I mean, sometimes the digital stuff is nice, but stuff from the late 70s and early 80s looks so much better in my opinion.
>>
>>92089361
Older. Better coloration and generally more effort put into it.
>>
>>92093082
I'm desperate for content I would like and that I can talk about with other people, but everyone's taste apparently directed the market in the polar opposite direction of my own. So, yes, it makes me sad.
>>
>>92093420
just start a thread about whatever comics you like, then
>>
I generally prefer older art. It comparison to today, artists back then put in a lot more effort and had more discipline.
>>
>>92092337
>ALL superhero comics look like garbage
reading every single superhero comic ever made must have been hard for you
>>
I use to hate the old style until I read the Legion of Superheroes archives, then the style kinda grew on me

i think it is
>>
>>92089361

Depends, good art is good art .I do miss the newspaper though.
>>
>>92094571
blasphemous
>>
>>92089361
Neither of these are particularly appealing to me.
It's all so bogged down with flashy effects and unnecessary exposition the actions themselves get lost in a jumbled sea of words and colors.
>>
>>92091527
Holy fuck that is some AWFUL paneling, and the bubbles without borders looks bad and amateur. I will praise the art though.
>>
I love Kevin Maguire's older stuff a lot more than his new stuff. The colorists they give him are some of the worst.
>>

left since it conveys realistic lighting even if it doesn't have realistic coloring
