'sup, Reddit.
>>
>>92088951
By posting that image you have cleared up my confusion. Thanks.
>>
>>92088951

Why do they even number one-shots anyway?
>>
They do #1 because they sell.
>>
>>92088951
>not giving the ongoing to Starlin
>>
I don't want to defend Marvel's renumbering, BUT it might work if the volume numbers were clearly denoted. And a one-shot should not have #1 on the cover at all. It should just say that it's a one-shot.

But you would still have to deal with the inherent problem that when a series starts over that often it kills the incentive to subscribe.
>>
>>92088992
>Buys "Daredevil" vol. 1 and vol. 2

Thank you, Marvel.

Are we gonna start posting the comments from Reddit too?
>>
>>92088951
worked for me. i didn't wana jump into something at issue #3xx
>>
>>92089037
I wish they'd forgo the numbering all together at this point, and just name it based off the arc like trades do.
>>
>>92088980
It's inconsistent.
>>
>>92089067
You realize that you're reading the same story regardless? Whether it says #376 or #3 doesn't matter, it only confuses documentation

Senpai, that image literally comes from Reddit.
>>

Then it's simply counter intuitive, which is a legitimate complaint either way.

Sorry, forgot to link your (OP) post as well.

Will the one shot even be collected in any trade?
>>
>>92088992
The #1 on on the one shot is not because it's the first issue, it's because Marvel is #1. Hence it's arranged to say "#1 Marvel".

how #376-#398 more counter-intuitive than #1-12 then #1-6 then the annual then #1-6 again?

Is intern the new word for shill? I can't keep up with shitposting lingo kids use these days
>>
>>92089335
we're all anon regardless of whether we're being paid to be here

unless we're a tripfag
>>
>>92089228
Because Amazing Spider-Man Vol 2 #1 is a lot easier to recognize than #26. People like you and I are just used to it by now, but comics are, in my opinion, one of the hardest mediums to get into because of stupid shit like Vol 3 (2010) #312.
>>
>>92089381
Marvel intern is /co/'s particular colloquialism for shill
>>
>>92089381
Intern = shill = anyone posting something I don't like
>>
>>92089305
What the fuck are you talking about with interns?

All people were doing is telling you this is basically just a thread ripped directly off of reddit. That's the critique.
>>
>>92088951
lmfao Marvel fucking sucks
>>
>>92089404
>>92089402
>>92089381
No, unfortunately the intern doesn't even get paid.
He "works" exclusively for Marvel.

But he does fill the same role as the shill. Boogieman, shitposter, etc.
>>
>>92089449
Is shill a new term for you guys? People tend to shill for free, its part of the insult.
>>
>>92089525
>People tend to shill for free
likely on /co/, unlikely on /v/
>>
>>92089525
>he doesn't know there are paid scientologist shills
>>
>>92089525
I don't think you know what the word shill means
>>
>>92089544
>>92089549
>>92089551
>He thinks most shills are paid
Half of it is just shitposting and falseflagging, come on.
>>
>>92089598
Those aren't shills, just useful idiots.
>>
>>92089608
Which most people call a "shill" and assume they're being paid to enjoy something instead of just being contrarian to piss off the majority.
>>
>>92089639
Most people are wrong.
;^)
>>
>>92089598
The whole premise of the term shill comes from the fact that you're being paid in some form to feign enthusiasm. If you aren't being paid then you're just a legitimate (if potentially stupid) fan.
>>
>>92088951
None of those are the same volume though, they are an ongoing, a mini-series, and a one-shot.

That still might be confusing to a new reader but it has nothing to do with renumbering.
>>
>>92089044
I remember seeing some graphic made by a website or something about the movie and "essential reading" and even they fucked up the volumes
>>
Anybody that actually believes people are willing fully getting paid to post propaganda for Marvel/DC or whatever will need to have extraordinary evidence.

Because that is a extraordinary claim.

People like to call others shills because it's easier to blame the boogieman then it is accepting other people have radically different ideas then them.
>>
>>92089825
Sounds like something someone working for CTR would say
>>
>>92089825
Provide proof that you aren't gay first.
>>
>>92088992
>BUT it might work if the volume numbers were clearly denoted
Fucking this. I had my Silver Surfers mixed up and I'm going through the pile like "Which #3 is this?"
>>
>>92089825
>that is a extraordinary claim.
Is it? Sounds like something a shill would contend.
>>
The OP image makes me happy as on not one cover is the name Bendis. Finally the Guardians are free from his filthy grubby hands.
>>
>>92089825
Not everyone is a shill but you have to be retarded to think that shills just don't exist
>>
>>92089978
I don't doubt that there are shills, but just because there are shills doesn't mean that everyone is a shill.

Some people just like the shit and they want to talk about how great they think it is. Ever since CTR shilled everyone is out for a witchhunt mentality against people that just want to talk about shit they like or have a opinion that goes against the general consensus narrative.
>>
>>92089939
>>92089864
See I know this is a joke, but this is legit how some people see it.

They don't understand that the onus is on the people condemning others for being a shill, not the other way around. It's much like the witch-hunt trails. Prove that you are innocent rather then prove that you are guilty.
>>
>>92089978
For the movies it's possible, maybe for the tv shows/cartoons but it's a stretch. Definitely not for the comic books. There's just not enough money in comics for a company like Marvel or DC to bother shilling for those.
>>
>>92090432
That's why Marvel has the intern, who does not get paid.
>>
>>92090450
Burden of proof lies on you to prove that marvel interns go on 4 chan to shill for Marvel.
>>
>>92090929
>burden of proof
This isn't a court of law, dude, but way to scurry behind muh Bill of Rights.
>>
>>92091007
The law is structured to make sense, your ideas aren't. You call people shills just because they have different views. That makes you one ignorant dumbass.
>>
>>92091142
>calling the intern a shill
Be nice to shills, they actually get paid.
>>
I feel like if getting paid by someone to shitpost on 4chan was a real thing, I'd do it in a heartbeat. Where are these job openings?
>>
>>92091218
I'd say check out big video game publishers, for jobs like "Social Media Marketing"

although what's more likely is that the job title is Marketing Associate or something and viral marketing like you would find on 4chan is only part of their responsibilities
>>
>>92089067
My first issue of Amazing Spider-Man was 301. I was 7? That was 20 years ago. It really didn't affect my appreciation of the medium. You're either in to comics or you're not.

To presume that the story is necessarily the same 20 years later shows ignorance of their production. Follow creators.
>>
>>92089399
This is funny because 2010 was the last time any book was published with a consecutive issue number that high.
>>
>>92089768
It's a definitive sign, don't read Captain Marvel.

Should have Series Title - Year - Writer - Volume - Issue. Side stories should have distinct secondary title and reset numbering. One-shots should be noted as being one-shots.

It's that fucking easy.
>>
>>92091558

>no artist

Pure trash, I don't care if it's common place. Not caring about who draws the book is like fucking or dating an ugly girl.

pure pleb.

>>
>>92088951
Comics are impossible for new readers, the only reason /co/ doesn't think so is their autism is blinding them.
>>
>>92093146
they're only impossible if you're a moron
>>
>>92093146
They're stories about men in capes made for children. If they somehow escape your grasp then I don't know what to tell you.
>>
>>92093368
I'm clearly talking about numbering and order and trying to follow canon.

>>92093279
You're an exceptional individual.
>>
#1 or #700 doesn't matter. The problem is that the industry has moved towards writing-for-trades: decompression and multi-issue storylines, arcs, and sagas.

Back when each issue was almost entirely self-contained, a new reader really could just jump in anywhere without feeling like they're missing something. Nowadays, you *can* read comics with decent understanding at the start of an arc, but if you really want to understand all the backstories, et al that the editors/writers are working off of, you need to read Series Y Run X, which requires Series Z Run W and Series A Run B for its full backstory, which require Series C Run D, Series H Run J, and so on and so on....

>>92093146
This is correct.
>>
>>92093984
the only story I can think of in recent memory that required reading multiple series by different writers to understand was the Kid Loki saga
>>
>>92089037

>Wants to get Volume 1 of any Marvel series from the 00s to now
>There are about 6 of them
>>
>>92089399
>Amazing Spider-Man Vol 2 #1 is a lot easier to recognize than #26

It really isn't. By the time ASM was on isue 400+ there was only ONE ASM #26. How many number ones has it had now? It's had 2 since SpOck finished!.
Also, you wouldn't/shouldn't get Vol3 #312 because if you just let the number increase you only ever have one volume.
>>
>>92089399
if only the volume number was clearly labeled on both individual issues and trade paperbacks
>>
>>92089669

You'd know GOTG #133 or whatever was the ongoing just from having the highest number - if they didn't renumber.
>>
>>92088951
>there are people still reading this trash
>>
>>92094221
It was an exaggerated example. If it was like
>>92094257 but it numbered each arc or a set of arcs as a new volume it'd be much easier on a consumer level.
>>
>>92091558

Would that still differentiate the first 2 Squirrel Girl volumes? Same year? (Not 100% certain). Same writer, don't know if they called the second one volume 2 - they don't always.
>>
>>92094436
If it's the same story then it would be volume two. Otherwise a differentiated title would probably be the best answer.
>>
>>92088987
This.
>>
>>92095997
Honestly they don't really anymore. Can get the same bump from a famous artist doing a variant these days.
>>
>>92096028
>Can get the same bump from a famous artist doing a variant these days.
Nah. casuals who can't name a single artist will still latch onto a #1
>>
>>92088951
It is confusing
