Most stores (ones I've been to) have between 20-30 free floppies available, albeit a limited amount. I've been to some where you take one of any that you're interested in. Some stores, like my current LCS, sort of view it as an annoyance and limit the number of free titles you can take (up to four) while other stores try to make it their biggest biz day of the year with big blowout sales and deals. Just ring up your preferred LCS and see what they're offering.

I'm a weekly reader and I have avoided it the last couple years. It just isn't worth the rat race when you can read most of the big publishers' free books online on ComiXology from the comfort of your couch without waiting in line with the dregs of humanity.

Various publishers put out special issues specifically for FCBD. A few of them are unique content specifically for the event, but many are effectively first issues or other reprints meant as teasers. Some places put their over stock on discount but I have never seen them put it with FCBD titles. The FCBD titles are 10-25 cents for the store, a lot less loss than a regular title.

a specific list of books will be free. Most have a limit, or charge for above that or you have to buy something in the store to break the limit. Most stores also have sales cause this is their busiest day of the year. The nice thing is that there are usually artists, authors and other people that have booths sometimes.

Last year a local band gave out a whole trade for free, which came with their album. They had a bunch of artists translate their songs into comic stories and just gave out the whole thing. It's pretty cool.

It's the comics equivalent of free samples. Comics made specifically for it. Some previews of upcoming events. Others short stories to give readers an idea of what the ongoing comic is like.

Only 20? wow. My store is Acme Comics in Greensboro, NC. Normally I make fun of the owner and staff for being fedora wearing faggots but I have to give them crdeit. they have turned FCBD into an EVENT. Tomorrow we will have to get there around 730-8 am and stand in line till 10 to get in the middle of a very very very long line. Probably averaging 2000 people at these things each year. IDK what their supplies are limited to but I alwasy get a fat bag of free comics...maybe all that companies are offering. at least 1000 people get these free bags plus theres cosplayers everywhere...including tiny little college girls in spandex...very sexy...some pro artists will do sketches with autographs. Sometimes theres a live band or a radio station will set up and broadcast. parkin gis a bitch and the long wait is a a mix of aggravation and entertainment.
if any Nc bros plan to be there i will be the guy with the hot blonde on my arm and a shit eating grin because shes half my age and will wake me up with a blowjob.

Retailers have to get all the Gold ones. Every store participating will have them. Silver they can pick and choose and get all, some or none.

Most stores limit how many free comics you can take so everyone can get some. If you want specific comics you may be out of luck. Next year prepare in advance, go in your LCS and talk to them and it shouldn't be a problem. Not a week in advance, two months in advance.

2000AD and half price 40k models are the only reason I even bother with FCBD.

Local comic book shop charges for their free comics. Surely this shouldn't be allowed but it at least stops them all going in the first hour.

Got back about 8 hours ago, hit up 5 shops. I got about 25~ out of the 40 or so. Only one I missed that I wanted was Grimm Fairy Tales but I guess I can't complain. One store had a few that weren't listed on the FCBD website, so I got the first issue of X-Men, Giant Size X-Men and Deadpool.

I just got back. LCS had all the free issues, with a limit of 5 per person. It was packed. Was worried about not finding Street Fighter but I was able to get the freebies I wanted. Picked up some old Aliens issues that were on sale. Candy too of course.

I managed to get out alive with the Tick and Loud House comics.

Reading some of these comments is crazy, im from a small place and hardly anyone reads comics or cares/does anything related to nerd culture that isnt cosplay as anime characters so for FCBD i just walked in, took one of each, the store owner gave me all the weird free seag shit like the holocarda for secret empire and then i left, no line, only me and gf in the store

Got some free stuff, bought some stuff, and got out. I love Fanta's this year and I Hate Image is really spectacular. My store isn't really all that comics focused so I was surprised to see people there.

If I had seen the guy dressed as Count Dooku bin diving that would have been neat but I think he got his free comics and bolted.

Store I like thats 30 minutes away was doing 60% off trades and 50% off new comics and I can choose up to 10 free comics so I went there. Picked up PriestStroke trade since I've been reading it in storytimes and the Cinema issue I was missing for $10.00 and some change, pretty nice.

This is my first FCBD and this has been my first year buying comics so I thought I would leave my thoughts on the atmosphere.

Store was pretty packed so it was kinda hard to get around at times, I spent more time there then I should have just because people blocked the walkways.
Most annoying part was the white trash and beaners bringing their little kids in to snatch up books and then leave without buying anything else. What is even the point of printing so many kids books I looked at that table and it was most depleted compared to the teen and big company books.
Nothing smelled bad but lots of fat men and obese women in the store doesn't help. I'm sorry honey but if I'm bumping into your hips/thighs because they stick out 4 inches from the rest of your body you need to lose some weight. Funny thing is they have boyfriends that are like sticks.

Biggest stack of untaken books were the Secret Empire ones, I even saw copies of free marvel books from last year on another table (i think it was civil war 2 but idk).
They had free copies of Batman 1 and Wonder Woman 1, Batman was preferred.

The store doesn't do cosplay like some of the other multi chain comic stores around here. The only girls there were the aforementioned obese ones and girls with colored hair or too many piercings.

Overall nice experience and I would go again, I could tell the owner didn't like people buying nothing and just grabbing free books. I wish I hadn't gotten books this Wednesday because all the ones I wanted were at the store for half off but thems the breaks.

The only shop in my town calls itsself a comic book store but they really cater more toward board games and card games. I went in and there was literally no one in there save one sad artist I didnt give a shit about because his art was terrible, and they had weird ladies from the local library there handing out ONE free comic. That's right. One. You could get two if you had your library card. They also had two shitty cosplayers who were dressed up as a fox or something and a masseuse there for massages. I went to SoCalComics. Was not prepared for the line. Figured I would get there at 10:30 (they open at 10:00) and there would be less of a line. Easily 500 people in line however, the line went through all of the vendor booths. Found a couple cool things.
They had food trucks, artists, etc.

Pretty cool. Will go back next year.

I got a great haul. Thanks to the weather they were handing out ten promotional comics instead of five, and they had eight longboxes full of old surplus comics that they were just giving away. Plus some crappy toys.

Everything was 20% off so I got a Power Girl Funko Pop.

Got 5 free comics and then 5 more for making a purchase.

After my purchase I got a ticket to where I could get something off a table with stuff valued from 1 to 5 tickets.

Got Iron Man Official Index to the Marvel Universe. Neat stuff even though I never cared for Iron Man. It has the synopsis of every one of his appearances/comics up until 2009. And War Machine stuff too.

It's catching up to Saga as one of the biggest Image sellers and the fan base is really getting behind it. /co/ thinks this is bad but it's what made most of the comics they like go. I like reading some of the Monstress letters pages just to see what people are sending it. Fuck, they printed an extra two pages cause someone sent in a design on how to make a stuffed many tailed cat. I was also going to buy Darkstalkers vs. SF #0 and the JL vs. PR issues that were already out by my store didn't have any of them.

Saw a bunch of qt cosplayers though. Took my picture with a few of them too.

Went to two comic books stores for the first time ever (other places were too far away or wasn't participating). One gave out gifts bags for those that showed early enough with random goodies that included mix of tradebacks and floppies. Had all the free comics for this year available too giving 10 each. Other one was a smaller store and just had the gold comics but everything was on sale (25% off all tradebacks etc). Overall great experience and bought stuff at both stores.

Not at all. They hadn’t run out of any issues, just that they didn’t order some of the titles. No 2000 AD, no D+Q, no Fantagraphics, no Tick. Fortunately, they did have Tex Patagonia, which I did pick up. I guess they just wanted to move as much issues as possible and not order anything that wouldn’t be picked up. Most people were getting Attack on Titan and Zelda, so I guess they know their clientele?

Ended up getting the Batman: Ego collection that came out earlier this year, the Darkseid War one-shot collection, vol. 1 of Ed Brubaker's Catwoman, Daredevil: Born Again, and a Catwoman bust.

I wanted to pick up Get Jiro, but they only had the prequel there.

Ad or not, I don't care. Due to life circumstances I couldn't get to my shops until 4pm. The first had no comics left, (at the mall so it's a popular spot), the seconds had a few, but I only grabbed Secret Empire from it, and the third I got a bit lucky and picked up several comics. I really wanted the Star Trek TNG comic though as I am in the process of collecting every story related thing that is Mirror Universe. I was really bummed out that I couldn't make it in time, but this helps a lot. Thank you anon.

My store had a 2-book limit so I got the Rick and Morty comic and that Hydra Captain America shit. What a fucking disappointment.

Picked this up for a buck less than cover, and grabbed paper girls too. Took my little brother to his first FCBD at our new shop, place was packed with kids and they checkout line was 10 deep when I checked out. Bretty good
